Abstract

Bioethanol is an alternative energy that is starting to be needed, along with the depletion of petroleum reserves. Bioethanol can be obtained from various wastes, including palm oil trunk waste which contains 86.03% cellulose. The purpose of this study was to determine the production of bioethanol from oil palm trunk waste by treatment with crude enzymes Trichoderma reesei and Aspergillus niger. This research is an experimental study using a completely randomized design, namely the ratio of crude enzymes from Trichoderma reesei and Aspergillus niger (0:0), (1:0), (0:1), (1:1), (2:1), (1:2), (3:1), (1:3) on sugar and bioethanol content of fermented oil palm stem waste using Zymomonas mobilis. Sugar content was measured using the DNS method, bioethanol content was measured using an alcoholmeter. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The results showed that the crude enzymes T. reesei and A. niger could increase the sugar content, namely the ratio of crude enzymes T. reesei and A. niger 3:1 (11.89 g/mL). The highest bioethanol content was in the ratio of crude enzymes T. reesei and A. niger (2:1), which was 2.34%.

Abstract

Sugarcane productivity included cane yield and sugar extracted rate (rendemen) fluctuated annually. The main causes of low sugarcane productivity is quality of planting material with no high sugar extracted rate (sugar rendemen) potential, resistance to pests and diseases, stability production, tolerance to climate changed and early age of harvest. For increasing of the yield productivity and producing a superior sugarcane planting material with competitiveness cost, the vegetative propagation through in vitro culture technique via shoot tip culture was carried out. The objective of this research is to produce a superior sugarcane planting in vitro and analyze the costs required. The research was carried out at the Tissue Culture Laboratory, PT. Gunung Madu Plantations (GMP) in March-May 2021. The research stages started from the preparation of explant source plants, sterilization of explants and tools, manufacture of stock solutions and planting media, subculture, and analysis of the costs needed to provide superior sugarcane seeds. The results showed that the basal swelling of explants, increasing the number of shoots, root elongation, and the method of providing superior sugarcane seeds from apical shoot explants in vitro were relatively more competitive with the price of plantlets per culture tube contained 10 clones costly were Rp. 20,328, compared with conventional propagation methods. with the price of sugar cane seedlings material were Rp 1,603/stem.

Abstract

Liquid waste generated from the distillation process of lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.) in a relatively short time will cause a foul odor, ammonia or phosphine that occurs due to the fermentation process. These problems can be minimized by reusing liquid waste of lemongrass (C. nardus L.) into biolarvicides. This study aims to determine the value of Lethal Concentration 50 (LC50) from the liquid waste of lemongrass (C. nardus L.) which can kill the third instar larvae of A. aegypti mosquitoes for 24 hours. The liquid waste of lemongrass (C. nardus L.) used in this study is waste obtained from the lemongrass (C. nardus L.) distillery located on Jalan Masjid Ulayat, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. A total of 10 mosquito larvae of A. aegypti instar III were used for each different concentration of 6,982%, 7,607%, 8,287%, 9,027% and 9,833%. Each concentration consisted of five repetitions and was observed for 24 hours. After 24 hours, larvae that died were analyzed using probit analysis via SPSS 25. The results showed that the LC50 of lemongrass (C. nardus L.) liquid waste can kill larvae for 24 hours was 8,763%.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the argumentation skills of students in learning through discussion of socio-scientific issues with the concept of viruses. This research is descriptive which describes the quality of oral and written arguments. The research was conducted in class of  X MIPA at SMAN Jakarta. There were 34 students involved in this study. The method of analysis to determine the pattern of arguments used is the Toulmin Analysis. The analysis of collaborative oral arguments in class used Erduran's analysis framework. Meanwhile, the quality of individual written argumentation was Dawson and Venville's analysis. The results showed that the quality of students' oral arguments reached level 5. This means that students have been able to make a claim accompanied by a warrant and rebuttal quite well. The quality of the students' written arguments reaches levels 2 and 3. This means that students' arguments consist of arguments in the form of claims (claims) accompanied by guarantors of claims (warrants) and evidence (data) and rebuttals that are still weak.. The augmentation process verbally and collaboratively in class has reached the highest level, but individually and in writing it is still at a moderate level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in students' argumentation skills in learning biology on the subject matter of the respiratory system through a scientific approach. This research was conducted in class XII SMA in Way Kanan Regency, Lampung Province with an ex post facto design. The sampling technique used in this study was stratified random sampling with the determination of research subjects at SMAN 1 Baradatu which was accredited A, SMAN 2 Buay Bahuga was accredited B and MA Miftahul Ulum Way Tuba which was accredited C. Data collection instruments consisted of argumentation skill tests, interviews, study documentation and questionnaires. The argumentation skill data were analyzed with the help of Excel, hypothesis testing was carried out with one-way ANOVA and LSD test, interview data and learning documents were analyzed descriptively qualitatively with the Miles and Huberman model and questionnaire data were analyzed descriptively in percentage form. The results showed that there was a significant difference in argumentation skill among high school students with accreditation of A, B and C (sig. < 0.05). The average argumentation skill of students from A-accredited high schools was higher than B and C accredited high schools, but the average value of the three schools was very low. Students from A, B and C accredited high schools could make claims well, but had not been able to provide grounds, warrants and backings that are relevant to the claim. This was because students wer not used to working on argumentation questions and teachers had not optimized learning activities with a scientific approach.
