Abstract

Stunting is a condition of malnutrition that is related to the inadequacy of nutrients in the past so that it is a chronic nutritional problem. Kuala Pesisir sub-district has a stunting prevalence in 2017, namely 39.2%. Purwodadi Village contributed the highest stunting cases, namely 66 under five with stunting. The research objective was to determine the effect of mother's knowledge and work on the behavior of family food independence as an effort to prevent stunting in toddlers in Purwodadi Village, Kuala Pesisir District, Nagan Raya Regency. This study used a cross-sectional design with a total population of 75 mothers who came from poor families and had children under five. The sample was taken using a total sampling technique of 75 mothers from poor families. The data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis using multiple linear regression tests. The results showed a relationship between knowledge and work of mothers on the behavior of family food independence as an effort to prevent stunting in children under five (P. Value <0.05). The results of multivariate analysis show that maternal knowledge has a stronger influence on the behavior of family food independence (Ex. B. 26, 32). The conclusion is that there is a very significant relationship between knowledge and work of mothers on the behavior of family food independence. Mother's knowledge gives a stronger influence on the behavior of family food independence as an effort to prevent stunting in toddlers. It is necessary to improve the education program for the community about the importance of family food independence in preventing stunting in children under five.
