Abstract

The goal is this research to see the symbols of figurative language and to analyze the meaning and significance of symbols figurative language in the wedding ceremony manjapuik marapulai in Paninjauan village, Tanah Datar district, West Sumatera. The research employs qualitative study using content analysis (symbolic) and analysis of Roland Barthes semiology be the significance of the two stages (two orders of signification) denotation and connotation, as well as mythical as the development of connotation. The study found that symbols contained in panitahan at a ceremony manjapuik marapulai conform with values and philosophy of Minang adopted by local community. Symbols are included in the 15 sentences that comes from nature, conform with the philosophy of alam takambang manjadi guru as the sentence Tantangan kato ayam lai barinduak, which is a lesson from nature that chickens need of parent in guiding his life as well as humans who need parents in shows about customs. One sentence that comes to the religious teachings of Islam: Adat badiri di nan patuik, syarak mamakai pado dalil, limbago duduak bajauahan, tarapak sambah ka tangah, taunjuak ka muko rapek, the doctrine greeting to people who attend an event. Then 11 sentences that comes to tradition, philosophy, ideology and ethics of society as a sentence Pusako duduak di nan rapek, kato surang dibulati, kato basamo dipaiyo, direnjeang kato jo mupakat which is the ideology of the people in Paninjauan village that is discussion.

Abstract

The study of the audience is one of the key studies in communication science. Audience studies are growing along with the development of communication technology itself, from face to face communication to the use of digital technologies in communications. The audience can not be separated from its context as a member of society and social environment. Therefore it can be understood that many factors influence the process of framing the audience (frames) an issue of the media, not only from personal knowledge and experience possessed by individual audience itself, but also other factors of the environment such as the opinion of a reference group in which the individual also be part of technology use in accessing the media. The process of forming a frame issue in the minds of the audience referred to as the process of framing by the audience (audience framing).

Abstract

This research aims at identifying inclusive social capital on communication network in the disaster preparedness of Merapi explosion in 2010 by operating concepts of communication network, social capital and disaster mitigation. The objects are local people in one of villages in Merapi mountain in Central Jawa. This research used positivistical paradigm using quantitative data and supported by qualitative data. The result shows that there are four inclusive social capitals in the communication network of Merapi: (1) relation with volunteer (2) relations with SAR team and NGO; (3) relation with local government and (4) and traditional relation with Yogyakarta Kingdom. In addition, the interpretaion of inclusive social capital is the existence of reciprocal feedback form local people. Inclusive social capital has facilitated information flow on disaster preparedness, influencing agent that has role as decision maker and supporting individual credibility to get access of resources and as identity builder and Inclusive social capital is recognition of local people. This research has not found yet Inclusive social capital in term of relation between local people and university institution who has many resources to build disaster preparedness.

Abstract

This article would like to present Michel Foucault’s idea concerning Knowledge and Power in media industry. As a contemporary intellectual, Foucault’s thought has a unique style of postmodernism. His thought had gone beyond traditional critical theory whose trying to disclose the relation of power and economic behind the ideology of media. Foucault’s thought had given new perspective in understanding how the media produce truth under tightly control process into something that seems normal. With the assumption of media has the power to create mass culture, which has to be studied critically by media literacy approach, Foucault’s thought had given new space of discursive. An alternative thought on how to estimate the work of mass media as supervisor of truth and creator of information trough normalization practice.

Abstract

Communication and information technology development makes it easier for interaction between individuals and groups. Message and news traffic are not fully controlled by the state, but are free to flow to public. Therefore, social media that have power to disseminate information, be an option to influence, motivate, and perform actions desired by message spreaders. At the same time, dominance of mainstream mass media is fading away. This study aims to: (1) describe social media users without socioeconomic and political differences, (2) analyze social media and mass media efforts to reach audiences, (3) observe social media as a supporter of political communication networks in democracy state. This study, using qualitative methods to provide a holistic picture of social media in relation to the political communication network utilized by individuals, groups and various political entities. The results of this study are, users of social media are not bound by social, economic and political status;  Social media and mainstream mass media have different characters in spreading messages to audiences; And social media is a supporting of political communication network in democracy of the state.

Abstract

The paper aims to analyze process of communication audit in WALHI Yogyakarta organization to increase organization systems to improve organization effectiveness using information of organization theory and qualitative descriptive method. The research found that the process of implementation communication audit of organization in WALHI Yogyakarta works quite well as demonstrated by the five units of analysis: organization, content of information, management of organization, communication processes or activities of communication, and feedback. Of the five unit of analysis it is found that openness factor vertically or horizontally has a big role in improving the performance of an organization’s success. Another factor is the role of communication technology to simplify and accelerate the delivery of information internally. Media written or printed or electronic media is used in support of this organization. Communication audit implemented in every organization will improve the performance of organization.

Abstract

Credibility of website especially on trading market is important for shareholders to get stockexchange information. Websites are the extension of organization that could attract business’s target market and potential customer. However, previous studies found that usability, design, and content may affect the website credibility.  Many stock exchange markets such as Nigerian/NSE, Baku/BSE, Irish/ISE, Mauritus/SEM including Securities and Exchange Commission/SEC concerned and improve about their website. This study aims to observe variable of usability, design and content which affect website credibility on Indonesia context especially with idx.co.id as a treatment. This reaserch method using quasi-experiment with 30 participants with the equivalent time-samples design and adopting Bipolar Emotional Response Testing (BERT), this study found that website credibility was explained about 51.6% by usability, design, and information variables. Moreover, information variable contributed bigger than other two variables while usability variable did not contribute significantly. Specifically, information variable become important for the credibility of website which did not have transaction feature.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the contestation commodification and mass media Muhammadiyah ideology. Television media industry is a capital intensive industry types. This compares with the strength to build a perception in society, resulting in the attraction of various interests disana.Pada generally a television station is affected by the strength of the owner, the advertising, and rating. One local TV station, ADiTV, has the additional element that also affects the identity tayangannya Muhammadiyah, as its founder. In this study, using a qualitative descriptive. Through descriptive method will be able to explain the phenomenon in detail and presents a more detailed analysis that can not afford revealed by quantitative methods. The identity of a television media is very important to determine the standard of impressions and development of the company in the long term. Ambiguity status Muhammadiyah TV ADiTV whether or not can be detrimental for both parties ADiTV either alone or Muhammadiyah. ADiTV losses include the whole range ADiTV can not freely determine the policy, especially pertaining to the propaganda value of Muhammadiyah

Abstract

Soft core pornography became kind of pornographic on Indonesia movies. The rise of pornography led eventually chose enforce state laws Pornography, which is then invited a lot of controversy. Disagreements about pornography makes research on audience reception of the Indonesian film pornographic contents, as well as research on audience reception against pornography on movie of Mafia Insyaf and Rintihan Kuntilanak Perawan. Reception analysis obtained using the following results: the informants tend to be in a negotiating position by stating that the Mafia Insyaf and Rintihan Kuntilanak Perawan are films that can be categorized as soft core pornography.
