Abstract

Uncontrolled erosion will endanger the people on the banks of the river. One of the bad consequences is the land down and the landslides, as happened in the Lubuk Lande River, Teratak Buluh Village. This river is located on the edge of Lubuk Street, initially the Lubuk road has a width of 3.5 m, the road gradually narrows to 3 m wide. Therefore, Community Service (PKM) activities are needed, in order to develop knowledge, skills, optimize natural resources and waste by making portable and eco-friendly of Gabion (polygon). Polygon is an innovation of making gabion using waste shellfish, river stones and vetiver plants as a controller of river erosion. Polygon is designed with a beam shape with 3 frames, the first frame is filled with river stone material, the second frame is filled with a mixture of stone and shells, and the third frame is filled with shellfishs and vetiver plants. polygon is placed on the side of the river which often experiences erosion, namely the river turn area. This PKM activity was carried out for two days with the community and cadres. The first day was an educational activity, while the second day was the implementation of polygon. The results of this activity indicate an increase in community knowledge and contributions about controlling river erosion.

Abstract

Many ways can be done in an effort to increase the production of shallots, such as regulating the right dosage of fertilization, regulating the optimum spacing, proper irrigation, good pest, and disease control and choosing varieties that have high production potential. There are several varieties that are often cultivated by farmers in West Nusa Tenggara, namely Keta Monca varieties from Bima, Brebes varieties originating from Central Java, Super Filip varieties and Vietnamese varieties. Technological innovations by trying out several superior varieties of shallots also need to be socialized to the community by conducting community service activities in an effort to implement a culture system that is environmentally friendly, sustainable and can improve crop yields. This community service activity was carried out in Seteluk Village, Batulayar District, West Lombok Regency, which is a shallot producing area. The method used in carrying out community service is a training method that is continued with practical work in the field by conducting demonstrations and active participatory action research. To see the results of community service an evaluation was conducted which included: average plant height, tuber yield per plot, attendance and participation of participants in adopting the applied technology, and discussion during the extension. The results of the demonstration plot of mycorrhizal biofertilizer application on four shallot varieties showed that the Keta Monca variety originating from Bima gave the best growth and yield and was suitable for planting in the lowlands. The presence and participation of farmers during community service was very enthusiastic about the delivery of extension materials. The participants' understanding of the material provided was very good, as seen from the number of participants who asked questions and the relevance of the questions posed by the participants in accordance with the extension material delivered.

Abstract

The aims of this activity (Program Kemitraan Masyarakat - PKM) was to improve the quality product trough transferring knowledge into appropriate technology (Teknologi Tepat Guna -TTG) in term of production. This program has two partners, Mr. Masdukin’s small industries in Fertilizer and Mrs. Munthoipah's cake industry. Both partners located in Pakis Village, Trowulan – East Java. The main Problem from the first partners were (i) The stirring engines fertilizer could not work maximally and restrain the production. The root problem was the cutting place is too long, it needs to be modified in order to work maximum, (ii) The results fertilizers produced in the form of soil, whereas it should be having maximum benefit if the fertilizer production in the form of pellets. The second partner Mrs. Munthoipah was a small Industry in manufacturing cakes, using biogas from compos for lighting and cooking at home. The problem was the residual biogas was not yet utilized maximum, the residue which is in the form of soil could be usefull as a fertilizer, because the substance of methane compos has already utilized for biogas. The role of the first partner is as an object that supervised and accompanied for production and marketing. while the role of second partner is as the supplier of raw ingredients fertilizer from the residu that called slurry. The results that have been achieved is (i) the modification of screw machine  and enumerator (ii) Granulator machines and (iii) the use of slurry for biogas.

Abstract

Three theories in educational psychology: (1) Flow (Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi), (2) Grit (Angela Duckworth), dan (3) Growth mindset (Carol Dweck) open the possibility for fun learning. Flow according to Csikszentmihalyi happens when the challenge in an activity is balanced with the necessary skill, so that one can experience flow during the activity. This feeling of flow is actually what makes learning fun. The concept of grit consists of two components: (1) perseverance and (2) passion for long term goals. Duckworth discovered that grit can predict success better than mere intellect (IQ). Growth mindset is a psychological state where one is not afraid to look stupid and therefore is more open to challenges because he/she focuses more on the learning process rather than momentary results. In the workshop in one private school in Tangerang, the three concepts were explained with concrete examples from movies and other illustrations. Furthermore, we did a demonstration in optical physics with simple equipments to simulate natural phenomena: A rainbow, the red evening sky, and laser deflection due to refractive index difference. Pre-test and post-test results after the fun learning workshop show that the concept of flow and grit is easier to comprehend by the teachers than growth mindset. After the workshop, there is an increase in the opinion that math and physic lessons can also be fun.
