Abstract

This article aims at framing a theological understanding about business in the context of the impacts of corporate conducts on human rights. The relevance of this theological understanding arises from the need to bring a true liberation (salvation) in a contradictory reality: human suffering due to human rights violation in business activities on the one hand and ineffectiveness of legal and moral instruments, as well as weak individual and collective commitments of government and business actors in dealing with that problem on the other hand. Using “creation, fall and redemption” approach as basis for biblical worldview to understand issues related to business and its social impacts, this article highlights the necessity of internal factors as foundational values that can bring about a true commitment to do business not only based on legal and moral norms as a mere socio-political consensus, but also as an expression of a socio-spiritual obedience to and faith in God. Because, more than just accumulating commercial benefits, business has mission to realize God’s work for human salvation in this world. Business actors as individuals and organization (corporation) become God’s collaborators – mainly in their nature as bearer of the Image of God and mandate of creation - to materialize the works of salvation in this world through their activities in the production and distribution of goods and services that respect human rights. Keywords: teologi bisnis, korporasi, hak asasi manusia, gambaran Allah, mandat penciptaan, penebusan, kapitalisme liberal

Abstract

This articleaims to respond Al Gore’s critics onArne Naess’ concept of deep ecology. ForAl Gore, deep ecology of ArneNaesshas reduced the position and the role of human being in nature. The reason is becauseNaess’s deep ecologyis assumed to see human being as the source of destruction on earth and alien which is not part of nature; it grasps man as creature without ability to think and to have free will; and it has no solution for current ecological crisis. Naess, in constrast, comprehends human beings as good in himself, part of nature, and a unique creature. Because of this uniqueness, human being has responsibility to protect and to preserve nature. Thus, although they have differences, both deep ecology of Naess and the ecology of Al Gore havemany similarities. These similarities can be used ascontribution to any effort to save the earth today.Key words: ekologi dalam, menusia, alam, antroposentrisme, ekosentrisme

Abstract

This article presents a philosophical reflection on the story of Hotel Rwanda’s film from the Ethic’s perspective of Emmanuel Levinas. Hotel Rwanda’s Film tells a story about the conflict between two of Rwanda’s native tribes, Hutu and Tutsi, that highlighting violence and genocide as the impact of the racial discrimination paradigm. By analyzing some events that were pictures from the film, I saw that two interesting ideas to reflect by Levinas’ Ethic perspective. First, about the dangerous tendency of totality by stigmatizing other people by ideas. And the second is the philosophical idea regards to the meaning of encountering the face of the other, as the basis of responsibility to the other man. In that way, Hotel Rwanda’s film can be presenting a relevant illustration for some core on Levinas’ thought that focusing on the ethical problem concerning justice and humanityKeywords: Hutu, Tutsi, Genocide, The Face, The other, Ethics.

Abstract

This article focuses on Capability Approach in Philosophy and the Possibility of Politics of Recognition: to reconstruct Ricoeur’s practical philosophy. Based on his philosophical question: what is capable self? we search for the meaning of human capability which will imply an understanding of the self and the recognition of its basic personal capacities, from where proceeds mutual recognition. Since this is the main goal of Ricoeur, I choose to expose this part of his work with the objective of structuring its ethical aim, which is to live good life with and for others in just institutions. Here, love, justice and the poetics of the gift will play significant roles. This study is divided into three main parts. Part One is a discussion of the phenomenology of the capable self that aims to emphasize the meaning of personal capacities in terms of self’s ability. Part Two presents ethics and the politics of recognition in three sub-themes: self-esteem, solicitude for others and justice in institutions. This leads to the Part Three which completes the previous study by analyzing the relationship between love, justice and possibility of the politics of mutual recognition. Keywords: Capable self, Mutual Recognition, Ethical Aim and the Poetics of the Gift.

Abstract

Abstract

This article tries to elaborate the relationship between post-secularism, democracy and the public role of religion. The facts of religion’s global revival show the failure of secularization thesis about the disappearance of religion from the public sphere. In political philosophy and social sciences, this phenomenon is called post-secularism. In this article, post-secularism is understood as a phenomenon of religion’s revival in the public sphere or the legitimacy for public role of religion. This understanding is especially necessary  to encourage religion in addressing political, social and humanitarian issues. However, this understanding does not ignore the fact that religion often becomes a scandal and terror for democracy. Therefore, in this article, post-secularism also needs another understanding, namely as "awareness of a reciprocal learning process" between religion and secularity, religious and secular citizens, faith and reason, religious doctrine and public reason. The last model of post-secularism is urgently needed in Indonesia.Key words: Post-secularism, secularization, religion, democracy.

Abstract

Violent texts in the bible both in the Old Testament or in the New Testament, especially in the Old Testament, arise a problem for a potential reader on how to read and understand their message and the theology of the author of the Book. For this reason, biblical scholars try to read it and they propose the way to read such texts, such as to read them in the historical context of the Book itself, and interpret them as a reflection of the author and their experience. This article tries to propose another way to read violent texts, in particularly that involve God as author of violent deeds. The methode of this discussion is exegetical analysis on the texts of the Old Testament, especially on those which narrate the violent deeds of God . The result of the study is the violent deeds of God aim to recreate the creation; that is why such violent texts might be read in the frame of the new creation.Key words: Alkitab, Keluaran, Kekerasan, Allah, Penciptaan (Baru)

Abstract

This paper aims to provide new insights on the importance of family catechesis during the Covid 19 pandemic. During the Covid 19 pandemic, religious activities have been eliminated or restricted. Normally, Catholics can celebrate worship at church, but that will no longer be possible after the government prohibits gathering to prevent the transmission of the Coronavirus. Therefore, this situation hinders the formation of the faith of the people. Then, there was a shift in the celebration of faith which was originally held in the church to be carried out in the family during the Covid 19 pandemic. Therefore, family catechesis in this regard plays an important role in the celebration of faith within the family itself. The methodology is a qualitative method. The data were collected from books, news, and journals. For data analysis, this study used a deductive method with maggid ritual catechesis model as a perspective. This study found that family catechesis with the maggid ritual catechesis model can answer what the Catholic family missed during the Covid 19 pandemic, namely the celebration of togetherness, the experience of community faith, internalization, and transformation. Abstract

The ecclesiastical leaders have made policies that encourage the faithful to worship at home as a part of the effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Online Mass became a principal solution to fulfill Sunday's obligations. This article aims to evaluate the online Mass practice from the believers' perspective. To study people's attitudes towards online Masses, interviews were conducted and results showed that people in general were dissatisfied with this practice. Underlying the dissatisfaction were assumptions, which need to be clarified, for example, that Mass as being identical to Holy Communion is considered the only way to fulfill the Sunday's obligations. In fact, there are a number of religious practices and doctrinal teachings that could serve as better alternatives to the Eucharistic celebration on Sundays. This paper concludes that online Mass is not the right solution to the problem of worship during the pandemic.Key words: Covid-19, kewajiban hari Minggu, misa daring, Komuni Kudus, communio

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the impact of Derrida's theory of deconstruction in relation to the application of contemporary Christian hermeneutics as well as an attempt at hermeneutical repositioning. The methodological approach used in this paper is descriptive qualitative with instruments of literature study, comparison and textual analysis. Concretely, critical analysis is carried out in stages of deconstruction theory, various phenomena of contemporary Christian hermeneutics, then presents the idea of Christian hermeneutics as a comparative model and discourse criticism. Meanwhile, the body of the writing is divided into three parts according to the analysis pattern. First, it specifically examines Derrida's theory of deconstruction. Second, it is an analysis of several forms of hermeneutic phenomena and discourse of Christian theology which are currently developing. Third, reviewing the Christian hermeneutic discourse from the evangelical perspective in an effort to reposition, criticize, and test discourse on the contemporary worldview. Through this research, distortions were found in hermeneutic studies and contemporary Christian discourse with several forms of deconstruction approaches. The three explicit patterns used are the hermeneutic application of binary negation to conservative theological discourse, the explicit emphasis on the textual eisegesis model and the post-structuralism approach to interpretation..Key words: Dekonstruksi, hermeneutika, oposisi biner, semantic, interpretasi biblis
