UPAYA MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS GEGURITAN BERDASARKAN CERKAK MELALUI PENERAPAN METODE MIND MAPPING (PETA PIKIRAN) Puspita, Oktaviani Windra

This research aims to improve the learning quality and short story-based geguritan (poetry Japanese language) writing skill of the IX A graders of SMP Negeri 26 Surakarta using mind mapping method. This study was taken place in the XI A grade. The research strategy used was a descriptive qualitative one; the subject of research was the students and teachers; the data source of research included short story-based geguritan writing learning process event, teacher and students, as well as relevant document. Techniques of collecting data used in this research were interview, observation, document analysis, test, and documentation. The data validation tests used in this research were method triangulation, source triangulation and informant review. Technique of analyzing data used was a critical-comparative analytical descriptive one. The result of research showed that the quality of short story-based geguritan writing learning of the IX A graders of SMP Negeri 26 Surakarta improved significantly. It could be seen from the mean value of student performance observation sheet of 59.30% in cycle I, 84.87% in cycle II, 90.60% in cycle III, and the mean value of teacher performance of 66.70 in cycle I, 82.14% in cycle II, and 88.90% in cycle III . The short story-based geguritan writing skill of the IX A graders of SMP Negeri 26 Surakarta also improved significantly. It was indicated by the geguritan writing, mean class, and classical passing the IX A graders had achieved. The mean score of geguritan writing skill test in cycle I was 68.00% with passing of 46.42%. In cycle II, it increased to 75.10% with passing degree of 71.42% and in cycle III it increased to 82.82% with passing degree of 85.71%.

Karya tulis ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap unsur-unsur pencitraan orientalis kolonial dalam kisah petualangan Mowgli dalam novel The Jungle Book karya Rudyard Kipling. Teori yang digunakan ialah teori wacana pasca-kolonial yang didasari dari buku Orientalism karya Edward Said. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui cara close reading yang kemudian data-data temuan yang dianggap relevan didokumentasikan. Metode analisis data dilakukan dengan cara textual analysis, yaitu dengan cara melakukan kajian naratif rasional sesuai dengan argumen-argumen yang ada di dalam teori pasca-kolonial Edward Said dan tujuan penelitian. Citra orientalis kolonialis yang terdapat dalam The Jungle Book hadir dalam penokohan dan latar sebagaimana diceritakan di dalam karya tersebut.

This study aims to describe the kinship system of Balinese in novel Tarian Bumi by Oka Rusmini, and uses literary anthropology approach. In analyzing the cultural elements particularly the kinship system of the Balinese in the novel, this study uses descriptive interpretative method by presenting it in description technique. The data were collected from reading and noting technique, and analyzed by using literary anthropology approach with content analysis model. Content analysis was done through inference, analysis, validity and reliability. The results show that the kinship system of Balinese is Patriliniel and Sekasta kinship system. This relationship is clearly illustrated by Telaga descendans of Brahmins who married to Sudra man and became a disgrace and catastrophe for the family. The Sekasta marriage system is opposed by Telaga by marrying a man who was not a descendant of Brahmins. As a result, Telaga is declared out of its Dadia (Brahminâs family temple). Telaga followed her husband as a Sudra woman as well as his descendants because of the Patrilineal kinship system that governs the lives of Balinese.

All of the literature studies are related to the activity of interpretation. One of literature types that can be interpreted is poetry. To interpret a poem can involve the role of heuristics and hermeneutics concept. This study used several poems contained in the book of poetry Deru Campur Debu by Chairil Anwar. The problems of this study, namely 1) How do heuristic and hermeneutic reading on the poem of Chairil Anwar, and 2) What are the meaning of language and literature contained in the poem of Chairil Anwar. Heuristic and hermeneutic readings are the method to analyze literary works by using semiotic approach. Semiotics is a term that refers to the same thing that is the sign science. The relationship between signifier and signified included, icons, indices, and symbols. The results of this study are as follows: 1. In the sixth poems of Chairil Anwar always brings the themes of freedom, rebellion and adventure that are the expression of Chairils characteristic himself. 2. This research is an attempt to reveal the portrait of early twentieth century American women in Southern America in WilliamsÃ¢â¬â¢ plays The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire. There are three objectives of the research, namely the efforts of American women to survive after they cannot depend on others any longer, their basic reasons to do their efforts, and how they do the efforts in order to continue their lives. Using the literary sociology, the three objectives of the research are discussed in the two plays as the main sources and the criticisms and the social condition in America in the early twentieth century as the secondary sources. The result of the research shows that the early twentieth century American women in Southern America make some efforts in order to survive after the decline of Old South tradition.  There are a lot of changes, including social and cultural values.  They, however, cannot adapt themselves in the society and they still keep their old values.  Consequently, they are not successful.  By looking for men to become their husbands, they try to survive.  They actually want to save their lives physically and economically, even though they want to keep their values.

CafÃ© talk represents casual conversation that is usually taken for granted by people. This study is intended to reveal patterns of exchange structures underlying cafÃ© talk. To achieve the objective of the study, the writer applies Francis and Hunstonâs model of analysis (1992). Participatory observation is the technique used to collect the data. The method of analysis used in this study is referential method. Based on the analysis, it is found that there are 21 patterns constructing 1459 exchanges found in the data. Of the 1459 exchanges, 10 exchanges are found in organizational exchange category, and 1449 exchanges are found in conversational exchange category. Inform exchange, elicit exchange, and bound-elicit clarify exchange from conversational exchange category are the most prominent exchanges found in the data.

Penelitian ini dimulai dari munculnya masalah perbedaan solidaritas dalam novel Out. Wanita tidak lagi sosok pasif, menunggu, dan menjadi objek untuk memuaskan laki-laki. Dalam hal ini, upaya peneliti untuk mengungkap bagaimana solidaritas yang ada di kalangan perempuan, tujuan atau aspek yang ingin berjuang untuk, dan mengungkap kompleksitas solidaritas di kalangan wanita. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori feminis yang dikembangkan oleh Simone de Beauviour. Kompleksitas solidaritas di Out akan terlihat saat menggunakan konsep Simone de Beauviour tentang feminisme dan subjekobjek hubungan (yang lain), wanita dalam kelompok solidaritas yang terdiri dari solidaritas sebagai kekuatan, solidaritas sebagai palsu, dan etika praksis pembebasan Dalam novel Out Natsuo Kirino keinginan jelas perasaan mengungkapkan, pikiran, dan masalah perempuan pada zamannya masih sangat relevan saat ini. Perempuan adalah agen beralasan bahwa harga dirinya dalam kemampuan untuk menentukan nasib mereka sendiri. Pada akhir solidaritas dalam bentuk kejahatan adalah perjuangan utama yang harus dilancarkan oleh perempuan dalam novel luar, di mana tidak ada cara lain yang bisa membebaskan mereka dari situasi yang tertindas. Solidaritas membuat mereka mampu menghadapi berbagai masalah, ancaman, dan gangguan.

THE FUNCTIONS OF HEDGES IN THE CONCLUSION SECTION OF THESES WRITTEN BY THE INDONESIAN EFL STUDENTS Widiyati, Elok

This article provides the explanation about how hedges function in the conclusion section based on Hylandâs hedges functions (1996). This study belongs to descriptive qualitative. The data sources of the study were conclusion sections of theses in English written in the year of 2000 to 2010. Based on the analysis of hedges function proposed by Hyland, the Indonesian EFL students mostly used hedges as writer-oriented hedges, 37 %. It seems that the students could not minimize mistake upon statement in the proposition, could not show less absolute statement, and also could not convey arguments or statements speculatively. English lecturers should take hedges as one of the learning materials so that the students will be familiar in applying them for the academic writings. Moreover, I think that hedges studies provide assistance for the students in employing hedges appropriately.

The issue of sexual violence is not becoming a strange thing in the public nowadays. Many victims of such violence still chose to keep silent by not voicing their suffering. This study tried to capture this fonomena through a novel character, Celie, in Alice Walkers The Color Purple. Celies silence on sexual harassment and physical violence on her due to the chaos of mental development where the id, ego and superego phases do not run properly. Fear of her stepfathers threats were a strong reason for her silence. The purpose of this study was to reveal the mental development of a sexual violence victim from the perspective of Freuds psychoanalysis. The methods used are literature studies where researchers attempt to associate the story in the novel related to the sexual harassment issue with Freuds theory.

Topik dalam penelitian ini adalah pendidikan karakter melalui ungkapan tradisional Banyumas yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran ungkapan tradisional Banyumas dalam pendidikan karakter peserta didik. Metode simak digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dengan teknik sadap. Analisis dilakukan dengan metode padan pragmatis dengan teknik hubung banding menyamakan. Setelah dikaji, ternyata ungkapan tradisional Banyumas banyak mengandung nilai moral dan etika yang dapat berperan dalam pembentukan karakter. Jika pesan ungkapan itu dibalutkan dalam proses pendidikan dengan terus-menerus, maka pengetahuan, perasaan, dan tindakan moral peserta didik menjadi bertumbuh. Pada akhirnya, peserta didik dapat menjadi insan yang berkarakter baik sesuai harapan.
