Abstract

A curiculum as a teaching program of one of the instutions may have changed in accodance with the need of the society. In Indonesia, the government under the administration of the Ministry of National Education has made the changes of curriculum for several times, such as, KTSP 2006 (unit lesson-based curriculum) and Kurikulum berbasis karakter2013 (character-based curriculum).These changes are aimed at developing the quality of education in this country. This writing discusses the differences between KTSP 2006 and Kurikulum berbasis karakter 2013. Through the discussion, it is found that there are some differences between both of these curriculum in many aspects in lessons focused, methods applied, students’ achievement scale, and teaching learning goals.

Abstract

Qanun of education is hoped to be socialized in Aceh education. This research aims to give information and real description of islamic education in Banda Aceh city. The result showed that the concept of curriculum, educators, and educational institution in Qanun No. 5 year 2008 is the education run based on islamic values, foundations, and cultures as guidance to implement islamic law (syari’at) truly in every aspects of life. The implementation of curriculum, educators, and educational institution have contributed significantly, yet it still have to be improved.Overall, they are classified into good catagory. It showed that most of teachers have good impression toward the implementation of islamic education in Banda Aceh city.

Abstract

The theory of politeness suggests strategies in social interaction by which a person can use to save the hearer’s face upon the effect of face-threatening acts or FTAs. Face threatening acts are described by Brown and Levinson as the acts that infringe the hearer’s need of maintaining his/her self-esteem and be respected. Brown and Levinson accepted that the notion of face is respected as universal norms or values subscribed to by the members of the society. In that regard, this article provides a discussion about various viewpoints on the debate of universality of politeness theory and criticisms addressed by eastern-pragmaticists that this theory should not be seen as universally applicable. Cultural differences, as suggested by non-western pragmaticists, accord what is accepted in the context of face in western culture to be not accepted in other cultures. Therefeore, although we accept that Brown & Levinson’s theory has made a significant breakthrough in elaborating politeness, appropriation of this theory should be accounted in intercultural communication instead to accept it as universal.

Abstract

A strategy for a school headmaster is the most decisive factor in succeeding school’s quality improvement. This study aims at describing a main strategy planning, implementation, supervision and barriers in educational quality improvement. The study used a qualitative approach in descriptive methods. The data collection were used are observation, interview and documentation. The subjects of the study are the school committee, school head masters, teachers and Students. The result of the study shows that: 1) the main strategy planning in school quality improvement is by involving all school personnel, in which the head master of the school give an opportunity to the teachers to engage in quality planning, the head master of the school cooperate with the committee in formulating the school budget. 2) Head master strategy in improving the teaching quality is placing the teaching professionally, to learn an appropriate curriculum, to assist and to give suggestion to the teachers, as well as new student test implementation. 3) Strategy of the head master of the school in controlling school quality being conducted is using teaching supervision group controlling and individual techniques on quality improvement activities. 4) Some barriers on the implementation of the head master of the school quality are that the head master of the school could not spend the time and control all the school activities. The teachers are lack of ability to operate the advance school facility. The students’ evaluations which involved students’ parents who often do not welcome their sons’ shortcomings. This case is the difficulty of the teachers to evaluate.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of rewards in the learning process excercised in senior high schools in Aceh Singkil, especially in Islamic Education subject. Furthermore, this research tries to see what forms of reward are practiced in the learning process, what kinds of impacts arise from giving rewards in the learning process and finally, the supporting factors and obstacles in giving rewards in the selected school. The method used in this study is qualitative research. Data is collected from interviews and field notes. The results of this study indicate that the forms of giving rewards in the learning process of Islamic Education at Muhammadiyah High School in Gunung Meriah, Singkil include mainly introducing programs such as free snacks, pocket money, bags, shoes, uniforms, stationery, awards and trophies for students achievements, as well as giving motivation to students to a lesser extend. In addition, other findings also revealed both positive effects of rewards such as increasing student enthusiasm and achievement, as well as negative students, such as students tend to be more complacent and arrogant. With regard to supporting factors in giving rewards include strong encouragement and consistency of teachers and schools in motivating students. While a number of discouraging factors were also found, among others, the environment was not good, lack of awareness in students and lack of communication with parents of students.

Abstract

Mahārah kalām (speaking skills) is a part of skills that highly considered in learning Arabic at Pesantren Darul Ulum Banda Aceh. It encourages students to practice speaking Arabic on a daily basis both in the classroom and outside. Based on pre observations, there are many students who are unable to speak or communicate in Arabic. Most of them feel tired and bored to learn Arabic due to media being used that does not match with the learning process, while some of them do not practice using Arabic in daily conversation. Based on this situation, the author conducted research using animation media to improve learning speaking skills at the school using action research approach. The results of this study show that the continuity of the learning process with the media is very effective in improving the language proficiency particularly speaking skills. Furthermore, they are also delighted with the use of animation media in the learning process. Keywords: Learning Arabic; Speaking Skills; Animation Media

Abstract

Administration has a wider meaning than management, for management is the core of administration. Educational management is a systematic and comprehensive process of cooperation to reach the goals of national education. Through educational management, everything related to the management process of education is done to achieve the goal of organization either for short, mid, or long term goals. School based management has several characteristics to empower many things, such as: small group formation, transfer of responsibility, leader made of participant, teacher as a facilitator, a democratic process and flexible relationship. Everything in school- based management is decided based on mutual understanding among the equal participant through a democratic way. Through school-based management it is hoped that headmasters, teachers, administrative staffs and also society can implement the education based on the era development and characteristic of the environment as well as the demand of global education.

Abstract

Salah satu bentuk inovasi pembelajaran yang dilakukan oleh guru adalah dengan merancang media seven in one. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang dirancang dengan menggunakan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran yang terbuat dari kotak catur yaitu seven in one. Data diperoleh dari lembar validasi dan angket diolah dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif untuk mengetahui kelayakan dan kepraktisan penggunaan media seven in one. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penilaian dari ahli media baik dari aspek bahan dan aspek pemanfaatan yaitu dengan persentase masing-masing 100% dan 96,9%. Demikian juga penilaian dari ahli materi yaitu dengan persentase 100% yang menunjukkan kriteria sangat valid. Pengembangan media seven in one ditinjau dari uji kepraktisan dinyatakan praktis untuk diterapkan pada siswa kelas V MI/SD berdasarkan beberapa indikator yaitu: Indikator kemudahan, kejelasan, kesesuian, tampilan, dan kemenarikan. Masing-masing memperoleh persentasenya 87,1%, 87,1%, 89,2%, 90,8%, dan 90,85%. Demikian juga halnya respon guru terhadap indikator kemudahan, kejelasan, kesesuian, tampilan, dan kemenarikan. Masing-masing memperoleh persentasenya 97,5%, 92,5%, 97,5 %, 77,5%, dan 96,2%.

Abstract

As a means of communication among the nations of the world, especially the unity of Muslims worldwide, Arabic occupies a strategic position because it can support the understanding of the religion of Islam itself. Abstract

The quality of education is determined by teacher performance. While report shows that teacher performance is satisfactory, on the other hand, the quality of education in Aceh is desperate. The purpose of this study is to describe the creativity of certified teachers in utilizing learning media in MIN 2 Banda Aceh. The type of this research is qualitative and the subjects of this study were certified teachers and school principal. The data collection technique is through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analysed by Miles and Huberman's theory. The results of this research showed that there are four types of teacher creativities in utilizing learning media at MIN 2 Banda Aceh. First, fluency in thinking, teachers have the initiative in preparing learning media. Second, the flexibility of thinking, teachers use variety of learning medias in teaching. Third is originality, teachers’ innovation in preparing and using learning media. Fourth, elaboration, teachers and students collaborate in preparing learning media. The more creative the certified teacher in utilizing learning media, the more motivations in learning the students get. Thus, it improves student’s learning outcomes that contributes to the school quality and accreditation. Therefore, the teacher needs to be given further assistance so that the teacher can create and develop learning media with students, not only using the media that is already available.
