Abstract

 AbstractThis research aimed at knowing the effect of using TPS learning model with ICM media toward student chemistry learning achievement on Hydrocarbon lesson at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 2 Rumbiojaya. It was instigated by the low of student chemistry learning achievement on Hydrocarbon lesson at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 2 Rumbiojaya. It was a Quasi-experiment with pretest and posttest design. Two classes of the tenth-grade students owning the same homogeneity level were the samples, the tenth grade of classes 2 was as the experimental group and class 3 was as the control group, and Purposive sampling technique was used. Observation, homogeneity test as the preliminary data test, pretest and posttest as the final data test, and documentation were the techniques of collecting the data.  t test used to analyze the final data showed that tobserved was 2.038 and ttable was 2.00 at 5% significant level.  It meant that tobserved was higher than ttable, H0 was rejected, and Ha was accepted.  It revealed that there was an effect of using TPS learning model with ICM media toward student learning achievement on Hydrocarbon lesson and the coefficient of effect was 8.6%.Keywords : Think Pair Share, Index Card Match, Learning Achievement, Hydrocarbon.

Abstract

This research is motivated by students less active participation and less interested in the learning process so that the low student learning outcomes are marked by the number of students who have not reached the Minimum Completion Criteria (in Indonesian: KKM). This research was a Quasi-experiment aiming at knowing the effect of using Guided Inquiry learning model with Quipper School toward student learning achievement at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 2 Pangkalan Kerinci.  Random sampling technique was used in this research. There were two sample classes, the tenth grade students of class MIPA 2 as the experimental group and MIPA 3 as the control group. ObservatiPon, test, and documentation were the techniques of collecting the data. t-test was used to find the research finding of student chemistry learning achievement. Based on the result of final data processed, it was obtained that tobserved was 2.79 and ttable was 1.66, it showed that tobserved was higher thanttable. It revealed that there was an effect toward learning achievement that Kp was 10.3%. Thus, it could be concluded that the use of Guided Inquiry learning model with Quipper School affected positively student learning achievement on Periodic System of the Elements material at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 2 Pangkalan Kerinci. Keywords: Guided Inquiry Learning Model, Quipper School, Learning Achievement, Periodic System of the Elements

Abstract

The  present  study  was  encouraged  by  the  low  learning  outcomes  of  students  at  MAN  1  Pekanbaru that  were  influenced  by  the  lack  of  students’  participation  during  learning  process  and  caused teacher-centered  learning.  This  study  was  a  quasi-experimental  research  with  Pretest-Posttest Control  Group  design.  It  aimed  at  investigating the  effect  of  implementing  learning  model  “Guided Inquiry-Based  Portfolio  Assessment”  on  students’  chemistry  learning  outcomes  in  colloid  topic  at XI  Grade  of  State  Islamic  Senior  High  School  1  Pekanbaru.  Afterwards,  the  samples  of  this  study were  students  of  XI  Science  2  class  as  an  experimental  class  and  XI  Science  3  as  a  control  class taken  through  simple  random  sampling  from  all  students  of  XI  Science  classes  in  academic  year 2015/2016  as  population.  In  addition,  the  data  was  collected  by  using  tests  including  homogeneity test  as  the  preliminary  data  in  the  previous  materials  and  pretests  and  posttests  as  the  last  data, documentation,  and  observation.  Then,  the  data  were  analyzed  by  using  t-test.  As  the  result,  it  was obtained  that  tobtained  =2.880  and  ttable  =2.000  in  significance  level  5%.  Therefore,  it  showed  that tobtained  ≥  ttable  so  that  Ho  was  rejected  and  Ha  was  accepted  which  indicated  that  there  was  an  effect of  implementing  learning  model  “Guided  Inquiry-Based  Portfolio  Assessment”  on  students’ chemistry  learning  outcomes  in  colloid  topic  at  XI  Grade  of  State  Islamic  Senior  High  School  1 Pekanbaru with  influence  coefficient  12.5%. Abstract

Abstract This research aimed to know which ones produce the solvent a clear color change, precision and accuracy of its use, and can be used as natural indicator a substitute for synthesis indicator. Extraction method used was maceration for 24 hours with solvent of aquadest and ethanol 96% plus 1% concentrated HCl. Determination of pH trajectory using the analysis of color change in the solution of buffer and change the wavelength by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The feasibility of natural indicator as alternatively substitution of synthesis indicator was assessed through a questionnaire by high school teachers Pekanbaru. Results showed that the trajectory of pH indicator natural from 3.92 to 4.91, the resulting color change was very stark contrast, the pink-purple, precision level of 0.251 and accuracy of 2.58%. Percentage of questionnaires showed a very clear titration discoloration of 85.71%, discoloration of natural indicator titration than synthetic was very clear 85.71%, security of natural indicator for environments was very secure 71.43%, the ratio of security with synthesis indicator was very secure 85.71%, its use as a determinant endpoint can greatly 85.71% , its comparison with the synthesis of 71,43% clear in determining the endpoint. Abstract

AbstractAcetosolv process is one of making pulp alternative which friendly environmental. Making pulp of banana stem with a solution of acetic acid cooking (CH3COOH) and catalyst sulfate acid (H2SO4) are expected to take place simultaneously, either delignification process or degradation of polisakarida. The variable process is looked in this research is concentration of acetic acid (70%-wt, 80%-wt, 90-wt%) with cooking time (1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours), whereas constant variabel in this research in liquid to solid ratio (20/1), concentration catalyst (0.6%-wt), and measure of raw materials (±1,5cm). The result of the study exhibit banana stem may become as raw material in making pulp which using acetosolv. Yield pulp around 50.64 % -57.13% with content of lignin pulp 12.5% -19.42%, and content of cellulose pulp 80,85%-82,28%, which is variation according to process. The best condition which produce yield with high cellulose level and low lignin are gotten at concentration of cooking 90%-wt with time of cooking 3 hours. The result shows that banana stem pulp have yield of 50.64%, lignin 12.5% and cellulose 87.49%. Implementation knowledge of student senior high school 1 Tembilahan to exploiting banana stem in making pulp categorized as "very good" because the final results show the percentage obtained 86.78% which lies in the range of 81% -100%, this percentage is in the category of "very good ''. Keywords:  Banana stem, Acetosolv, Yield pulp, Lignin, Cellulose, Implementation.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study is to produce character on chemistry module which is valid and practical. Type of this study is a research and development (R&D) research using Borg and Gall’s study design which covers the potential and problems, data collection, product design, validation design, revision design, and product trials. This study was conducted in Darul Hikmah Islamic High School, Darel Hikmah Vocational High School and Taruna Satria Pekanbaru Vocational High School. The subject of this study is all of the teachers in chemistry subject which consists of five teachers. The object of this study is character-based discipline pillar on chemistry module. The data from questionnaires. The instruments of this study were try-out validity questionnaires and practical questionnaires. The collecting data technique of this study was descriptive analysis technique. The module data was validated with average 88.6% (valid) and data tried-out to five chemistry teachers practicallited was tested with average 87.6% (practical). Based on the result finding, this study could be identified that character-based on chemistry learning is suitable and practical so can be applied for chemistry education  especially on atomic structures and periodic components.Keywords: module, character education, atomic structures, periodic components

Abstract

The research on the application of banana skin (Musa Paradisiaca) has been done as a production of natural battery paste.  This research is aimed at to see the voltage, light flame, and the endurance that are produced by two varieties of the banana skins. the banana skins that are utilized are the skins of Berangan banana and Kepok banana. Each of the mass samples is 5 grams. In the research, the addition of salt is performed. The KCl salt with different mass is conducted: 0.75; 1; 1.25; 1.5; 1.75 and 2 grams until it reached 1.5-1.8 volts of voltage. The addition of salt is done to gain a more optimum voltage. The result indicates that the Berangan banana skin has better voltage and endurance comparing to Kepok banana. The voltage that is generated by Berangan banana skin is 1.17 volts with the endurance time of 4 days. After being added with the salt, the voltage increased to 1.54 volts and the endurance of 11 days. For Kepok banana, it is generated 1.00 volts with the endurance time of 3 days. After the salt addition, the voltage increases to 1.52 volts with the endurance of 7 days. The questionnaire of teacher’s evaluation about the research result as learning sources at voltage cells practicum gives a cumulative score of 93.75% which is categorized very good.                                                                                    Keywords: banana skin battery paste, battery, banana skin, voltage, electrolyte.

Abstract

Abstract The difficulties of preservice chemistry teacher in understanding theoretical and experimental chemistry were needed to be explored. This research was conducted to analyze students' difficulties in understanding theoretical and experimental chemistry courses, to obtained information that can be used as an evaluation for lecturers and faculty in an effort to improve the quality of preservice chemistry teacher. Mixed method with embedded design was used in this research by given priority to qualitative data as core and quantitative data to supported the analysis. This research found that teoretical inorganic and physical chemistry objects were the most difficult course for fifth semester students, whereas for the seventh graders physical and instrumental chemistry was the most difficult. The main causes of difficulty for students was the chemical abstractions plus the mathematic analysis that was not easily to deep understood by the students. Studets learning patterns and learning design are things that need to be improve to get better results. Kata Kunci: Kesulitan Mahasiswa, Kimia Teoritis, Praktikum Kimia

Abstract

This study aims to determine the accuracy of the concept used in Senior High school Chemistry textbooks grade XI that is used in the city of Bogor, especially on solubility concept. The research was conducted by surveying the titles of textbooks used by teachers and students in 10 senior high schools in Bogor city. The three books most widely used by the 10 schools were analyzed for the accuracy of the concept description compared to the content of four university chemistry textbooks on materials related to solubility and solubility products. The results of the analysis were validated by 2 experts. The result of the analysis of three textbooks in circulation indicates the imprecision of concept description and potentially lead to misconception.

Abstract

 AbstractThis research is motivated by chemistry exam of the odd semester in the school year of 2015/2016 which has not been validated. It is aimed at finding out the compatibility of semester exam reviewing from qualitative and quantitative. The techniques of data collections are interview and documentation. The data sources are multiple choice semester exam questions, students’ answer sheets, answer keys, question overview, lesson plan, and syllabus. The result of research is found that 12 questions of SMA and 11 questions of MA which is not compatible with the aspect being reviewed. The other result of research is found that SMA questions have the reliability of 0.5764 and MA as much as 0.80. By empirical validity, there are 25 SMA questions and 18 MA questions which are invalid. This research implication is all items of question must validated to know the quality of that items. Keywords: Chemistry education, Question Item Analysis
