Gondang is a Journal of Art and Cultural for information and communication resources for academics, and observers of Art and Culture, Performing Arts, Educational Arts, Methodology of Art and Cultural. The published paper is the result of research, reflection, and actual critical study with respect to the themes of Art and Culture. All papers are peer-reviewed by at least two referees. The scope of Gondang is the Science of Art and Culture. Published twice a year (June and December) and first published for print edition in June 2017.

Abstract

Tjong Sce Yin (founder of the first music school in Medan) and Tjong A Fie Mansion (the first school house in Medan) with the name of Medan Music School renamed the Pure Music Institute (LMM) and now renamed the Conservatory Music Medan. In addition to the above three things, also can not be separated from some non-formal music education institutions that organize classical music education in Medan that is Melody Music Studio (Musical Field), Musika Era, Music Rhythm and Institute of Music Education (LPM) Farabi Medan .

Abstract

This study used qualitative methods with participant observer to study Continuity and change of Ende Book and Yamuger's Song of the Church is an integral part of church music. Continuity and change by using synchronic and historical diachronic theory. To study the structure of music used the theory of weighted scale, rhythm, and the relationship of music with text. To study the text used semiotic theory. The origins of song and melody texts are from the German Protestant congregation, which is then translated into Batak (Ende's Book) and Indonesian (Yamunger's Song of the Church). On the other hand, there are also direct translations that give rise to differences of etymological and semantic meaning between these three types of chanting. In the context of sosioreligious, Batak language has been very fulfilled into a language of religious choice in worship, to strengthen the social sentiments that cause the emergence of religious emotions and the attainment of the inner atmosphere of the congregation. Among young people the phenomenon above is true, but not in all places or locations of the support community, so the doubt about its loyalty to Ende's Book is undoubtedly not a latent danger. Social sentiment that causes the emergence of religious emotion is still considered strong, but it is expected that there will be a system that will be a benchmark to be able to stay awake.

Abstract

Contemporary music emerges as a contemporary development in the journey of the art of music. Contemporary is regarded as a way to respond to the present, or the latest cultivation pattern or also one of the working attitude of art that is involved. Although later, the development of contemporary music that many raises questions about the existence of contemporary music in Indonesia. Contemporary music is increasingly pervasive and spreads unstoppable among the contemporary definition of bergamnya itself. In a celebration performed by young people of Medan, by presenting the work of music in accordance with their perspective. It seems clear that contemporary terminology is not able to stem the desire to work of the young generation, which shows a side that is still related to the culture of the country itself and still describes the characteristics of Indonesian culture.

Abstract

The study aims at understanding and analyzing (a) understanding of the terminology of the composition and method of cultivation so that the terms of composition and arrangement can be understood contextually, (b) the mustering of Minangkabau musical idioms developed using Western elements and instruments to become a work of music; (c) Adapting Minangkabau karawitan to Western music concepts in a musical work in Karawitan ISI Padangpanjang. This research is field work, field includes observation, interview, and recording. Work in the laboratory includes processing, selecting, and filtering field data. The method used is qualitative method verivikatif begins with data collection both field, interview, and library then looking for theoretical approach to analyze the data that have been obtained. The results of the analysis show (a) The existence of inappropriate perception of the term compositional terms to be confused with the term arrangement. Cultivation works tend to be done collectively, not purely from the creativity of the owner of the work, but the work of the music on behalf of a person alone. (b) There is the use of Western musical elements and instruments in musical works in the form of harmonious harmonies, homophonic textures and polyphony and the use of flute instruments, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drum set. (c) Minangkabau Karawitan adapts to Western music in an academic context, in ISI Padangpanjang on musical forms.

Abstract

The concept of beauty (aesthetic) as a central issue to reveal the meaningfulness of the value of a form of art or artwork, can not be done by generalizing. The emergence of the phenomenon of art with the term Sema in the Sufi order Naqsybandi Haqqani Jakarta can certainly be assumed as a transformation of the values of Tauhid education based on the aesthetic concept of Sufism in the domain of Islam, because the existence of Sufi orders in general only offer spiritual teachings (aims) to achieve purification of Tawheed. This research is included in qualitative paradigm with phenomenology approach. Through this research it is revealed that the love of divinity or platonic love based on Tawheed (esoteric) is the aesthetic concept of the Naqsybandi Sema tariqa Haqqani Jakarta as the manifestation of the consciousness of the perpetrators, which is awakened through spiritual training in the tarekat. Sema in the Naqsybandi Haqqani Order of Jakarta is also known to play the role of educational media in instilling the values of Tawheed through its beautiful symbols (exoteric) and meaningful Ketauhidan.
