Abstract

Muna Regency of Southeast Sulawesi has a number of caves and rock-shelter with different images are given on a wall or ceiling. Rock paintings show various human activities of the caves. A number of rock paintings on the walls of caves or rock-shelter imply experience and life expectancy (social life and livelihood) as well as their religious conceptions. In the livelihood aspect, it is shown by the picture of a boat motif. The picture could provide clues about the existence of a group of people who already have the capability of navigation. In general, a number of images show an activity of daily living, such as hunting and farming. By observing the overall shape, the boat image is not a war boats, but more directed to commercial boat or maybe a fishing boat. Livelihood activity is shown by the images of men on horses and on foot that are conducting activities in a place that is allegedly agricultural field, because it is characterized by patterns of tree crops. By looking at such motives, it can be interpreted as a feature of life that is more directed at socio-economic valuable interests.
