Abstract

Background: Platelets play a role in hemostasis which is the body's mechanisms to prevent and stop the bleeding. Platelets participate in the effort to close the wound, so that the body does not experience a loss of blood and protected from foreign cells. Examination of the platelet count is very important in the diagnosis of diseases, one of which is the diagnosis of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Examination of blood counts, especially platelets in clinical laboratories causes blood samples in use are not always the venous blood but could use capillary blood. Capillary blood samples are used primarily in pediatric patients, because the venous blood sampling is difficult, patient loads, and also shorten the time when taking blood. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a difference in counting the number of platelets using samples of blood veins and capillaries. Methods: Quantitative research with observational approach using a cross sectional study design in the 30 samples of student D3 Health Analyst STIKes To Nation Yogyakarta. Statistical methods in use are independent T test. Results: The research subjects were 30 samples of student D3 Health Analyst STIKes To Nation Yogyakarta. The results of the examination of venous blood platelet count and blood capillaries have different average values are 247 530 cells / ml of blood, for blood platelets veins and 184 270 cells / ml of blood for capillary blood platelets. Spearman correlation analysis Obtained results of the examination of venous blood platelet count and blood capillaries normal distribution (p> 0.05). 0.129 venous blood platelet counts, while the number of blood platelets kapilernya 0.089. Conclusion: There is a significant difference from the results of counting the number of blood platelets using veins and capillaries, where the use of capillary blood samples showed that lower platelet counts.

Abstract

Background: Obesity is one of the most epidemiological burden which is being a dangerous threat for global health. It also contributes for leading cause of hypercholesterolemia. Prevalence of stroke, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, and hypertension in Indonesia has reached out 23.7% in 2007. Rejosari sub-village, Kemadang village, Tanjungsari sub-district locate in coastal area which is fisher taking mostly part of the citizen's occupation. Hence they have tendency to intake sea products such as shrimps, squids, crabs, anchovies, and bivalves that contain amino acid required to growth and cell recovery nevertheless it also has much cholesterol contained which cause of total cholesterol level rising. The aims of this study to determine risk factors of hypercholesterolemia on obese pre-eldery population in Rejosari sub-village, Kemadang village, Tanjungsari sub-district, Gunung Kidul district, Yogyakarta. Method: This was an analytic observational study with cross sectional that conducted on February 2015 on obese pre-eldery population in Rejosari sub-village, Kemadang village, Tanjungsari sub-district, Gunung Kidul district, Yogyakarta. Data collected such age, sex, blood pressure, seafood intake frequencies, and total cholesterol. Data were analyzed by STATA version 12 software for windows with spearman correlation statistical test. Result: This study findings that 30 pre-elderly people came as respondents. Data performed the average value of age was 49 years old, systolic blood pressure was 142 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure was 87 mmHg, seafood intake frequencies was 3 times per week, and total cholesterol level was 241 mg/dl. Spearman correlation shown age (p value=0.0477), systolic blood pressure (p value=0.0012), diasolic blood pressure (p value= 0.0435) and seafood intake frequencies (p value= 0.0018) have stattistical correlation with hypercholesterolemia. Conclusion:Age, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and seafood intake frequencies are correlated with total cholesterol raising within blood.

It is hoped that the lecturer would deliver an effective and good learning process to his/her students so that the students would achieve better learning results. Therefore, the author is interested to conduct a study“The Comparison of Demonstrative Learning Method and Computer Assisted Learning on Blood Pressure Measurement Guna Bangsa Health College of Yogyakarta in 2012”. Objective: Measuring and comparing study result of the students knowledge, effectiveness and skills) after attending one of methods of learning of demonstrative and CAL on blood pressure measurement. Method:The research samples consist of 76 undergraduates of nursing science which are divided into two groups. This research uses experimental type control time series design which determines the level of the learning skill achieved on measuring the blood pressure, after the students followed demonstrative method of learning and computer assisted learning. The samples are randomized using kind of simple random sampling, which draws members of the population (lottery technique). The instruments used are multiple Choice Question, Checklist and Observation Sheets. The data acquired will be processed and compared using independent t test. Results: Statistically, significant differences on the results of Students attending methods of learning of demonstrative and CAL on blood pressure measurement.Comparison results of measuring the effectiveness of learning using those methods shows that computer assisted learning method resulting in higher mean than the demonstrative method. Conclusion: Demonstrative and Computer Assisted Learning Methods are effective learning methods. They could be used to improve the students’knowledge and skills when well applied.

Abstract

Background: Infectious diseases are diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. This bacterium is a gram-positive, cocci-shaped chain that infect the respiratory tract. As a result of irrational use of antibiotics is causing bacterial resistance. Utilization of plants used in traditional medicine as an alternative by some people. Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) is a plant that can be used as a traditional medicine can be found easily in Indonesia. Binahong is one of the medicinal plants are thought to have antibacterial effects. Objective: To investigate the effect of leaf extracts binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) against Streptococcus pyogenes bacterial growth in vitro. Research Methods: The study was conducted in July 2014 in the Laboratory of Bacteriology of Ministry of Health polytechnic Yogyakarta. Types experimental research is real by using desain one-short case study. Binahong leaves were tested came from Yogyakarta Sleman. Analysis of the data obtained and performed descriptive statistics and presented in tables or graphs. The statistical test used is one way analysis of variance (One Way Anova). Result: The mean diameter of inhibition zone binahong leaf extract on the growth of the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes at the smallest concentration that is 20% of 12.3 mm and largest concentration of 100% at 23.6 mm.
