Abstract

Islamic education subject, as one of obligated subjects on every formal educational hierarchy in Indonesia, which is hoped can create every one has religious characteristic, is valued has not reach the decided goal. Here, the important Islamic education subject learning innovation which complete, integrated and appropriate with quick development of information and communication technology. This study, discusses about one of alternative solution of Islamic education subject learning by contextual media utilization and religious culture development. Islamic education subject is not enough learned only on the classroom because learning on the classroom more focus on student cognitive dimension. So, needed religious cultural. Brevity, the aim of learning process on the classroom by learning media utilization (technology/ non-technology)  is to maximize knowledge and student comprehension about religious knowledge. While, the aim of religious climate on the school  is to habituate and construct student applying their religious knowledge and comprehension, especially in pray, attitude and behavior on daily life.

Abstract

The learning activities in the subject of Islamic Religious Education is a requirement aimed at building the basic character of students, especially honesty, given the number of students lacking the basic character of honesty in all things either in teaching and learning process or in daily activities. Thus, the writer intends to examine the phenomenon. This study is the result of a field research aimed at answering such problems as firstly the learning achievement of Islamic Religious Education, secondly the character of honesty, thirdly the effect of learning achievement in building the character of honesty, and fourthly the influence of the learning achievement of Islamic Religious Education towards the character of honesty of students in SMA Negeri 1 Sidoarjo. To obtain reliable data, the writer uses such methods as documentation, interview, and questionnaires. In analyzing the data the writer uses the Pearson Product Moment Correlation technique. This study showed that the learning achievement of Islamic Religious Education at SMAN 1 Sidoarjo is classified as moderate, namely  81.4%, while the students classified as having honesty are amounted to 74.3%. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the learning achievement of Islamic Religious Education and the honesty of students.

Abstract

Human being could be considered a topic of discussion which is never completed. Therefore, this study will focus more on the concept of human in the perspective of Ibn Sina and al-Ghazali. In the perspective of Ibn Sina the essence of human being is composed of two elements, namely the body (jism) and soul (nafs). These two elements are really different from the ones found in animals and plants. The presence of soul (nafs) is its manifestation. While the body (jism) a tool for nafs. In addition, there is also a strong relationship between the jism and the nafs. Nafs will never achieve a phenomenal stage without the body. When this phenomenal stage is reached, then the nafs will rule the body. Meanwhile, according to al-Gazali the essence of human is composed of several elements, such as: al-nafs, al-ruh, al-qalb, and al-'aql. These four elements have their own function and role, but are mutually complementary parts in shaping the human personality so-called Insan Kamil. The difference of faculties possessed by human is what makes human being the noblest in the sight of Allah. The purpose of human life is to achieve happiness. Education could be considerably successful for being capable of organizing the learning process in producing quality individuals. Thus, in order to produce the quality individuals, then teachers should be able to cultivate a variety of potential possessed by each student as a human being.Keywords: Human being, education, philosophy

Abstract

The pre-Islamic Arab society is known to be the one upholding the values of racism, feudalism and patriarchy. No doubt if in the time the Arabs were considered as the ignorant society. However, the revolutionary momentum occurred following the emergence of Islam in the desert region. Islam could radically change the Arab social order reaching the point in which human values almost disappeared. This is the beginning of learning society through educational values that are in line with the teachings of Islam. This article tries to unravel how the vertices of education began to disappear in the land of Hijaz. By examining the demographic circumstances of cultures of pre-Islamic Arab society, this article also tries to take the segmentation of society as a basis of analysis of the emergence of the teachings of Islam through the establishment of learning society initiated by Muhammad (PBUH).Keywords: Arab, society, education.

Abstract

Ali Bin Abi Talib once said that children should be educated in accordance with the  development of the times. The Ali bin Abi Talib’s statement could be considered as his attention more to the development of human civilization. For that reason, there should be studies focused on the role of educational institutions in facing the challenges of the times. On this stand, the writer raises the existence of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) for being considered to have been able to survive amid the onslaught of civilization increasingly obscuring cultural identity. In addition, this study also aims to identify and discuss the role of pesantren in the modern era. This is a literature study using a descriptive and exploratory approach. It can be concluded that pesantren are non-formal Islamic educational institutions. Pesantren have permanent and distictive methods and learning models. The purpose of pesantren education is the same as Islamic education in general, instilling a sense of virtue, familiarizing themselves with courtesy, preparing for a holy, sincere and honest life entirely. Pesantren could be seen from three aspects: (a) pesantren that are seen from facilities and infrastructures, (b) pesantren that are seen from disciplines taught, and (c) pesantren that are seen from the fields of knowledge.Keywords: Pesantren, education, cultural identity.

Abstract

The birth of madrassa (Islamic schools) is a response to Islamic education in dealing with the Dutch education policy, initially arriving in Indonesia to trade following the Indonesia’s abundant natural resources. Even, it was determined to take control of the Indonesia’s territory by propagating its teachings, popularly known as 3G namely, Glory, Gold, and Gospel. On account of this phenomenon, the madrassa appeared as Islamic educational institutions used as a means of transfering knowledge in addition to considerably having strateges, especially in shaping the soul of patriotism of the nation children.Keywords: Madrassa, Islamic education, patriotism

Abstract

Pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) with their long historical journey have proved themselves not only as learning institutions still surviving to this day, but also as such a symbol of the power of culture and socio-religious diversity. Public confidence and very high expectations in regard with the birth of generations being able to bridge the building of knowledge on one hand and the great noble characters on the other hand, have still been devoted to the religious educational institutions. By photographing the long history of pesantren, their typology of learning and their presence amid competitive educational institutions today, this article tries to offer a concept aimed at revitalizing the pesantren to purposefully respond to the demands and expectations of their stakeholders. Efforts to reform the curriculum, build human resources capacity, and develop the learning system management could be carried out in revitalizing the role of pesantren.Keywords: Pesantren, human resources, curriculum

Abstract

As human beings God have given them the potential of emotion to do bad or good things. Totally eliminating emotion is also not good. Whereas on account of the emotion ones are eager to eat when they are hungry, they are sad, happy, have a sense of love and so on. So the most important thing is controlling and directing the emotion so that it becomes a guide toward good things.Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays  as part of refraining from any action contrary to the religious teachings will bring self-control, honesty, social awareness, the meaningfulness of life not do things that deviate from the teachings of Islam. Fasting could have a positive impact on a person's religiosity, but not all fasting could increase spiritual intelligence. Only fasting that is done with pure heart and soul will foster spiritual intelligence. Fasting that is done by involving conscience is the true one for being able to become an important instrument to purify the heart and soul. Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays will be able to improve the emotional and spiritual intelligence.Keywords: Intelligence, emotional and Spiritual

Abstract

Islam Nusantara (Islam of the archipelago) is a new term having recently captivated especially Muslim scholars. Islam Nusantara is the discourse about Islam as a religion having an encounter with tradition in the archipelago. Such encounter has resulted in a distinctive religious tradition which is considerably different from that of other regions. While radicalism in Islam is a form of in-depth (radic) understanding in Islam. Instead of having the in-depth understanding of Islam, radical Islam is a form of Islamic understanding that tends to be "hard", scripturalistic, anti tradition and easily blame the interpretation of others. This has led to a movement that justifies any means to impose their views on others. They have even used violent acts, suicide bombings and other forms of violence. The rigid and scripturalistic understanding of Islam is such an antithesis of peaceful Islam Nusantara. The urgency of teaching Islam Nusantara in universities is such a must following the fact that some of the perpetrators of violence in the name of religion are educated groups from several leading universities. This indicates that the radical Islamic movement has begun to spread to higher education. Radicalism has widely been propagated especially to the students studying in non-Islamic studies vocational programs.Keywords: Islam Nusantara, radicalism, universities

Abstract

Developing environmental system littered fully with cultural values and sense of caring for nature is a concrete manifestation of man's role as caliph. Schools as educational institutions have become a strategic place to develop, implement and disseminate the noble role of man. On this stand, there should be a management which starts from a process of planning well-structured programs and the implementation of the programs consistently. In this context, to achieve a predicate so-called Adiwiyata Mandiri, SMA Negeri 1 Lamongan, has reformed the system of school environment that is broadly performed on four aspects integratively. The four aspects are, firstly, environment oriented-school policies, secondly, environment based-curriculum, thirdly, participatory based-school activities and fourthly, environmentally friendly school infrastructure management. The management of developing the system of education milieu in SMA N 1 Lamongan has eventually brought significant impacts: (1) increasing insight of entire school community of environment, (2) increasing sense of caring for environment of school community. (3) increasing environmental health and safety. (4) improved achievement seen from the trend of increasing number of admissions at state universities. And externally (5) In 2014 the Community Satisfaction Index (HPI) was quite good. This can be explained by the logic that when environment is healthy and comfortable, the school community will be be calm and comfortable, working conditions of teachers and employees become quite excited.Keywords: Management, environmental system, education
