Abstract

This research aimed to find out: 1) the process of applying the measurement method to learning Arabic grammar in one of the secondary schools in Lombok for the students of class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie; and 2) the difficulties in applying the qiyasi method to learning Arabic grammar for students in class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie. As a whole, researchers tried to find the uniqueness of the qiyasi method, while the measurement method was one applied in learning Arabic, especially in learning Arabic grammar in class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman. It is not known whether the method is suitable for all students, considering that this method is more suitable for use at the upper level or university level, whereas students at Madrasa Nida’urrahman come from various educational backgrounds, including beginner-level students. This research employed a descriptive-qualitative method. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results fell into the following: 1) The process of applying the measurement method in learning Arabic grammar in class X Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie demonstrated some information. The teacher repeated the lesson from the previous week, explained certain grammar, and gave examples. Hence, with these examples, the teacher explained the rules in more detail. After it was deemed sufficient, the teacher asked students to work in questions from the book to find out the extent of their understanding of materials that had been explained. 2) The obstacles in the application of the measurement method in class X Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie subsumed (a) the obstacles faced by the teacher, namely the different backgrounds of students, and environmental factors; and (b) the obstacles faced by students covering a lack of knowledge, boredom when studying, and sleepiness when studying.

Abstract

This research aimed to continue the previous research by describing Arabic language teachers’ lesson plans at MAN 2, MA Muhammadiyah, and MA Al-Umm in Malang, as these lesson plans were affected by the school environment. This research sought to describe the differences in lesson plans designed and implemented by Arabic teachers at the aforesaid schools. This research deployed a qualitative approach and the case study method with multiple case studies. The data were garnered from interviews and documentation. The research results showed differences in planning methods, bases, and sources of learning among these schools, which were caused by differences in the availability of teachers and systems at each school. The teachers planned to teach the Arabic language in MAN 2 based on KMA 183 using the joint method and group technique, while the Arabic language teacher in MA Muhammadiyah planned lessons based on the same report. The Arabic language teacher at MA Al-Umm planned lessons individually based on her own innovations. Therefore, each school should provide a supportive program to improve the competencies of the Arabic language teachers in planning lessons.

Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the captions of TikTok application from the perspective of translation techniques, methods, and ideology. As a matter of fact, although many scholars have researched the application of TikTok as a learning medium, less is known about it from the perspective of translation studies. The data of this study were derived from Arabic–Indonesian captions in the personal accounts of Abu Danah and Ahmad Al-Kurman, uploaded families from August to December 2021. The findings showcased the most dominant translation techniques found in 27 captions in the Abu Danah family account. 20 captions of Ahmad Al-Kurman were identified as a transposition translation technique. The translation method found in the caption of Abu Danah family account tended to use communicative methods and domestication ideology. In contrast, the translation method and ideology inclined to be used in the translation of Ahmad Al-Kurman's captions were free a translation method and the ideology of domestication. The study’s results concluded that the applications of transposition translation technique, the translation method tending to target languages, and the domestication ideology referred to translators' efforts to make it easier for readers to understand the translation results on TikTok media with its minimal space. Thus, short-form Arabic social media texts should be applied the free translation method based on domestication ideology in order to have a high level of readability.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the basic concept of Arabic learning based on spiritual motivation as a new approach to learning Arabic in Indonesia, where most of the population is Muslim. In Indonesia’s learning context, Arabic has a dual role as a means of communication and a tool to explore various kinds of Islamic knowledge. This study used descriptive analysis and document analysis methods, by examining various kinds of Arabic scientific literature and learning methodologies and educational documents unique to Indonesia. This study’s results indicated that students’ motivation to learn Arabic pedagogically is to get closer to Allah SWT and love the Prophet. In the development of Arabic, spiritual motivation can be applied to three things, namely learning achievement indicators seen from the level of obedience to Allah and social interactions, the learning process which includes the visualization of Islamic sacred symbols, textbooks whose sources are adapted from the Al-Quran, Hadith, and the advice of Ulama’. Learning Arabic in a spiritual context can encourage a greater interest in learning it and promote its use as a medium of communication and expression as well as being a medium of getting closer to God.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a speaking-skill test at the B1 of CEFR, to determine the levels of validity, reliability, and difficulty of each item, and to organize the distinguishing power of each item on the prepared test. This research was motivated by the need of Arabic Language Test as an evaluation activity that required for various purposes. Several universities in Indonesia have also intended the existence of a language test as a requirement for continuing studies to a higher degree or to a place where linguistic proficiency is required or work somewhere. Also, the most important is to upgrade students’ language skills after knowing their language abilities. This test was in the form of an aptitude test or an ability test for each skill in the Arabic language. But in the speaking skill, this test still required preparation and development of more test questions to practice. Apart from the test questions, the method of assessment and the procedures for its implementation also needed to be developed and considered. Then, the researchers took account of the need to compile and make a good test product in speaking skills by following the steps for preparing a standardized test. This was the Research and Development (R&D) with Borg and Gall’s version. The researchers used the ANATES V.0.5 2022 application for processing data and analyzing test results. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the test was feasible because it met the requirements of a good test. The trial results showed high validity and reliability values, and the level of difficulty of each item also had good distinguishing power. Out of a total of 17 questions, 13 questions were stated to be very valid, 2 questions were valid, and 2 questions were striped (-), indicating that these two questions needed to be re-analyzed on what aspects made them less valid so that the questions could be revised. These values were obtained from the results of two trials conducted in the sixth semester.
