Abstract

As a place of holy worship, a Catholic Church should posses a sacred interior and exterior expression. Modernization has caused a good deal of this sacred expression of the Catholic Church to fade. As Catholic Church is a place of worship that supports all liturgical activities, semiotic theory are used to analyze and decipher its architecture to preserve sacredness. The research methodology that was employed was qualitative methods using Peirce’s semiotic principles and their implementation in Church architecture. The principle was then used to analyze two case studies in every detail of their draw up. The area of planning encompassed: (1) Scope of the surrounding environment; (2) Scope of the site; (3) Scope of the form. This analysis employed semiotic principles that were elaborated with Catholic Church principles to create a guideline in the architectural planning of a Catholic Church. The purpose of this research is to find the most dominant sacral expression between Santo Petrus Church and the Santa Perawan Maria Tujuh Kedukaan Church by means of the symbols attached to the architectural elements between these two Catholic Churches.

Preliminary studies indicate that Gereja Kristen Pniel Blimbingsari through the acculturation process that affect in architectural form and religious rituals. This study aims to reveal a form of acculturation occurs seen from the aspect of function, form and meaning of the building. The method in this research that is descriptive, analytical, and interpretative based on field studies and empirical evidence. This approach taken grounded in cultural theory and archetypes in architecture which collaborated with the aspect of function, form, and meaning of architecture. The study concluded that occur relations between function, form and meaning that implies domination in the form of architecture acculturated. The study concludes that there was a relation between function, form and meaning which implies the dominance in the form of architecture that acculturated. Dominance in this study is as a result of interpretation from the analysis conducted. The concept of Asta Kosala Kosali have a dominant role in shaping the architectural form of acculturation Gereja Kristen Pniel Blimbingsari. Abstract

Physical comfort in a building can give an effect to the psychological inhabitans. In the design of nursing homes, where the residents are elderly, certainly they have a different physical comfort with a younger people. The degenerative disease on elderly cause the need for special attention in architecture, especially on safety and comfort. Currently the nursing homes, mostly do not noticed it well, so still discovered lots of the elderlies got an accident and depressed in a nursing home. This research purpose to know the relationship between the aspects of both comfort and safety for elderly in nursing home that can make the elderly feel comfortable and happy living in their residence. The methods of this research are as follows: first, understand the criteria of elderly in related literatures and observations regarding to the elderly and other related literatures that subscribe with safety and comfort. Second, the literatures study was used to analyze the case study such as Nursing Home Wisma Mulia (Jakarta), Nursing Home Senjarawi (Bandung), and Nursing Home Muara Kasih (Bogor). The results of analysis from the case studies based on the literature, produce an architectural design criterion for the review occupancy elderly. The results of this research concluded that the design of the comfortable and safe against risk of any accident that may occur to the elderly, provided a circulation which can be passes by two wheelchairs at once and freeway, provided handrail in the circulation, provided ramp in any difference level of floor, and using a contrast color but dominant in light and warm color. The other considerations are the availability nostalgic room, playroom for children and the other facility that make the frequency of their families, visiting more often.

Abstract

The purpose of this reserach is to provide design ideas of shoes home industry by designing the layout that can acommodate the transformation and space needed working & living area. The research’s method based on the phenomenon in the shoes home industry starting from surveying the object which is Perkampungan Industri Kecil (PIK) Penggilingan and understanding the fundamentals points of shoes home industry in terms of transformation, space requirements, and natural lighting & ventilation. The pattern of object’s transformation used for determine the organization of space that can be considered for designing the layout. Space requirement analyzed according to the standard of space. Lighting & natural ventilation analyzed with ecotect simulation according to the standard of health’s minister. The research concluded that the pattern of transformation on the object by level of transformation should be done by extension. In spatial transformation, the design should adapt to makes change of space requirement, especially for the expansion of flexible and residential area. In configurational transformation, service area should be considered in layout design because its fixed position. Some of residential area can be combined with production area in the very small home industry. In the small home industry, some of space can be multifunctional, but there should have a separation between residential and production area. Space on the object needs some adjustments based on standard of space requirements. Some of space can be multifunctional and used portable furniture depends on activity and time-used. Working maps of production area should be arrange using spatial patterns based on the flow of production process. Natural lighting and ventilation should be adjusted to the lighting standard (1000 lux for upper area, 300 lux for bottom area) and thermal comfort (21-30°C).

Abstract

Post occupancy evaluation is a tool to measure the qualities of an in-use building with the purpose of increasing the qualities of the building from the perspective which design process could overlook. There is a lot of aspects that has to be evaluated in the post occupancy evaluation, but the most frequently evaluated aspects are technical aspects, functional aspects, and behavioral aspects. This research emphasizes on the functional aspect to search for problems concerning evacuation circulation of Si Jalak Harupat Stadium by comparing observed object with the experience of users in how they recognize and aware of emergency evacuation elements. Users experience will be collected by using questionnaire and mental mapping. The respondents are Persib supporters who watch the matches at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium. Both of the tools will describe user perception and knowledge regarding evacuation elements legibility. This research will be concluded by describing just how far the evacuation elements of Si Jalak Harupat Stadium known by the users and find the solution to increase users awareness regarding evacuation elements inside the stadium.

Abstract

The design of the elderly housing is increasingly needed, as a result life expectancy has improved which make the growth number of the elderly increases. Senior living for the elderly have had unfavorable image in the community because of a lack of attention to the design of the special needs of the elderly. Like providing the handrail around the wall to maintain the body balance when the elderly walking through the circulation way. The main issue is accessibility in elderly housing for the comfort mobility of the residents to do their daily activity. For that, this research has been done from the ergonomic and anthropometric theory base as a reference in the making of the accessibility comfort analysis. This research are aims to find out how to find senior living design consideration that prioritizes the accessibility comfort of elderly people in the fulfillment of convenience in specific design for everyday activities. Case studies are designed with a qualitative comparative method. Senior living research is taken in the form of photos documentation, notes, interviews and observation. Through the research results are expected to find senior living design guidelines for the elderly based on the building and the space arrangement for accessibility. These research efforts are to help for all those who want to enrich design learning about ideal accessibility in senior living design.

Abstract

A building is supposed to be designed suitable for the community’s life. The emergence of multistoreyed building as a solution over limited usable land has caused the practice of International Style where a building no longer regards the characteristics of place where they are built. According to the theory of Critical Regionalism, there should be appropriate integration between local and contemporary factors. Bali as one of many region in Indonesia with abundance of culture is seen as a suitable place to applicate this theory. The type of multistoreyed building chosen was apartment, which is becoming a prevalent phenomenon in the mentioned region, and also as a settlement building type it is seen as the closest type to inhabitant’s activity thus has a close connection with the community’s culture. The research is made to discover how far has the local and contemporary factors been applied to apartments build in Bali according to the theory of Critical Regionalism. This research utilizes qualitative method through the use of Critical Regionalism principles from Ken Yeang in the form of Functional Connection to analyze the case study. There are four steps of said principle, Direct Connection, Indirect Connection, Inclusive Contemporary Connection, and Landscape Connection. At the result of this research, it was found that there was a lack in application of Critical Regionalism principles particularly in principles of building form, the usage of traditional concepts, facilities availability, and treatment towards environtment.
