Abstract

This study aims to investigate about the Effectiveness of Using Word Mapping Technique in Teaching Students Vocabulary at The First Grade Students of SMAN 8 Mataram in Academic Year 2014/2015. There were 79 students as sample. This study used quasi experimental non-equivalent research design. The data analysis showed the mean score of experimental group is higher than the mean score of control group. the use of word mapping technique is effective in teaching vocabulary. The deviation of the two mean scores (26.78/17.2) was also significant. It read that the value of t-test was 4.35 while the value of t-table was 2.000 on the level of significant 0.05 (95%) and 2.660 on the level significant 0.01 (99%). This figure indicated that the value of t-calculated was higher than t-value of t- table 4.35 > 2.000 and 2.660. The data indicated that t-test was higher than t-table, it means that the alternative hypothesis (H3) is accepted. Word maps technique maintain the students learning about words through mapping because helps them examine the characteristics of the word concepts, categorize words, and see relationships among words that are similar as well as those that may be different.

Of 40 students, 20 students were chosen as the sample. The method used in this study was descriptive research. The data were collected through observation and writing test. It was found that the ability of the students in writing narrative text was on fair category. Based on the result, 10 students (50%) got score 56 - 65 (fair), 5 students (25%) got score 0 - 45 (very poor), 3 students (15%) got score 66 - 79 (good), and 2 students (10%) got score 46 - 55 (poor). Almost of all students are in between 56 - 65 (fair category). Meanwhile, Having analyze the students’ ability in each of writing aspects, it can be said that they were in inadequate category because most of them were inadequate in content. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using CLL in teaching speaking at the first grade students of SMP N 18 Mataram in academic year 2014 / 2015. This is kind of quantitative research with quasi experimental method. The population of this research involved 67 students’ from the first grade in SMPN 18 Mataram. The reseacher took 44 students as a sample that divided into two groups, 22 students belong to the experimental group and 22 students belong to the control group. To find out the differences of x and y, the writer used pre- test and post- test to collect the data. The data collected was analized by t-test formula. Therefore, the writer gave different treatment to prove that CLL is better than conventional method. After the writer gave the treatment, it showed that the mean of post test of experimental group is higher than control group. After that, the result of mean score of Experimental and group is proved by the t-test and compared with t-table, so the result in t-test is 3,8 and t-table (0,05%) is 2,02 and (0,01 %) is 2,70. In addition, the result of the t-test is higher than t-table (3,8 > 2.02 > 2,70). This means that there is significant different between experimental and control group. From the explanation above, the writer concludes that Community Language Learning (CLL) was effective in teaching speaking for the first grade students of SMP N 18 Mataram in academic year of 2014/2015.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the effectiveness of using numbered heads together in teaching reading comprehension at the first grade students of SMKN 1 Hu’u in academic year 2015/2016. This research is an Experimental study that quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. The populations of this research were 120 students of 6 classes which termed as X.A (experimental class) and X.B (control class) were selected by cluster random sample technique from the first grade students of SMKN 1 Hu’u in academic year 2015/2016. It showed that the mean scores of the experimental class was 31.5 and the mean scores of control class was 7.2. Moreover, it found that the significance value of t-test > than t-table. It was found that t-table 2.042 at the confidence level 0.05 (95%) and 2.750 at the confidence level 0.01 (99%). After the writer compared that score of t-test is 4.40 > than t-table 2.042 at the confidence level of 0.05 (95%) and 4.40 > than t-table is 2.750 at the confidence level 0.01 (99%). And the degree of freedom (df) is n-2=38 from 120 students as the sample of this research. After analysing the data obtained, the writer concluded that the use of numbered heads together technique is effective in teaching reading comprehension. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H3) which is read numbered heads together technique is effective in teaching reading comprehension is accepted.

In collecting the data, this study used pre-test post-test as the research instrument then followed by analyzing the data using the t-test formula. This study found that the mean score of post-test of the experimental group is higher than the control group. It means that study tour activity affects teaching speaking skill. An analyzing data from the result between the deviations of mean scores of the experimental group was 28,9 and control group was 21,7. Then the result of the statistical analysis of t-test in this study was 2,09. It was higher than critical values for t-table in the degree of freedom (df) 23 is 2, 069 (0, 05%). Based on the result of this study, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.

This study the writer took all population as the samples that consisted of 38 students. Because the population less than 100, they divided into two classes, namely experimental class 21 and control class 17. The writer collected the data using the testing method pre and post-test. According to Hughes rubric and t-test formula theory. The result of this research showed that the mean score of experimental group 9.5 and the mean score of control group 2.9. Based on t-test it showed that t- value 11.9 and after consulting to t-table, the t-value was higher than t- table. To conclude origami teaching and learning is more effective to improve students’ writing procedure text, this can be seen from the results of test score, it shows that the experimental class which was given treatment using origami teaching and learning got a higher score than control class without taught by used origami teaching and learning method. Besides the origami could improve the students’ motivation, the origami could attract the students’ attention, the origami help the students to memorize the vocabulary and the origami make the teaching and learning activities interesting.
