Abstract

This study addresses four domains: 1) description of Role Playing learning model use as a learning strategy in Biology instructional process at school, 2) perspectives and threats obtained by teachers at school when addressing Protein Synthesis topic 3) Role Playing learning model in Protein Synthesis topic of Biology learning, 4) the influence of Role Playing learning model towards motivation and Biology learning outcome. The results of this study is teacher needs analysis instruments, analysed using descriptive qualitative. The study showes that the use of Role Playing Instructional Model during Biology learning process has not been performed at school according to three reasons: 1) obstacles obtained when addressing the topic which is difficult to observe, 2) the difficulties obtained when addressing Protein Synthesis topic, in this case, teacher needs to apply Role Playing instructional Model to engage students with their environment, 3) Role Playing as an instructional model that demands students to learn from their experience in order to motivate and improve their learning outcomes.

Abstract

Higher order thinking skills are essential for student future. The 2013 Curriculum demands the existence of an evaluation instrument to train student higher order thinking, not only the thinking skill in the lower cognitive domain, but also in a higher domain. One of the efforts to enhance higher order thinking skills is to engage students with the questions integrated by cognitive C4-C6. This study analysed aspects of higher order thinking in an evaluation instrument. This study used descriptive method by collecting evaluation instrument data used by teachers to evaluate a learning process. Evaluation instruments used by teachers at schools are still in the C1-C3 cognitive level (C1 47%, C2 47%, and C3 6%), the evaluation instruments are not eligible according to the standard applied. The skills demanded by the Fundamental Competency of the 2013 Curriculum. Higher order thinking skills of students are still relatively low, with the percentage mean of 52.03%. The low cognitive level obtained in the evaluation instrument used by the teachers is the reason of the low thinking level of the students.

Abstract

There are two purposes of this study: 1) To generate student understanding of scientific learning approach to improve student comprehension on Biology concept at SMAN 1 Samarinda. 2) To generate integrated learning tools development between Problem Based Learning and Discovery Learning to improve comprehension on Biology concept at SMAN 1 Samarinda. In accordance with teacher needs, observation results analysed using descriptive qualitative methods, three main findings were obtained: 1) teachers were still likely to encounter difficulties when applying teaching and learning process in class, 2) The main difficulties experienced by teachers were due to time constraints in developing learning tools, 3) The learning tools development of the Problem Based Learning and Discovery Learning integrated learning model were considered to be important to improve student comprehension on Biology concept. The learning model used was the Problem Based Learning and Discovery Learning Integrated Learning Model .

Abstract

The lack of student understanding on the topic of Biology presented by teacher may lead them towards a low achievement. This case could be seen from the low students’ average learning outcomes in the 7th grade Biology at MTsN Pakan Rabaa according to Minimum Completeness Criteria ( MCC ). One of the reasons is the traditional method of question and answer applied by the teachers. Biology teachers only emphasizes learning on cognitive aspects. The low level of student learning outcomes are also determined by the students’ prerequisite knowledge. In order to solve this problem, the use of Problem Based Learning and initial ability learning model was applied. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of Problem Based Learning and Initial Ability learning models based on the competence of the student learning styles of 7th Grade Biology at MTsN Pakan Rabaa in 2014/2015 academic year. This research applied quasi experiment which used the static group comparison design. The population was all of the 7th grade MTsN Pakan Rabaa students in academic year of 2014/2015. Sampling technique used was saturated sampling technique and the participants for the experimental class were class VII A, with VII B as the control class. The research findings showed that (1) the students’ cognitive domain was significantly affected after the implementation of problem based learning model, except for those with high cognitive domain levels. (2) The students’ cognitive domain were improved significantly for both students with high and low ability. (3) The students’ psychomotor domain ability were improved significantly for both students with high and low ability (4) there was no interaction between the model of problem-based learning with the initial ability of students to learn biology cognitive competence of students.

Abstract

This study aims to: analyze the needs of teachers, feasibility and effectiveness in the development of learning tools based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to improve 7th grade students' Science learning outcomes in SMPN 2 Bongan. The results of the observation is in the form of teacher needs analysis instrument analyzed using qualitative descriptive. Observation results obtained that the use of Problem Based Learning model in Science learning process had not been optimally implemented in schools, problems obtained in teachers are: 1) teachers still had difficulties in understanding and composing learning tools, 2) teachers still had difficulties in determining the appropriate learning model, 3) teachers were still less creative, 4) lack of facilities and infrastructure provided in schools for teachers to be more innovative in learning. Problems obtained in students are: 1) low mastery on the subject matter, students were only able to answer the problem of C1 to C3 thinking levels, 2) Science learning only embraced the concept so that students felt lack of interest in learning, 3) students were not engaging in learning, 4) low level of student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study adressed three aspects: (1) how Senior Highshool Biology teachers perceive about learning tools (2) how the skills of Senior Highshool Biology teachers in managing learning tools (3) what are problems obtained by teachers according to planning and implementation of learning tools with the integration of Reading, Qusetioning and Answering (RQA). This study is the prerequisite study to analyse the needs for the development of learning tools integrated by Reading, Questioning and Answering (RQA) in Senior Highschool. Method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The conculion obtained from this study includes: (1) the lack of expertise about learning tools in Senior Highschool Biology teachers, (2) the lack of ability in them to manage learning tools, (3) problems obtained in them related to the planning and implementation of the learning tools integrated by Reading, Qusetioning and Answering (RQA) learning model.

sebagian besar masalah lingkungan yang disebabkan karena perilaku manusia dalam berinteraksi dengan lingkungan. Oleh Karena itu untuk memecahkan masalah lingkungan juga harus ditangani oleh tindakan. Transformasi perilaku yang berkaitan dengan hal ini yaitu bertanggung jawab, peduli dan melestarikan lingkungan. Perilaku ini disebut perilaku pro-lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku pembelajaran lingkungan yang mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai perilaku pro lingkungan sebagai tatanan untuk menjaga lingkungan yang berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian dan Pengembangan. Model pengembangan didasarkan pada model ADDIE yang terdiri dari Analisis, Desain, Pengembangan, Implementasi dan Evaluasi. Validasi terdiri dari validasi media, materi validasi. Tanggapan siswa diambil menggunakan kuesioner. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa hasil validasi media memperoleh skor 71,59% (baik), validasi II memperoleh skor 93,18% (sangat baik). sedangkan hasil validasi materi memperoleh 70,59% (baik), validasi II, 87,50%. Respon siswa terhadap buku sebesar 76% (bagus) dan untuk desain buku sebesar 72,21% (bagus). Oleh karena itu, kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu baik dan valid untuk digunakan pada siswa SMP dan SMA kota Jambi.

Abstract

Student habit that tends to use gadgets as primary needs is commonly found in universities. This habit contributes to various problems occurred due to gadget misuse. In order to overcome the problems, lecturers as the educators are required to create innovations to facilitate students so they could learn anywhere and anytime. Therefore, technology needs to be used practically to create a better education. The advancement of technology could be used in learning process for developing both learning instrument and media. This research aims to produce Appypie-based Android Application as a Learning Media about Alga in Monera and Protista Course that is appropriate to use by Biology Education students. This study is a type of research and development. The steps in developing an Appypie-based android application include: Decide, Design, Develop and Evaluate (DDD-E). The feasibility test covers the level of validity and practicality of Appypie-based android applications as a learning media. This study results in a content validity level of 3.78 (very valid), media validation of 3.6 (very valid) and media practicality of 3, 74 (very practical). Based on the results, this is suggested for further research and development in order to develop learning media in other subjects, according to the basic competencies taught. Gaya hidup mahasiswa yang cenderung menjadikan gadget sebagai kebutuhan pokok dan sangat mudah dijumpai di perguruan tinggi.Sehingga berbagai permasalahan timbul akibat penggunaan gadget yang tidak tepat guna.Untuk menjawab permasalahan yang ditimbulkan dari pesatnya kemajuan teknologi yang semakin berkembang, dosen sebagai tenaga pendidik harus menciptakan inovasi-inovasi terbaru untuk menfasilitasi mahasiswa agar dapat belajar kapan saja dan dimana saja tanpa dibatasi ruang dan waktu dengan mudah dan terjangkau.Sehingga teknologi harus dimanfaatkan semaksimal mungkin untuk menciptakan pendidikan yang lebih baik. Kecanggihan teknologi dapat digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran baik dalam mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran maupun media pembelajaran.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menghasilkan Aplikasi Android Berbasis Appypie sebagai Media Pembelajaran Taksonomi Monera dan Protista Materi Alga yang layak digunakan bagi mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi.Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian Research and Development (penelitian dan pengembangan). Langkah–langkah dalam memgembangkan aplikasi android berbasis Appypieini dilakukan dengan mengikuti model pengembangan Decide, Design, Develop, Evaluate (DDD-E). Uji kelayakan meliputi tingkat kevalidan, dan kepraktisan aplikasi android berbasis Appypie sebagai media pembelajaran.Penelitian ini menghasilkan Media aplikasi androidberbasis appypie sebagai media pembelajaran taksonomi monera dan protista materi alga dengan tingkat kevalidan dari validasi materi 3,78 (sangat valid) dan tingkat kevalidan dari validasi media 3,6 (sangat valid) serta tingkat kepraktisan media dengan nilai 3,74 (sangat praktis).Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disarankan untuk penelitian dan pengembangan selanjutnya agar dapat mengembangkan media pembelajaran pada materi yang lainnya, sesuai dengan kompetensi dasar yang diajarkan. Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop the electronic learning media on the subject matter Plant Physiology based 3D pageflip. The 3 D Pageflip is the software that can display the learning material, like: power point, text, pictures, photos, animation, student’s worksheet and videos are integrated in one packaging. This research was designed in ADDIE’s model which have five steps, namely: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. This media was validated by design expert and content expert. The qualitative data from expert suggession used to revise this media, while the qualitative data got from the student’s response to this media. This media was validated by design expert twice and got the last score about 44 (91.67%) with very good criteria. Then, the media also validated by content expert and obtanied the score about 36 (80%) with very good criteria. After validated, the electronic learning media trial to the biology student for the small group test with 9 students as a repondent and obtained the score about 48.87 with very good criteria, while the big group trial test with 15 student as a respondent, got the score about 49.87 with very good criteria. In conclussion, this electronic learning media on subject matter Photosynthesis for Plant Physiology course is very good to use in classroom and also individually. Keywords: electronic media, 3D pageflip, photosynthesis, plant physiology Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran elektronik berbasis 3D Pageflip pada materi fotosintesis mata kuliah Fisiologi Tumbuhan. 3D pageflip ini merupakan software yang dapat menyajikan perangkat pembelajaran seperti: PPT, teks, gambar, foto, LKPD, lagu, animasi, dan video yang terintegrasi dalam satu paket. Media ini dirancang dengan model ADDIE yang memiliki 5 tahapan, yaitu: Analisis, Desain, Develop, Implementasi, dan Evaluasi. Media elektronik ini divalidasi oleh ahli desain media dan ahli. Data kualitatif berupa saran diperoleh dari ahli desain dan ahli materi digunakan untuk merevisi media. Setelah media dinyatakan layak maka dilanjutkan dengan uji kelompok kecil dan besar untuk melihat repons mahasiswa biologi. Validasi desain media elektrnoik berbasis 3D pageflip dilakukan sebanyak 2 kali dan diperoleh skor akhir sebesar 44 (91.67%) dengan kriteria sangat baik. Kemudian media divalidasi oleh ahli materi juga sebanyak 2 kali dan diperoleh skor akhir sebesar 36 (80%) dengan kriteria sangat baik. Hasil ujicoba kelompok kecil dengan 9 orang mahasiswa pendidikan biologi sebagai responden dan diperoleh skor sebesar 48.87 dengan kriteria sangat baik/sangat setuju. Selanjutnya hasil ujicoba kelompok besar dengan jumlah mahasiswa sebanyak 15 orang diperoleh skor sebesar 49.87 dengan kriteria juga sangat baik. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran elektronik berbasis 3D pageflip pada materi fotosintesis mata kuliah Fisiologi Tumbuhan sangat layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran di kelas maupun secara individu. Abstract

Traditional honey gathering is performed by most Malay communities in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The process of honey gathering is not merely taking honey, and other associated products such as wax, but has also developed into an important cultural ritual, and even become a part of the identity of the Jambi Malay community. Traditional honey gathering also involves values ​​and local knowledge that can enrich science teaching and learning. This study aims to reveal the science content of traditional honey gathering in Jambi. Data were collected through participatory observations as well as a literature review. The results show that the traditional honey gathering can be integrated into teaching to create more meaningful science learning, especially in junior high school. The integration can be implemented by employing constructivist based learning models that are adjusted to the students’ conditions and the environment around their schools. Keywords: local knowledge, traditional honey gathering, science learning ABSTRAK Pengambilan madu secara tradisional dilakukan oleh sebagian besar masyarakat melayu di Propinsi Jambi. Prosesi pengambilan madu tidak semata-mata hanya untuk mendapatkan madu atau pun produk lain yang terkait madu seperti malam (lilin), tetapi sudah berkembang menjadi budaya bahkan menjadi identitas masyarakat Melayu Jambi. Pengambilan madu secara tradisional juga mengandung nilai-nilai dan pengetahuan yang dapat diintegrasikan dalam pembelajaran sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyingkap aspek ethnosains dari tradisi pengambilan madu pada masyarakat Melayu Jambi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview), serta kajian literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengambilan madu tradisional dapat diintegrasikan untuk menciptakan pembelajaran IPA di SMP yang lebih bermakna. Dalam implementasinya, pembelajaran dapat dilakukan dengan model-model pembelajaran yang berbasis konstruktivisme, sesuai dengan kondisi siswa dan lingkungan di sekitar sekolah.
