Abstract

The September 11th 2001 attact in the United States has become the world’s turning point, from how terrorism actors operate globally through networks to how states and international relations actors response towards it. This article about the challenges for intellegence in counter-terrorism in Indonesia and the preventive actions needed especially in the use of information technollogy, as the form of detection effort and early warning for the terrors. Through the literature reviews, it is found that in practice the Indonesians intellegence activities are tend to not well organized from one institution to another because of the trust-deficit, overlapping activities and accuration of intellegence, and the lack of concrete actions in eliminating the terrorism threats in cyber sphere. It can be concluded that the comprehensive and integrative efforts are needed in organizing the intelligence in Indonesia. On the other hand, the national strategy on counter-terrorism in cyber area through the comprehensive use of information technology on the cyber terrorism threats.

Abstract

Indo-Pacific region is the most dynamic region in the 21st century with the economic growth that exceeds the rest of the world. Increased prosperity of countries in the region is accompanied by an increase in the defense budget that leads to arms race. The phenomenon is due to the existence of a conflict of interests among countries in the region in various forms. Border dispute is the most sensitive issue that can escalated into armed conflict. Such prominent problem is the border dispute over the territorial waters between some ASEAN countries with China in the South China Sea (SCS). SCS dispute involving China, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan. This article presents an in-depth review of the foreign policy of the Indonesian government should play in the Global Maritime Nexus vision in dealing with the dynamics of the strategic environment in the Indo-Pacific region in the 21st century.

Abstract

Air transportation is a crucial transportation mode in Indonesia due to its archipelagic geographical form. The problems arose from the delay of air carriers. This article aimed to discuss the problems of Indonesian air carriers from the international law perspective based on the literature studies of international conventions on air carrier industry. Some of the related conventions are: Chicago Convention 1944, Warsaw Convention 1929 that completed by the Den Haag Protocol 1955 and the Montreal Agreement 1966. Other than that the convention that regulates the airport safety from the sabotage and the regulations of Air Traffic Control. The analysis of these international laws therefore used to further analyze the responssse of Indonesia’s government on the delay of air carriers happened in 2015 by making the Government Regulation No. 89, 2015 on Air Carrier’s Delay. With the advancement of discussion and analysis on Indonesia’s government regulation for air carrier, therefore the responsssibility of air carriers’ delay is becoming clearer.

Abstract

Adalah suatu kebanggaan dan suka cita meluncurkan Jurnal Elektronik (e-Journal) edisi perdana, yaitu Intermestic: Journal of International Studies (INTERMESTIC), bersamaan waktunya dengan peringatan hari kelahiran Jurusan Hubungan Internasional atau kini disebut Program Studi Hubungan Internasional, FISIP, Universitas Padjadjaran. INTERMESTIC adalah jurnal yang diterbitkan oleh Departemen Hubungan Internasional, FISIP, Universitas Padjadjaran, untuk tujuan memberikan ruang dan prasarana bagi para peneliti dan penulis dari berbagai kalangan dalam berbagi dan mengekpresikan pengetahuan, pemikiran, gagasan dan penemuan akademis. Dalam hal ini, khususnya mengenai intermestik sebagai interelasi ataupun jaringan, yaitu interelasi internasional-domestik atau jaringan global-lokal lintas ragam pelaku, bidang dan sarana di dalam spektrum Kajian-kajian Internasional. Abstract

The seas and oceans are endless resources and a nation who chose oceans to advance their interest became politically strong and economically prosper. In today globalized economy western Pacific regions are strategic sea lanes that shape international political architecture with increased role in global economic. This essay will describe the usefulness of naval power of world class maritime power especially US Navy and its cooperation with Asian Nations in western Pacific based on theoretical framework from J.R. Hill and Ken Booth in addressing maritime security challenges in western pacific. The conclusion is that The US has been maintaining its naval power in western Pacific for decades by utilized all aspect of sea power in term of hard power as well as soft power to serve as security assurance of maritime trade routes.

Abstract

ASEAN is facing a complex problem when the interverence of two great powers, China and United States of America, expanded their influences in Southeast Asia. Both states gave their influence in the dynamic of South China Sea dispute. One of ASEAN member states that has interest on the claim of South China Sea was the Philippines. The Philippines and United States of America military cooperation triggered China to give their responses and made the conflict resolution became more complicated. This research aim to look at ASEAN role in dealing with the problem of two great powers related to one of ASEAN member. This research was using qualitative method. The research used the concept of the role of international organization. Analysis was conducted by using data interpretation on literature review.
