The Dinamika Teknik Mesin: Jurnal Keilmuan dan Terapan Teknik Mesin is aimed to desiminating and sharing the scientific research results, simulations, and computation to reseachers, students, and practitioners around the world. It is a peer-reviewed academic journal which publishes originally research papers and simulation/computational articles in all aspect of Mechanical Engineering such as energy conversion, materials, design and production/ manufacturing. The Dinamika Teknik Mesin publishes in two issues per volume annually appearing in June and December. However, due to administrative constraints, then starting in January 2018, the Dinamika Teknik Mesin publishes the volume and issue in January and July.

Abstract

 Pack carburizing is one of the methods used to increase the carbon content in steel by using solid media. In this study, the addition of carbon elements was carried out using teak wood charcoal and cow bone powder, after that in quenching using cane molasses. Variations used for holding time are 2 hours, 4 hours, and 6 hours, variations in cane molasses content used 10%, 20%, 30%, and the percentage comparison between cow bone powder and teak wood charcoal is 50%:50%. The results of this study show that the pack carburizing resistance time factor is more influential on the mechanical properties and microstructure of low carbon steel. The highest hardness value is found at a holding time of 6 hours with quenching cane molasses 20% of 799.95 kg/cm2 and the lowest hardness value is found without treatment of 162.62 kg/cm2. For the highest impact toughness is found without treatment of 2.02 Joule/mm2 and the lowest impact toughness value is found at holding time of 6 hours with quenching cane molasses 20% of 1.127 Joule/mm2. For microstructures formed after treatment, martensite structures are formed due to rapid cooling.

Abstract

Waste oil has a high hydrogen content and can be used as renewable energy. The hydrocarbon chains in used oil can decompose and produce liquid fuel products through evaporation at a certain temperature. The purpose of this study was to obtain the characteristics of used oil waste liquid smoke using steam reforming with the addition of a KOH catalyst. The research was conducted by experiment, where the concentration of the solution used included 1.25; 1.66, and 2.5 Mol. The steam reforming process was carried out for 2 hours using a temperature variation of 250 and 300 oC. The steamer tube is connected to the condensing pipe in a separate unit to obtain liquid smoke products from a wide variety of applied solutions. Product analysis includes volume capacity and flame characteristics of each product variation obtained using the ImageJ application. The results showed that the role of KOH catalyst was able to increase the effectiveness of liquid smoke production from waste oil. The highest product volume was obtained at a concentration of 1.25 Mol of 115 ml. While the characteristics of the flame tend towards temperature and color dominance that is different for each product produced.

Abstract

Reducing fuel consumption and improving fuel quality in motorcycle engines are very important in order to make the exhaust gas emission from the engine becomes more environmentally friendly. In this study, a magnetic field is attached to the fuel line so that the fuel is affected by the magnetic field. The magnetic field is obtained from electromagnetic magnets and permanent magnets. Fuel consumption is tested on a motorcycle engine that it uses a carburetor system and on an engine that uses a fuel injection system. The exhaust emissions observed were CO and HC by using exhaust gas analyzer. The results showed that the use of a magnetic field mounted on the fuel line can reduce the fuel consumption of a motorcycle engine, using either a carburetor system or a fuel injection system by an average of 18%. The use of magnetic fields also shows a very good effect in reducing exhaust gas emissions from motorcycle engines. The length of the magnet attached to the fuel line, 80mm provides a reduction in exhaust gas emissions of CO by 80% - 90% and HC by 60% - 77%. The percentage reduction in exhause gas emission is better than the other length of magnets.

Abstract

Cellular lightweight concrete has an advantage in its specific gravity, with the presence of foam making it lighter. However, the presence of foam reduces its strength. Utilization of used clothing fibers is carried out to increase the flexural strength of cellular lightweight concrete and is useful for reducing environmental loads. Used clothing fibers are added to the cellular lightweight concrete in the amount of 0%; 0.3%; 0.6%; 0.9% and 1.2% of weight. Cellular lightweight concrete is also reinforced with steel wire mesh with a wire diameter of 0.5 mm with a side length of ¼ inch x ¼ inch.  With the addition of used clothing fibers increase the flexural strength and reduce the density of cellular lightweight concrete. The addition of steel wire mesh increases the flexural strength but increases the density of cellular lightweight concrete.

Abstract

In this study the ketinting machine was modified by adding an alternator. By adding alternators aimed at supplying the power needs of lights for lighting when fishermen operate at night. The ketinting machine is dikopel with pully on its long shaft, and the pully is connected with the alternator using a V-belt, so that when the ketinting machine is turned on the alternator will rotate supplying the light power and charging the battery. When you do not turn on the lights, the alternator will charge the battery only. The method used in this study is an experiment in the laboratory to determine the effect of engine modifications on battery charging time and fuel consumption. Modifications resulted in a change in engine dimensions from 353 x 374 x 346 mm to 346 x 514 x 413.23 mm. The time it takes to charge the battery is affected by the engine rotation. The larger the engine revs the smaller the time it takes to fill the battery to the full. At 1500 rpm the charging time is 16 Hours 12 minutes, the 2000 rpm spin is 11 Hours 2 minutes, and the 2500 rpm spin is 7 Hours 15 minutes.  Fuel consumption increased by 80-90 percent in liters/hour from before it was modified with after it was modified. Technically this modification of ketinting engines can help fishermen's operations at night but its feasibility economically needs further research

Abstract

The use of biodiesel fuel has a very high viscosity and density compared to diesel oil, this makes diesel engine performance less than optimal. With the addition of gasoline to biodiesel, it will reduce the viscosity and density of biodiesel and have a lower flash point. And also the fuel heating process aims to reduce the level of viscosity and density of the fuel so that it is the same as diesel oil. This study aims to know the spray characteristics of fuel B0 (100% diesel oil), B30 (30% biodiesel and 70% diesel oil) and B30G5 (95%B30 and 5% diesel oil) with temperature variations 60ºC, 80ºC, and 100ºC on injection pressure of 17 MPa. The results of the tests that have been carried out that the increase in temperature of the fuel and variations in injection pressure will affect the value of the spray tip penetration, and the spray area. The result of the spray characteristic test that produces a good value is B0 fuel (100% diesel) but the closest to the B0 fuel value is B30G5.

Abstract

This numerical work was carried out to investigate the flow field characteristics through Savonius hydeokinetic turbine with 2 smicircular blade-rounded leading edge. The effects of blade thickness, and freestream velocity were simulated using ANSYS FLUENT with k-w SST model. The results show that the structure of the flow changes with increasing turbine rotation. The coefficient of torque and power for thin blades is higher than for thicker turbine blades and its values increase with the increase in the freestream velocity.  The turbin wirh thin blade thickness better than with thick blade thickness

Abstract

Corn is one of the important crops in Indonesia, the amount of corn production is directly proportional to the waste produced while its utilization is still not optimal. The Latest innovation introduces a composite which is a mixture of two different materials consisting of a reinforcement and an adhesive. The lates innovation composite materials use natural fibers as reinforcement because the are abundant, light, economical and environmentally friendly. About 38% corn husk containing cellulose can be used as a composite reinforcement. Composite materials are widely developed in the board industry, especially to meet household needs such as tables, cupboard,and other furniture interior. Most household appliances use wood as raw materials, while the amount is still not sufficient for the increasing needs of the community. This study aims to find the best tensile strength in corn husk fiber composites and polyester matrix with volume fractions of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%. The research method used is a pure experiment starting from the corn husk soaking process, adding 5% NaOH, printing specimens, to testing the tensile strength with the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) HT-2402. The results showed that the highest tensile strength data was in the composition of the 4% volume fraction of 26.85 MPa, due to the matrix being able to bind the fiber as a whole so that it could provide maximum loading. All the results of the tensile strength test can be used as an alternative raw material to replace wood for the board industry because it is in accordance with the JISA5905-2003 industrial standard.

Abstract

The bumper is one part of the vehicle that has a very important role. In addition to functioning as aerodynamics and aesthetics to attract consumers, the bumper also functions as a damper and a buffer against impact (shock/impact force) in the event of an accident. Therefore, the material used as the bumper, especially the rear bumper, is often damaged, so a material that has good tensile strength and impact toughness is needed. In this research, the object of the research is the polyester matrix composite. The research aspect is more emphasized on the effect of using Musa acuminata stem fiber (MASF) as a reinforcement and filler of Carboxyl Terminated Butadiene Acrylonitryle (CTBN) on changes in tensile strength and impact toughness. The results of the study show. the addition of MASF volume fraction and CTBN filler increased the tensile strain, impact toughness, impact energy, but decreased the tensile strength of the polyester matrix composite material. The change in mechanical properties is due to the bonding of MASF with CTBN and polyester with CTBN, so that the impact toughness and ductility of the specimen increases, because CTBN is elastic.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to obtain result fromthe effect off  the influence of spindle rotation speedon the roughness of the workpiece using rugotest byknowing the different roughness treatmen of each rpmspecimens. This research uses an experimentalmethod, workpieces with the type of steel material  ST.37  made 10 specimens in the from of 2 workpieces. Each workpiece contains 5 specimens tobe analyzed using the rugotest tool at differentvariations of spindel rotation speed. Variations  ofspindle rotation speed are 693 rpm, 501 rpm, 252 rpm, 125 rpm, 63 rpm. Turned using the same tooland the same feeding speed on one variable. After theworkpiece is turned it is then analyzed to get theroughness value of the workpiece. Data analysis usingrugotest by knowing the standard value of roughnesson the rugotest. This study obtains data results thatshow the faster the spindle rotation on the lathe, thelower the workpiece roughness value on the rugotest.
