Abstract

In some countries, character education has been conducted and became an integrated part of the education system since the early stage. Unfortunately character education in Indonesia has not been fully considered and integrated with formal education system yet. This article will review the importance of character education in formal education system. The review begins with the examples of benefit gained through the implementation of character education in some countries. This article also shows the effort done by the Industrial Engineering Department at Petra Christian University to design and implement an integrated and systematic character education's curriculum for its student. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Pendidikan karakter di beberapa negara sudah mendapatkan prioritas sejak pendidikan dasar dimulai. Namun di Indonesia, pendidikan karakter masih dipandang sebagai wacana dan belum menjadi bagian yang terintegrasi dalam pendidikan formal. Artikel ini membahas tentang pentingnya pendidikan karakter dalam sistem pendidikan formal. Dimulai dengan melihat contoh manfaat pendidikan karakter di negara lain seperti Amerika dan Cina. Kemudian, dilanjutkan dengan usaha-usaha yang dilakukan oleh Jurusan Teknik Industri UK Petra untuk merancang pendidikan karakter yang sistematis dan terintegrasi dalam kurikulum bagi mahasiswa sebagai persiapan menuju ke dunia kerja. Usaha tersebut antara lain penetapan pendidikan karakter sebagai salah satu rencana strategis jurusan, penetapan tim, perancangan dan pelaksanaan program pendidikan karakter, evaluasi, serta usaha perbaikan terus menerus. Kata kunci: pendidikan karakter, perancangan dan pelaksanaan program.

Abstract

The development of renewable energy technologies (RETs) has moved forward significantly; while the current environmental problems that some attribute to, among others, the combustion of fossil fuels to produce energy has contributed to the attractiveness these technologies. In some instances, governments support RETS and have put in place subsidies to encourage people and companies to implement or use them. Companies have responded to this as it not only brings monetary savings from using energy efficiently but can also be valuable for their image as more and more consumers are becoming environmentally conscious. Many companies have decided to take a similar route and is interested in using RETS and other environmentally friendly technologies to meet its energy requirements. The report has addressed the issue of looking at the technical and financial feasibility of installing some or all of the identified renewable energy technologies (wind energy and solar thermal), and has been structured in line with the following approach. In this report, the following approach/preliminary assessment method based on Investment Costs, O & M Costs, Operational hours/year, Ease of Installation, O&M Procedures, Social Acceptability, Greenness of technology.

Abstract

Cellular manufacturing system design problems such as design framework, manufacturing cells layout and layout evaluation. The research objective is developing the framework to designing manufacturing cells with considering the organization and management aspects in shopfloor. In this research have compared the existing layout with proposed layout which applied the multi criteria approach. The proposed method is combining Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Clustering and heuristic approach. The result has show that grouping with Single Linkage Clustering (SLC) to be selected as manufacturing cells. The comparison of clustering weight is 0,567, 0,245 and 0,188 for SLC, Complete Linkage Clustering (CLC) and Average Linkage Clustering (ALC), respectively. This result shows that generating layout by using grouping result from SLC. The evaluation result shows that types of manufacturing cells better than process layout which used the existing system.

Abstract

The globalization era along with fast development of technology%2C industries must try to increase the quantity and quality of products that they have produced. The development of industrial products which have been increase continually need support from fluency of production process. In this case the industrial companies want a high availability system. PD Industri Unit Inkaba is one of the companies that moves in sector rubber technique industry. The company wants the production process go smoothly so that the company can keeps the existence and increases the product’s quality with cost efficiency and can competes with foreign markets. The smoothness of production process needs support from machines or production’s tools that have good condition. To keep the machines in good condition so that they will in the optimal condition when used%2C then the machines need to be maintained. M.A.J. Smith dan R. Dekker develop a model that combine availability model and preventive maintenance and consider the expected uptime and downtime of the system. This model is a 1 out of n system model%2C which has one operating machine and support by (n – 1) unit machine reserves. A 1 out of n system is also applicable to replaceable components. Smith and Dekker’s model gives the expected uptime and downtime of the system approximation that can gives good approximation of long term average operating cost. The results from decision of component preventive replacement age and optimal number of component reserve are expected to be able to keep the reliability system and be able to avoid the decease of availability system because of maintenance activity. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Dalam era persaingan industri yang semakin global disertai perkembangan teknologi yang pesat%2C industri-industri terus berusaha meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas produk yang dihasilkannya. Perkembangan hasil industri yang semakin meningkat secara terus-menerus memerlukan dukungan proses produksi yang lancar. Dalam hal ini perusahaan industri menginginkan availabilitas sistem yang tinggi. PD Industri Unit Inkaba merupakan salah satu perusahaan yang bergerak dalam bidang industri barang teknik karet. Perusahaan menginginkan agar proses produksinya berjalan dengan lancar agar mampu mempertahankan eksistensinya dan meningkatkan kualitas produk serta efisiensi biaya agar mampu bersaing dengan pasar luar negeri. Kelancaran proses produksi membutuhkan dukungan mesin-mesin atau peralatan produksi yang berada dalam kondisi yang baik. Untuk menjaga kondisi dari mesin-mesin tersebut agar berada dalam keadaan yang optimal saat digunakan%2C maka diperlukan kegiatan perawatan pada mesin-mesin tersebut. M.A.J. Smith dan R. Dekker mengembangkan suatu model yang menggabungkan model availabilitas dan model perawatan pencegahan dengan memperhatikan uptime dan downtime dari sistem. Model ini merupakan model 1 out of n system%2C yaitu sebuah model yang terdiri dari satu mesin yang beroperasi dan didukung oleh (n-1) unit mesin cadangan. Model 1 out of n system juga dapat diaplikasikan pada komponen-komponen mesin. Model Smith dan Dekker memberikan perkiraan uptime dan downtime sistem sehingga dapat diperoleh perkiraan yang baik untuk rata-rata biaya operasi dalam jangka waktu panjang. Abstract

High-level process planning plays an important role in determining candidate process domains at the configuration design stage. Changing the process domains later increases the product development cycle and the product development cost. Therefore, determining the most appropriate manufacturing processes at the beginning stages of the design process becomes critical. However, high-level process planning systems have traditionally lacked integration of design synthesis and design evaluation. The objective of this paper is to propose a CAD-based high-level process planning system that will help designers decide whether or not the designs are worth pursuing. A hybrid approach incorporating design by feature and feature recognition approaches is proposed and implemented. Synergizing both advantages of both approaches will reduce the complexity of feature recognition algorithm without sacrificing the flexibility in creating a part model.

Abstract

Mofularity design has been applied in many European countries, especially in industrial assembling and manufacturing. Modularity design cause manufacture process and assembly process easier and cheaper. Many industries in Indonesia usually doing corrective maintenance or preventive maintenance. So, in this research, modularity design will be applied in preventive maintenance in fish mill Indonesian factory. In this research, corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance cost will be compared to preventive maintenance cost using modularity design. From the research, the application of preventive maintenance using modularity design reduces cost up to 35.98% from the initial condition (corrective maintenance) Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Modularity design telah banyak diterapkan di negara-negara Eropa terutama dalam hal perakitan dan manufaktur di bidang industri. Modularity design menyebabkan proses manufaktur dan perakitannya lebih sederhana dan murah. Perusahaan-perusahaan di Indonesia biasanya lebih banyak melakukan kegiatan corrective maintenance atau preventive mainternance. Dalam penelitian ini, modularity design dicoba diterapkan dalam kegiatan preventive maintenance di perusahaan tepung ikan di Indonesia. Pada penelitian ini dibandingkan biaya yang diperlukan untuk kegiatan corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance dan preventive maintenance dengan modularity design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan penerapan preventive maintenance dengan modularity design dapat menurunkan biaya sebesar 35,98% dari keadaan awal (corrective maintenance). Kata kunci: corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, modularity design.

Abstract

Concept of entrepreneurship has been widely debated whether to be an entrepreneur one need to get formal entrepreneurial education or not. Most of the formal entrepreneur education yield the same flaw, which is the lack of teaching soft skill and building the necessary entrepreneurship characteristics. Intention-based models of entrepreneurship education try to fill the gap by focusing the education on the human intention of becoming entrepreneur by defining four model of entrepreneurship education. An empirical research is conducted to show simple application on defining and understanding the model where the result could be used for giving some insight on constructing the appropriate model for entrepreneurship education in the future.

Abstract

Product reliability improvement projects have shown promising results for industries to preserve customer satisfaction. Therefore, best practices on reliability improvement in industries that operate in high volume consumer product can be used as a reference toward managing product reliability improvement. In reliability improvement the method should not only focus on how to achieve the expected deliverable but also to sustain the improvement itself and to close the improvement loop. The importance of managing product reliability improvement is on how to ensure that the project moves to the right direction without loosing its flexibility.

Abstract

Many business and economic time series are non-stationary time series that contain trend and seasonal variations. Seasonality is a periodic and recurrent pattern caused by factors such as weather, holidays, or repeating promotions. A stochastic trend is often accompanied with the seasonal variations and can have a significant impact on various forecasting methods. In this paper, we will investigate and compare some forecasting methods for modeling time series with both trend and seasonal patterns. These methods are Winter's, Decomposition, Time Series Regression, ARIMA and Neural Networks models. In this empirical research, we study on the effectiveness of the forecasting performance, particularly to answer whether a complex method always give a better forecast than a simpler method. We use a real data, that is airline passenger data. The result shows that the more complex model does not always yield a better result than a simpler one. Additionally, we also find the possibility to do further research especially the use of hybrid model by combining some forecasting method to get better forecast, for example combination between decomposition (as data preprocessing) and neural network model.
