Abstract

This study aims to find out about the challenges of English teachers in teaching online English by using the EduLearning application, where the study examines what kind of challenges that the English teachers face during the online course using EduLearning application and also how do they deal with the challenges itself, There are two objectives in this study, they are 1) To know what are the challenges that English teachers face in online teaching using EduLearning application. 2) To know how do English Teachers deal with the challenges in online teaching using EduLearning at SMP Muhammadiyah 4. The researcher used data collection techniques, namely interviews and questionnaires. The interview is an online interview that was asked to three English teachers with the same questions of each, and the questionnaire was given through Google form. The first question shows that there are five challenges that were encountered by the English Teachers by using the EduLearning application, namely internet connection, media, lack of interaction between students and teachers, limited ability, and technical problems. And for the second question shows that there are four solutions, namely, school-provided computer laboratory to be used by students, the variation in teaching online, the shifting application, and the need for training.Keywords: Online teaching, EduLearning application, Challenges.

Abstract

This research explores the importance of pronunciation during speaking performance. As well as what problems are naturally experienced by the students in English pronunciation. During the presentation, students experienced many obstacles in the pronunciation of both vowels and consonants. Pronunciation errors occur due to the strong influence of the mother tongue that students have and a lack of understanding in foreign language.  The sample of this research is 4th semester students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang-Indonesia. This study used qualitative analysis that contains data comparison, verification, and data presentation. The documentation method is used to obtain primary data. Primary data obtained from the results of student documentation when performed in classroom activity.

Abstract

Abstract Language attitudes towards languages acquired and use in young generation is the main issue of this study,  This study aimed to answer the following questions; 1. How do tertiary ESL students perceive their language  acquisition and  use?  a. How do they rate their proficiency in each language?    b.What language(s) are dominantly used ? for what purposes?   In what settings?  c.What do they think  of  their heritage language and its maintenance? 2. What efforts have they done to maintain their heritage languages and/or  languages they acquired and use? a.What factors that motivate them to maintain their heritage languages  and/or   languages they acquired  and use?  b.What are the constraints in their efforts to maintain  the languages?   c. What strategies have they adopted in maintaning  their heritage language?. The methodology used in this study is qualitative which employs 65 students of English department at fifth semester. The result of this study, all participants have positive attitudes towards the languages they acquired and used. Most of them perceive that they have to maintain their heritage languages, and some of them have done some efforts in maintaining it. Moreover, they also have the same problems in persevere their heritage language, that the languages are rarely used. So, in conclusion the students know that they have to something in maintaining the languages they have acquired and use, however, they did less action.Key words: Heritage language, Language attitude, Language acquisition, Language use, Perceptions

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia is currently implementing a new policy that is teaching and learning activities from a distance, or we can call it learning from home or online learning. All education institutions require teachers and students to use online platforms to continue the learning process. The research aimed to find out the students’ perception of using Microsoft Teams as an online platform during the pandemic. This research was categorized as an explanatory-sequence approach. This study involved 8th-grade students (N=18) from the public junior high school in Surabaya. Eighteen items of questionnaires have been distributed. The findings revealed that the majority of the students involved in this study have a good perspective on using Microsoft Teams as an online platform; because of the ease of the use of Microsoft Teams, the students feel that the features of Microsoft Teams are pretty useful for them as the students, but even though most of them enjoy using Microsoft Teams, they prefer to choose to do classical learning which can be known as traditional learning.

Abstract

The research was conducted to determine student learning achievement before the pandemic using face-to-face learning and after pandemic using E-learning. The research was conducted at SMPN 13 Tangerang. In the research, the researcher used a qualitative approach. The researcher took the sample of this study were 10 students of class VIII and 2 English teachers. The instrument in the study was a questionnaire given to students, then observations and interviews with students and teachers. Based on the results of interviews with class VIII students and teachers, it was found that students are more comfortable, and more able to understand and follow the lesson by using the face to face learning model because students can meet face to face, discuss the material given or ask the teacher directly if there is something they haven't. understanding of English material. Likewise, teachers in making materials, managing classes, evaluating students more easily during face-to-face learning. This research proves that student learning achievement is maximized and run well using the face-to-face learning model.Keywords: Learning achievement, Before and during pandemic

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether the application of TBLT in learning English can improve students' speaking skills. This research was conducted in one of the Junior High Schools in Magetan with the participation of 16 students in second grade and an English teacher. This study used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test- post-test design. The researcher used observations and interviews with the teacher to collect data and conducted tests (pre-test and post-test) on students as the research instruments. SPSS statistic was used to analyze the data, in particular using the paired sample test. The average value of the post-test was (85.25), which was higher than the mean score of the pre-test (60.25). The t-test score is -25,000 and the degree of freedom (df) is 15. Thus, it could be concluded that the implementation of TBLT may help students enhance their speaking skills.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know types of students’ errors and the most common or least type of students’ error in using degrees of comparison of adjective at eight grade students of SMP Islam Ayatra. Degrees of comparison is an important element of grammar that rules how to change the form adjective to show a comparison. The research used qualitative method. The participants of this research consisted of thirty students. The source of the data in this research was collected from students’ written test in using degrees of comparison of adjective. The result of this research stated that there were four types of errors, they are omission, addition, substitution, and permutation. The total of them is 485 errors. The highest percentage type of error was substitution with 54,64% (total frequency of errors was 265). And the lowest percentage type of error was addition with 2,06% (total frequency of errors is 10).

Abstract

Teaching and learning process is a process that contains a series of actions of teachers and students based on reciprocal relationships that take place in educational situations to achieve certain goals. Nature School is one of the alternative educations that use nature as the main media for student learning. This research aimed to find out the teaching and learning process in English class at Sekolah Alam Mekar Bakti Tangerang. The research questions were: how was the teaching process in English class?; how was the learning process in English class?; what are the advantages and disadvantages of teaching and learning process in Nature School setting. Data collection techniques used by researchers are observation, documentation, and interviews. The researchers used a triangulation method. The results showed that: the teachers applied three stages (pre-instructional stage, instructional stage, and follow-up phase); students experienced three stages in their learning process (receiving information, Information storage, and recalling information); there are some advantages and disadvantages found during the teaching and learning process in Nature School setting.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the information related to the students’ perspectives on using E-Learning as learning media during the pandemic, which was seen from 2 aspects: perspectives on the advantages and the problems faced. The subject of this study were students in 6 semesters at University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The writers used 3 techniques; interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The result of this study showed that most of their perspectives of the advantages of using E- learning are; more comfortable and flexible to do anytime and anywhere, saved time, money and transportation costs, upgraded technology and access much information, more safely and independent learning. However, the main problem faced were poor internet signal connection, spent a lot of internet quota. Moreover, there are some students who felt bored, and stressed because of monotonous learning, and lack of knowledge to master the application’s      use properly.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between students’ public speaking and muhadhoroh training with the title “The Correlation of Muhadhoroh Training and the Eighth Grade Students’ Public Speaking at Al-Manshuriyah Islamic Boarding School Tangerang”. The research subjects in this study were 28 eighth grade students. The research was quantitative survey method. The data instruments were tests and questionnaires. The test was used to collect data on students’ public speaking using speech test. Researchers used SPSS 25 and Ms. Excel to analyzed data. The result showed that there was significant relationship between muhadhoroh training and students’ public speaking. This could be seen from the results of a significant correlation in public speaking and muhadhoroh training  _xy = 0,897>  _t = 0,374, N = 28 with a significant value 0,05 so there is a correlation. Keywords: correlation study, public speaking, muhadhoroh training.
