Abstract

East Nusa Tenggara is one of archipelago provinces consisting of various ethnics and languages. Kupang Malay  (KM)  is a lingua franca used in daily communication. The use of KM lexicons especially in an inappropriate context can create misunderstanding among individual. To avoid this, it is important to comprehend the lexical meaning and how to use it properly. This short paper explains an approach of natural semantic meta-language in analyzing KM data especially perception Verb SEE by using descriptive analysis method and applying natural semantic meta-language  theory proposed by Weirzbicka (1996).In natural meaning viewpoint proposed by Weirzbicka, perception Verbs in Kupang Malay are formed by mental predicate SEE. This paper focuses only on describing semantic features of every lexicon  which has meanings derived from verb SEE. NMS uses semantic analysis approach which is based on the formation of the paraphrase. Semantic Structure of Perception Verb in KM is formed by mental predicate consisting of natural meaning expalined as follows:  “someone saw something” in Kupang Malay liat “see” is realized with “maloi”, “malerok”, “loti”, “pareksa”, “basuk”. Based on the results of analysis, it is concluded that the semantic structure of Perception verb Kupang Malay has 3 types, sub-types and even sub-sub-type that describe the meaning configuration of each lexicon. Distinguishing features can be seen in the mapping and explication.

Abstract

Learning and teaching process is not only determined by the teacher’s ability, but also approach, media, and right methods which can be applied in accordance with the contex, presenting the real world into the class and encouraging the students to relate knowledge and its application in daily life.The research  aims at discussing  how to write short stories through the application of four-box media with participatory approach oriented. Students’ involment in the learning and teaching process is expected more dominant, creative and gratifying. Thus, the situation will evolve students’ imagination, emotion and sensivity to appreciate. The lesson includes: ‘upgrading students’ interest in writing short stories, ‘upgrading students’ ability to detemine the main ideas based on the steps, upgrading the ability to develop the main ideas to form a short story, upgrading the ability to detemine the title, and uprading the ability to edit friends’ short story.The subjects of the research are fourty students of Class IX SMP Negeri 1 Manokwari. The results show that writing short stories through four-box media with participatory approach oriented can increase the interest and ability in writing short stories on students of class IX SMP Negeri 1 Manokwari.

Abstract

The paper aims at revealing contextual learning obtained from songs. “Kali Kemiri” and “Pasir Dua” song in Papuan Black Brothers’ album is one source of learning media. Contextual learning helps the teacher to ties lesson materials with their application in life as family and society members.The current facts show that students only memorize the concepts and are less able to use the concepts if they find problems in real life that has relation with the concepts they have. Beside that, students are also less able to detemine and formulate problems. Many critics were sent to teachers who taught by only focussing on  mastery of information and bare concepts. Therefore, it is hoped that contextual learning model will pay more attention in serving meaningful subjects in natural forms which can be experienced not knowledge-transferred from teachers to students.The paper focuses on revealing efforts of “Kali Kemiri” and “Pantai Pasir Dua” song in Papuan Black Brothers’ Album by projecting problems including: (i) Interest and ability of preliminary writing, (ii) theapplication of contextual learning model, and (iii) ability and completeness of writing narrative paragraph.

Abstract

The paper aims to reveal the nature of science sourced from education philosophy through the perspective of language and culture ontology. Genuinely, language is a part of culture; language and culture are two systems independently standing in acquiring the scientific thruth.The current facts show that the curiousity in the perspective of education philosophy has encouraged human beings to admire all things in the nature, even themselves driving  to the philosophical nature itself. Philosophy grows as human beings ask questions accompanied by admiration and astonishment.Consequently, philosophy begins with desire for questioning. Language on the gate of education philosophy promote language and culture through ontological perspective as a vital part faced by human beings in their whole life. Human beings always create action and reaction which results their dinamic life and forms their existence. Language on the gate of education philosophy can be explored through ontological perspectives including (1) language philosophy domain,(2) education philosophy domain, and (3) language and culture in ontological study.

Abstract

The main focus of the research is to reveal educative values contained in Empat Raja “Four Kings” Folklore. It is hoped that this research can serve as an Indonesian language teaching medium with contextual learning model containing local or Papuan literatures, especially folklores from Raja Ampat areas. Contextual learning model is a model in implementing literature appreciation learning which helps the teachers to tie the materials  and students’ real world. The method used in this research was descriptive-qualitative with data collection which were obtained from Empat Raja “Four Kings” folklore. The data were collected by usinginterview and observation technic and were analyzed by using value analysis and classification. Moreover, there are four educative values acquired from Empat Raja “Four Kings” folklore: (1) educative religious value, (2) educative moral value, (3) educative social value, and (4) educative cultural value

Abstract

This paper aims to reveal the application of mind mapping method proposed by Buzan (2008) in which mind mapping can help students in many ways such as: to plan, to communicate, to be creative, to solve problem, to focus, to organize and to finish thought, to remember well, to learn more quickly and efficiently and to train the whole picture of the story.The fact illustrates that the level of reading ability has declined. The decline is also balanced by a decreasing in the level of students’ understanding on reading text which is being read. To that end, the selection of the legend of Papua folklore “Rock Igomu” coming from Meyah in Manokwari, as a learning medium to improve the ability of reading comprehension can be based on the primary assumption that the context of everyday lives of students or learners  has been familiar and fused with the legend. In addition, the selection of this legend can increase students’ or learners’ treasure of knowledge or cognition as Papuanchildren who are the next generation and the heir of the story.

Abstract

This research uses qualitative descriptive with the the literay short story of “Golden City” by Ishak Samuel Kijne as the object of the research. This research aims to uncover the values of education character in the story based on eighteen values of educative character promoted by the ministry of National education 2010.In this research the writer used two theories, and one approach. Theories used were behaviorism theory and hermeneutic Recour theory in order to discuss the interpretation of the text, while the approach used was the contextual approach where students will be interested to learn as far as the media used are close to them. These theories and the approach were used to solve the problems of the research.The results of research show that there are sixteen values of educative charater found in the object of the research including religious value, honesty, tolerance or respect, hardwork, creativity, autonomy, curiosity, accuracy, respective achievement, coorperation, peaceloving, environtmental care, social care and responsiblity.

Abstract

The paper gives a conditional understanding about the importance of environmental-based learning to establish ecological intelligence. Environmental-based anguage learning is an effort to increase knowledge and understanding aiming at giving critical understanding to the community  learners in order to build ecological intelligence for human sake.Environmental preservation effort through the texts in language learning representatively  gives a picture of how rich human knowledge about the nature is. Thus, it is worth that through formal and non-formal education which are the basis for intellectual community, environmental-based  learning is integrated in language learning. This is reasonable since it is suitable with the government of West Papua Province programs which is promoted as Conservation Province.Therefore, environmental-based  language learning could help the learners to acquire language learning and also to build human intellegential construction in interacting with the nature for their future life. Education is the place where humans are formed to obtain any information which is useful for shapping and establishing human cognitve infrastructure regarding many things. One of them is ecology (environment/nature).

Abstract

Women are the most interesting objects to be used as a discussing subject, research topics, or a source of inspiration for the author in the field of arts and literature. However, there is a phenomenon which is inversely proportional to that, in everyday life, in a society, that embraces patriarchal system, which is women are often ignored, diminished, even considered unimportant. The phenomenon experienced by the women also occurs in Indonesian and Japanese society that embrace patriarchal system.  Speaking about the position of women as a reflection of society in Indonesia and Japan can be seen through literature, as in poetry. One genre of literature that contains the overflow of feelings, imagination, and the poet’s mind cannot be separated from the part of the community. Indeed, the creation of a poem was influenced by the environment where the poet was born and lived. Therefore, throughout the poetry, the ideology of community where the poets came can be revealed, especially in comparing the love poetry from the two countries. The objects of the study are love poetries by WS Rendra and Shuntaro Tanikawa. This study uses the comparative method, the approach of comparative literature, and feminist theory. Throughout the study of comparative literature between WS Rendra and Shuntaro Tanikawa’s love poetries, it is expected that the public would know the position of women in the view of the poet in Indonesia and Japan society.

Abstract

The paper was the results of the research regarding the level of competence or the ability to comprehend active and passive sentences on the second grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bataugu. By using qualitative-descriptive approach, the results of the research show that the students are not thorough in studying active and passive sentences. Individually, 38 respondents (82.61%) are successful, while 8 respondents (17.39%) are fail in studying active and passive sentences. Based on the above facts, it is classically concluded that the second grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Batauga have not fully comprehended the subjects yet, since 85% of the students could not obtain grade 6.5 or above.
