Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) untuk mendeskripsikan rendahnya kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas X SMA Kampus FKIP Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar sebelum menggunakan model pembelajaran learning cycle; (2) untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks berita dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran learning cycle. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 30 orang siswa, dan menggunakan desain penelitian one group pre-test-post-test, dan menggunakan metode pra-eksperimen dengan uji statistik uji perbedaan mean sampel berhubungan. Dari analisis data diperoleh nilai thitung = -17,16 ttabel =2,045 pada taraf signifikan 0,05. Dengan demikian Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran learning cycle baik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis berita siswa kelas X SMA Kampus FKIP Pematangsiantar.Kata Kunci: Learning Cycle, Menulis, Berita Abstract. This research was conducted at the FKIP Campus High School HKBP University Nommensen Pematangsiantar for four months namely September-December . This study aims: (1) to describe the low ability of writing news texts for class X students of FKIP Campus HKBP University Nommensen Pematangsiantar before using the learning cycle learning model; (2) to describe the improvement in the ability to write news texts using the learning cycle learning model. The sample of this study was 30 students, and used a one-group pre-test-post-test research design, and used a pre-experimental method with a statistical test to test the difference in sample mean. From the data analysis, the value of tcount = -17.16 ttable = 2.045 at the significant level of 0.05. Thus Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Then it can be concluded that the application of the learning cycle learning model is good for improving the ability to write news for class X students of SMA Pematangsiantar FKIP.
