AIMS The journal presents as a medium to share knowledge and understanding art, culture, and design in the area of regional, national, and international levels. In accordance with the meaning of the word “Mudra”, which is a spiritual gesture and energy indicator, it is hoped that the journal will be able to vibrate the breath of art knowledge to its audience, both academics, and professionals. The journal accommodates articles from research, creation, and study of art, culture, and design without limiting authors from a variety of disciplinary/interdisciplinary approaches such as art criticism, art anthropology, history, aesthetics, sociology, art education, and other contextual approaches. SCOPE MUDRA, as the Journal of art and culture, is dedicated as a scientific dialectic vehicle that accommodates quality original articles covering the development of knowledge about art, ideas, concepts, phenomena originating from the results of scientific research, creation, presentation of fine arts, performing arts and new media from researchers, artists, academics, and students covering areas of study: Performing Arts: dance, puppetry, ethnomusicology, music, theater,performing arts education, performing arts management Fine Arts: fine arts, sculpture, craft art, fine arts education,fine arts management, including new media arts Design: interior design, graphic communication design, fashion design,product design, accessories and/or jewelry design Recording Media : photography, film, television, documentary, video art, animation,game Culture : linguistic, architecture, verbal tradition, as well as other communal tradition The object of research is explored in a variety of topics that are unique, relevant, and contextual with environmental and sustainability aspects, local wisdom, humanity and safety factors. In addition to that, the topic of research needs to be original, creative, innovative, excellence, and competitive.

Abstract

This article is the result of research conducted aiming to find out the meaning of customary graduation tradition that is still being carried out by Lekuk 50 Tumbi Lempur community until now. This traditional graduation is being held by Depati Nan Sepuluh (The Ten Leaders) to give titles to the sons and daughters of Lekuk 50 Tumbi Lempur community who have already obtained educational degree e.g. bachelor degree, master’s degree, and doctoral degrees. They celebrate this every year on 2 Shawwal or coinciding with Eid al-Fitr at some specified Village Hall. This research uses descriptive qualitative method where data was collected through observation, interview and documentation study. Result shows that series of activity process are being done for the inauguration procession. Bachelor’s degree holders will be confirmed as Cendikionegaro, while Master’s degree holders as Cendikionegaro Pertamo and Post Graduates degree holders/Professors as Cendikionegaro Utama. From the results of this study, it can be seen that the tradition of this customary graduation has a special meaning for the society of Lekuk 50 Tumbi Lempur as a form of appreciation given by The Ten Leaders so that the sons and daughters of Lempur is honoured and proud of their achievements. In addition to the achievements and degrees that they obtained, it was also a form of recognition of their degree in the society. This customary title is expected to motivate the sons and daughters of Lekuk 50 Tumbi Lempur to reach their goals and achieve success in the future.

Abstract

As one of the classic Javanese batik, the Kawung batik motif contains philosophical values ​​that teach life guidelines for humans, such as gratitude, religiosity, respect for nature, and togetherness. These philosophical values ​​are still relevant to the current situation, so it is interesting to be used as a source of ideas for the creation of contemporary paintings. This article is the result of research that aims to describe the philosophical values ​​of the Kawung batik motif as a source of ideas and the process of creating contemporary batik paintings. The method is descriptive qualitative with the type of art creation research. The stages include: 1) gathering information about the Kawung batik motif, 2) exploring ideas based on the philosophical meaning of the Kawung batik motif, 3) making a design sketch, 4) realizing the sketch into a painting, 5) describing the shape of the painting created. The results of this study are 1) a description of the philosophical meaning of Kawung batik motifs, 2) a description of the process of creating contemporary batik painting works, 3) a description of the forms of contemporary batik painting works that contain philosophical values ​​of Kawung batik motifs. The results of this study indicate that the batik painting produced has a local character and represents the soul of the times. Thus, it is evident that the local wisdom values ​​of traditional culture can be developed and harmonized with contemporary culture.

Abstract

This study examines the cultural perceptions of Dayak Kanayatn community on Singkawang ceramics. The scope of the problem includes, aesthetic, community perception, and ceramics function based on cultural perception. The research location was in Sebetuk, Antan Rayan Village, Ngabang District, Landak Regency, Kalimantan Barat. A qualitative design in the form of case studies was used. Data were gathered using observation, interviews, and documents. The findings of this study overall proved that Singkawang ceramics owned by Dayak Kanayatn community influenced by Chinese culture as seen on boko’o, siam, jampa, tajau, karokot, siton, twakag ba’butuh, banyanyi, karere, balangkas, oncok tabu, plate variants, tetek ijo. Dayak Kanayatn community believe on ceramics as an incarnation of the ancestors and referred as a tangah symbolized by the variety of decoration and form. The ceramics are used by the community as media for several activities as well on law regulations and are considered as a link between humans and ancestral spirits of the Dayak Kanayatn tribe.

Abstract

Pertunjukkan ketoprak merupakan suatu pertunjukkan dengan menampilkan cerita kehidupan masyarakat Jawa yang banyak mengandung pesan dan nilai karakter yang sangat berguna untuk kehidupan sehari-hari dengan dikemas dalam bentuk dialog dan adegan. Pendidikan karakter berguna untuk mengatur dan membina karakter masyarakat khususnya para remaja. Hal tersebut dikarenakan banyaknya karakter perilaku yang menyimpang dan memprihatinkan yang ditunjukkan oleh para remaja. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis nilai pendidikan karakter pada pertunjukkan ketoprak lakon Pedhut Jatisrana sebagai sarana dan media pendidikan karakter. Adapun sumber data pada penelitian ini dengan menyimak dan mengamati langsung video dokumentasi pertunjukkan ketoprak lakon Pedhut Jatisrana. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisis dokumentasi video pertunjukkan ketoprak lakon Pedhut Jatisrana. Adapun analisis data menggunakan pengamatan adegan dan dialog pada pertunjukkan ketoprak Pedhut Jatisrana. Pada hasil penelitian ditemukan adanya nilai pendidikan karakter yang dikemas dalam sebuah dialog pada pertunjukkan ketoprak Pedhut Jatisrana karya Bondan Nusantara tersebut. Adapun nilai pendidikan karakter yang ditemukan yaitu karakter peduli sosial, jujur, cinta damai, kerja keras, cinta tanah air, religius, dan rasa ingin tahu yang terdapat pada dialog-dialog pertunjukkan ketoprak tersebut. Adapun nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter berguna dan relevan sebagai sarana dan media pendidikan karakter untuk masyarakat saat ini.

Abstract

Tanah pelaba pura merupakan salah satu bagian dari tanah adat. Eksistensi tanah pelaba pura memiliki arti penting dalam keberlangsungan desa adat yang merupakan kesatuan masyarakat hukum adat di Provinsi Bali. Tanah pelaba pura biasanya dimanfaatkan sebagai lahan pertanian atau perkebunan yang memiliki fungsi untuk menunjang upacara keagamaan di pura. Seiring perkembangan zaman, sebagian besar tanah pelaba pura di wilayah yang berkembang pesat mengalami perubahan pemanfaatan. Salah satu desa adat yang berada di Kota Denpasar dan memiliki tanah pelaba pura ialah Desa Adat Kesiman. Berdasarkan inventarisasi lahan yang dilakukan oleh Desa Adat Kesiman, maka dipilihlah tanah pelaba Pura Dalem untuk diteliti karena lahan tersebut lebih banyak mengalami perubahan pemanfaatan dibandingkan dengan tanah pelaba pura lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji variasi pemanfaatan tanah pelaba Pura Dalem yang ditinjau melalui aspek latar belakang dan pengelolaannya. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi untuk dapat memahami fenomena tentang pemanfaatan tanah pelaba Pura Dalem pada tiga kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara studi literatur, observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil akhir penelitian menunjukkan ditemukan empat variasi pemanfaatan tanah pelaba Pura Dalem di Desa Adat Kesiman yaitu : (1) pemanfaatan lahan yang bersifat mandiri; (2) pemanfaatan lahan yang terbangun oleh pihak ketiga; (3) pemanfaatan lahan oleh pihak ketiga sebagai area pertanian; dan (4) pemanfaatan lahan sesuai proyeksi kebutuhan.

Abstract

Karya seni instalasi merupakan perpaduan dari berbagai seni rupa yang dipasang dengan maksud sebagai hiasan berdurasi terbatas. Seni instalasi bambu bernama “Getah Getih” yang ditempatkan di seberang Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) Jakarta merupakan karya Joko Dwi Avianto menurut ide Gubernur DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan. Konsep “Getah Getih” diinspirasi oleh sejarah keberanian, dedikasi, dan sifat rela berkorban pasukan kerajaan Hindu Majapahit yang baru mendarat demi kejayaan kerajaan. Konsep bambu yang disusun saling bertautan memiliki makna penyemangat para atlet yang berlaga di Asian Games 2018. Bahan bambu dipilih karena keunikannya di antara bangunan beton bertingkat di Jakarta. Namun, pemaknaan sebuah karya seni tidak bisa lepas dari fenomena yang sedang terjadi pada waktu karya tersebut dibuat. Jalinan bambu menimbulkan kontroversi saat sebagian masyarakat menganggapnya menyimbolkan posisi bersetubuh. Pemilihan bahan baku yang tidak awet juga menuai kritik keras. Pun demikian halnya dengan anggaran besar yang dianggap tidak sesuai dengan nilai fungsi karya seni. Maka, ekspektasi publik Jakarta untuk seni instalasi yang elegan, modern, dan bertahan lama tidak terpenuhi. “Getah Getih” lantas dianggap sebagai pencitraan politik Anies belaka. Esensi kekecewaan terhadap “Getah Getih” bersumber dari tuntutan hadirnya kemonumentalan seni yang dipajang di ruang publik. Indikator kemonumentalan dilekatkan pada seni instalasi yang bersifat temporer. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan fenomenologi. Paradigma penilaian kemonumentalan dilihat dari wilayah ide/gagasan, ekspresi, komunikasi, dan apresiasi pewacanaan. Dari analisis ditemukan bahwa seni instalasi patung “Getah Getih” yang diharapkan tidak monumental justru mencapai titik kemonumentalannya karena adanya kebaruan berupa unsur tak beraga yaitu pewacanaan melalui media sosial dan keterlibatan opini publik menerima atau menolak kehadirannya. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemonumentalan sebuah seni instalasi tidak sengaja dapat terbagun apabila diletakkan pada ruang sentral sebuah kota, banyak diakses publik secara langsung, dan ketepatan waktu ketika seni dijadikan komoditas yang dipertentangkan antar kubu politik.

Abstract

Maskulinitas merupakan identitas yang berharga terkhusus bagi seorang laki-laki, tak heran banyak dari laki-laki mencoba berbagai cara untuk mengekspresikan maskulinitas mereka. Tato dianggap sebagai salah satu simbol maskulinitas bagi laki-laki. Tato dapat menjadi representasi identitas dan ekspresi seseorang, banyak dari laki-laki mengekspresikan diri mereka dengan simbol-simbol tato yang dilukis ditubuh mereka. Tato dalam pandangan masyarakat memiliki makna yang beragam, dalam beberapa komunitas masyarakat adat di Indonesia tato bahkan menjadi budaya yang sarat dengan pesan hidup sementara di masyarakat modern tato selain penyampai pesan juga sebagai unsur yang memiliki nilai estetika tersendiri. Simbol maskulinitas berupa tato dianggap memiliki nilai seni yang tinggi dan nilai pesan yang sangat baik untuk mengekpresikan pesan maskulin seseorang.

Abstract

The phenomenon of coffee consumption is currently rife among young people as a lifestyle. Coffee had become one of the first global commodities. It has become common to find coffee shops, coffee bars, and kiosks. The phenomenon of coffee consumption is related to the role of a barista’s art. Baristas can be said as people who are experts in making coffee. However, while barista is widely known to the public only in the coffee shop even though many places for baristas can introduce coffee, such as in hotels, restaurants, offices or other public places. This paper aims to describe the role of barista art in educating the public about coffee. This paper is a compilation of several journal articles and books related to coffee, coffee culture, baristas, and the art of making coffee. Article references are obtained through Mendeley by selecting references that correspond to each topic of discussion. Discussion topics include Coffee Culture and Coffee Shop, Barista’s Action Art, and Coffee Education through Barista Art. The results showed that the existence of baristas had a very important role in educating coffee to the people of Indonesia, especially introducing archipelago coffee. Barista as the main agent in the dissemination of information about coffee so that it is very necessary to have a characteristic of art that must be possessed by the barista as one of the added values ​​in the dissemination of information about coffee.

Abstract

Fashion style refers to the way of wearing certain categories of clothing related to the concept of taste that refers to a person’s preferences or tendencies towards a particular style. In Indonesia, clothing does not only function as a body covering but also as a person’s style. One way is to use traditional cloth is by wearing batik.Batik clothing, which initially took the form of non -sewn cloth, such as a long cloth, became a sewn cloth like a sarong that functions as a subordinate, evolved with the changing fashion trends prevailing in Indonesia. At the beginning of the development of batik in Indonesia, in the 18th century, batik as a women’s main clothing was limited to the form of kain panjang and sarong. However, in the following century, the use of batik clothing became increasingly diverse as material for dresses, tunics, and blouses.This research uses a historical approach in observing batik fashion by utilizing documentation of fashion magazines and women’s magazines in Indonesia. The change and diversity of batik clothing in Indonesian women’s clothing styles are influenced by changes and developments in the role of Indonesian women themselves, ranging from those that are only doing domestic activities, but also going to school, and working in the public. However, fashion trend factors are also a parameter of change in batik clothing, which result in adaptive and flexible batik clothing.

Abstract

Sejak beberapa tahun terakhir, Rejang mengalami geliat pertumbuhan yang begitu populer. Di tengah suburnya berbagai bentuk tari kreasi rarejangan, di Desa Nongan terdapat tari Rejang yang telah dua kali mengalami rekonstruksi, tahun 1984 dan 2019. Tahun 2019 desa setempat kembali melakukan rekonstruksi merujuk hasil penelitian berjudul Kontinuitas dan Perubahan Tari Rejang Balang Tamak di Desa Nongan, Kecamatan Rendang, Kabupaten Karangasem, tahun 2017. Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk meneliti bentuk dan fungsi Tari Rejang Pala, pasca rekonstruksi tahun 2019. Landasan teoritis yang digunakan adalah teori estetika dan teori fungsional. Model penelitian yang digunakan ialah penelitian kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, studi kepustakaan, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, Tari Rejang Pala ialah tarian sakral dalam upacara Usaba Desa, untuk menyambut Ida Betara Dalem pada prosesi memasar di Pura Pesamuhan Agung. Para penarinya dibagi dalam tiga klasifikasi umur, yaitu: (1) anak-anak disebut Rejang Alit; (2) remaja putri disebut Rejang Daha; dan (3) Ibu-Ibu disebut Rejang Lingsir. Fungsi primer Tari Rejang Pala, yakni sebagai sarana ritual, secara tidak langsung juga sebagai sarana hiburan pribadi, dan sebagai presentasi estetis. Fungsi sekundernya, sebagai pengikat solidaritas dan sebagai sarana komunikasi. Keunikan Tari Rejang Pala dapat dilihat pada gelungannya, yaitu dihiasi dengan berbagai macam buah-buahan.
