Abstract

Formal proof is a deductive process beginning from some explicitly quantified definitions and other mathematical properties to get a conclusion. Characteristics of student formal-proof construction are required to identify the appropriate treatment can be determined. The purpose of this study was to describe the characteristics of the construction of formal-proof based overview of the proof structure and conceptual understanding that the student possessed. The data used in this article were obtained from the 3-step processes: students are asked to write down the proof of proving-question, they are asked about the knowledge required in constructing proof using questionnaire, and then they are interviewed. The results showed that formal-proof construction could be modeled by the Quadrant-Model. First Quadrant describes correct construction of formal-proof, Second Quadrant describes insufficiencies concept in construction formal-proof, Third Quadrant indicates insufficiencies concept and proof-structure in construction formal-proof and Fourth Quadrant describes incorrect proof-structure in construction of formal-proof. This model could give consideration on how to help students who are in Quadrant II, III, and IV to be able to construct a formal proof like Quadrant I.

Abstract

Citrus and its oil are of high economic and medicinal value because of their multiple uses, such as in the food industry, cosmetics and folk medicine. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of solvent-free microwave extraction for the extraction of essential oils from Citrus auranticum L. peels. Specifically, this study verifies the kinetics based on second-order model and mechanism of solvent-free microwave extraction of Citrus auranticum L. peels. Solvent-free microwave extraction is used to extract essential oils from Citrus auranticum L. peels. The initial extraction rate, the extraction capacity and the second-order extraction rate constant were calculated using the model. Using a three-step experimental design of the kinetics of oil extraction from Citrus auranticum L. peels by solvent-free microwave extraction, this study showed that the extraction process was based on the second-order extraction model. The initial extraction rate (h), the extraction capacity (CS), the second-order extraction rate constant (k), and coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.7483 g L-1 min-1, 0.7291 g L-1, 1.4075 L g-1 min-1 and 0.9992, respectively.

Abstract

The original Microcab-H4, a hybrid fuel cell car, was tested with Academic drive cycle. After several years, the car was upgraded and tested with the ECE 15 drive cycle. The result showed the car has higher energy efficiency. However, the result could not be compared to the original car due to different drive cycle test. This research was done to measure the performance and energy efficiency of the Upgraded Microcab-H4 with Academic drive cycle. The measure of car energy efficiency was done through four tests: Run on battery, run on battery and Ballard fuel cell, and run on battery, Ballard, and Horizon fuel cell. The energy efficiency was calculated based on the hydrogen consumption after 5 cycles. The lowest energy efficiency was run on battery and Ballard fuel cell with (1.01 km/MJ). The highest energy efficiency was run on battery, Ballard, and Horizon fuel cells (1.10 km/MJ), which is higher than previous tests.

Abstract

In this research, the basic pattern of seasonal performances of soccer teams is investigated. We propose a clustering method to reveal the seasonal performance. In the proposed method, a new performance indicator called situational score line is used as a feature describing the seasonal performance. It consists of score line, opponent rating, and away rating. Using k-means, the features are clustered into four clusters. Cluster 1, which has a pattern of decreasing performance, is the basic pattern of Italian Serie A and German Bundesliga. Cluster 2 has a stable performance, which is mostly shown in English Premier League, Italian Serie A, and Spanish La Liga. Cluster 3 has the highest competitiveness and is one of the most common patterns in French Ligue 1 and Spanish La Liga. Finally, Cluster 4, which has a rising performance, is the basic pattern of the English Premier League.

Abstract

Diabetic detinopathy (DR) is effect of diabetes mellitus to the human vision that is the major cause of blindness. Early diagnosis of DR is an important requirement in diabetes treatment. Retinal fundus image is commonly used to observe the diabetic retinopathy symptoms. It can present retinal features such as blood vessel and also capture the pathologies which may lead to DR. Blood vessel is one of retinal features which can show the retina pathologies. It can be extracted from retinal image by image processing with following stages: pre-processing, segmentation, and post-processing. This paper contains a review of public retinal image dataset and several methods from various conducted researches. All discussed methods are applicable to each researcher cases. There is no further analysis to conclude the best method which can be used for general cases. However, we suggest morphological and multiscale method that gives the best accuracy in segmentation.

Abstract

The radiology examination by computed tomography (CT) scan is an early detection of lung cancer to minimize the mortality rate. However, the assessment and diagnosis by an expert are subjective depending on the competence and experience of a radiologist. Hence, a digital image processing of CT scan is necessary as a tool to diagnose the lung cancer. This research proposes a morphological characteristics method for detecting lung cancer lesion density by using the histogram and GLCM (Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrices). The most well-known artificial neural network (ANN) architecture that is the multilayers perceptron (MLP), is used in classifying lung cancer lesion density of heterogeneous and homogeneous. Fifty CT scan images of lungs obtained from the Department of Radiology of RSUP Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta are used as the database. The results show that the proposed method achieved the accuracy of 98%, sensitivity of 96%, and specificity of 96%.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine how to use first order Markov chain to build a reliable monitoring system for the profit-loss sharing based contracts (PLS) as the mode of financing contracts in Islamic bank with censored continuous-time observations. The paper adopts the longitudinal analysis with the first order Markov chain framework. Laplace transform was used with homogenous continuous time assumption, from discretized generator matrix, to generate the transition matrix. Various metrics, i.e.: eigenvalue and eigenvector were used to test the first order Markov chain assumption. Cox semi parametric model was used also to analyze the momentum and waiting time effect as non-Markov behavior. The result shows that first order Markov chain is powerful as a monitoring tool for Islamic banks. We find that waiting time negatively affected present rating downgrade (upgrade) significantly. Likewise, momentum covariate showed negative effect. Finally, the result confirms that different origin rating have different movement behavior. The paper explores the potential of Markov chain framework as a risk management tool for Islamic banks. It provides valuable insight and integrative model for banks to manage their borrower accounts. This model can be developed to be a powerful early warning system to identify which borrower needs to be monitored intensively. Ultimately, this model could potentially increase the efficiency, productivity and competitiveness of Islamic banks in Indonesia. The analysis used only rating data. Further study should be able to give additional information about the determinant factors of rating movement of the borrowers by incorporating various factors such as contract-related factors, bank-related factors, borrower-related factors and macroeconomic factors.

Abstract

E-commerce click stream data can form a certain pattern that describe visitor behavior while surfing the e-commerce website. This pattern can be used to initiate a design to determine alternative access sequence on the website. This research use heuristic miner algorithm to determine the pattern. σ-Algorithm and Genetic Mining are methods used for pattern recognition with frequent sequence item set approach. Heuristic Miner is an evolved form of those methods. σ-Algorithm assume that an activity in a website, that has been recorded in the data log, is a complete sequence from start to finish, without any tolerance to incomplete data or data with noise. On the other hand, Genetic Mining is a method that tolerate incomplete data or data with noise, so it can generate a more detailed e-commerce visitor access pattern. In this study, the same sequence of events obtained from six-generated patterns. The resulting pattern of visitor access is that visitors are often access the home page and then the product category page or the home page and then the full text search page.
