Abstract

Syariah Hotel Solo Surakarta, Indonesia 19 November 2016 PrefaceInternational Conference on Science and Applied Science (Engineering and Educational Science) 2016 (ICSAS 2016) was held at the Syariah Hotel Solo, Surakarta, Indonesia on 19 November 2016. The ICSAS 2016 conference is aimed to bring together scholars, leading researchers and experts from diverse backgrounds and applications areas in Science. Special emphasis is placed on promoting interaction between the science theoretical, experimental, and education sciences, engineering so that a high level exchange in new and emerging areas within Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, all areas of sciences and applied mathematics and sciences is achieved.in ICSAS 2016, there are five keynote speaker from three different countries, while participants come from five different countries and divided in five parallel sessions  All the paper that has been accepted for presentation in ICSAS 2016 are published online in Journal of Physics: Conference Series by IOP Publishing or in conference proceedings. The papers that do not qualify unacceptable in IOP publishing are published in conference proceedings International Journal of Science and Applied Science: Conference Series by Sebelas Maret University.It is an honour to present this volume of International Journal of Science and Applied Science: Conference Series and we deeply thank the authors for their enthusiastic and high-grade contribution. Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the quality of science textbooks for 7th grade of Junior High School in Bandung City. This research use content analysis method and data analysis with quantitative descriptive analysis technique. The compatibility analysis of subject matter description with basic competence use instrument which adopted from the instrument of BSNP and based on three indicators, (1) completeness, (2) broadness, and (3) deepness. Completeness based on the presentation of subject matter, broadness based on the presentation of concept, definition, procedure, or example which support to the subject matter, and deepness based on subject matter explanation. The samples are one electronic textbook (BSE), be code in A and two non-electronic textbooks (non-BSE), be code in B and C. The samples selected by purposive sampling technique. Analysis result shows that the completeness of book A, B, and C are 100%, 96,15%, and 96,15% consecutively. The broadness of book A, B, and C are 100%, 88,46%, and 84,62% consecutively. The deepness of book A, B, and C are 92,31%, 88,46%, and 73,08% consecutively. So, book A (BSE) have better quality than book B and C (non-BSE).

Abstract

The research aims to develop Problem Based Learning material teaching of Mathematics Physics and to know the effect on the cognitive capability of undergraduate students. The research uses development method of Borg and Gall. There are ten steps such as data collection, planning, product drafting, pretest, pretest revise 1, main test, main test revise 2, posttest, final revision, and dissemination and implementation. The data collection uses questionnaire and cognitive test which will support the qualitative data. The result shows that the criterion of developing problem-based learning teaching materials is 5 level category when 43.33% respondents rate 5 level category and the others give 4 level category. Furthermore, students which use the materials increased and the most of the students have acquired cognitive value exceeds the value of minimum completeness criteria.

Abstract

Applied Physics is used to comprehend any other technical engineering studies and as the foundation of technology innovation. As one of the curriculum components in helping the students to be competent in certain skills, it is used to develop intellectual, attitude, interest, skill and creativity. Physics is a course containing materials in form of fact, concept, principle and procedure. The method used in this research was literature studies and observation. The purpose of the research was to analyze whether the seven CTL principles are needed in Applied Physics or it can be simplified. The seven principle used in Indonesia are constructivism, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modelling, reflection and authentic assessment. Having conducting literature studies, especially for Applied Physics, inquiry can be applied along with questioning. Modelling is not the priority because Applied Physics does not need the real model, but only needs an example for Mining Engineering. Meanwhile, reflection has been accommodated in every learning step. Conclusively, constructivism, inquiry and questioning, learning community and authentic assessment are the steps needed during the learning of Applied Physics using CTL approach.

Abstract

Indonesian new Curriculum for senior high school students required student-centered learning. One of the curriculum implementation constraint was the difficulty of providing learning media. PhET simulations media is one of the options that can help implementation of new curriculum on learning. However, the use of this media in Indonesia still needs to be studied comprehensively. The learning was conducted on students of physics education Study Program in sebelas maret university in 2013. The sample consisted of 62 students that was taking quantum physics course. The method that was used in the research was descriptive qualitative.  The method that was used in learning was demonstration’s method that used PhET media and accompanied by a question and answer and groups discussion. The data was collected using multiple choice test and interview through email. We found that any students still did not understand about photoelectric effect concept. They were confused when asked about the thick material and cross section of the targets as related with the regardless of electrons in the photoelectric effect event. Other than that, the concept of the waves as a particle and its relation with the kinetic energy of the electrons was not understood by most students.

Abstract

Assessment is an important part of education. For educators, are collecting information about students learning and information about the learning process. For students, the assessment is the process of informing them about the progress of learning. Effective assessment process is responsive to the strengths, needs and clearly articulated student learning objectives. This research was aimed to know the effect of assessment form towards students ability in answering the problem correctly on kinematics and dynamics of motion. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data collecting method are assessment test and interview. Assessment test instrument are written test and animation form test. The question we use was taken "Force Concept Inventory" on kinematics and dynamics concepts. The sample are 36 student of 6th terms student of Physics Undergraduate Departement in Sebelas Maret University. The result shows that for kinematics concept, more students answer correctly for test presented in animation form but for dynamics concept conventional test is better.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the characteristics of learning obstacle contained in the concept of circumference and area of a triangle in SMP N 2 Limpung. Data about learning obstacle Obtained through analysis of the results of the students' answers to the test and learning processes within the material circumference and area of triangles. This study is a qualitative study using of didactical design research method. The research result in learning identified material of circumference and area of a triangle were didactical, ontogenic and epistemological obstacle. As for learning obstacle found are: (1) distinguishing concept image material high line, bisecting line, line weight and line axis; (2) determine the high line on the triangular side of the base is not horizontal; (3) Determine the triangle area an obtuse triangle; and (4) visualization of the students regarding the ability to determine the type of triangle and the position of the perpendicular line or field.

Abstract

The specific purpose of this research is: The implementation of the application of the learning tool with a form cognitive learning evaluation model based macros program via E-learning at High School grade X at july-december based on 2013 curriculum. The method used in this research followed the procedures is research and development by Borg and Gall [2]. In second year, population analysis has conducted at several universities in Semarang. The results of the research and application development of macro program-based cognitive evaluation model is effective which can be seen from (1) the student learning result is over KKM, (2) The student independency affects learning result positively, (3) the student learning a result by using macros program-based cognitive evaluation model is better than students class control. Based on the results above, the development of macros program-based cognitive evaluation model that have been tested have met quality standards according to Akker (1999). Large-scale testing includes operational phase of field testing and final product revision, i.e trials in the wider class that includes students in mathematics education major in several universities, they are the Universitas PGRI Semarang, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung and the Universitas Islam NegeriWalisongo Semarang. The positive responses is given by students at the Universitas PGRI Semarang, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung and the Universitas Islam NegeriWalisongo Semarang.

Abstract

This research was conducted to: examine the problem solving ability of students in mathematics education FKIP UNS, (2) develop problem-based learning model with metacognitive strategy, (3) examine the effectiveness of problem-based learning model with metacognitive strategy. Three methods were used in this research: descriptive quantitative, research and development (RnD), and experimental method. The development method used 4-D model which consists of four phases: define, design, develop, and dessimenete. Experimental method was conducted to examine the effectiveness of learning model developed. The population in this research is all students of mathematics education FKIP UNS, while the sample used is students who took the Basics Matematics course. The data collections were used in this research: test, validation sheet, and observation sheet. Descriptive quantitative analysis technique was used to analyze the instrument development. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used to describe the validators’ mark result for the learning instruments. Descriptive quantitative analysis was used to analyze the problem-solving ability test result that described by percentages. The efectiveness of model development was analyzed by T-test method. The results of this study showed that: (1) students’ problem solving ability of mathematics education FKIP UNS particularly in non-algoritmic problems is still not good, but in algoritmic problems is good enough, (2) in the development of  problem-based learning model with metacognitive strategy learning instruments, three instruments that qualify valid, practical, and effective there are:  Learning Plan, Students’ Activity Sheet, and  Students’ Teaching Material.
