Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has a gross impact on all aspects of life, including education. Therefore it provides convenience and flexibility in exploring science. However, information in Internet is not always verified. Therefore critical thinking is highly needed in dealing with these developments. The objective of this research was to determine the improvement of students' critical thinking skills after participating in content mastery services with Internet-based problem learning models. This study is a Quasi-Experiment which uses quantitative methods and The Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The subjects of this study were students of Public High School 2 in Padang. Furthermore, the research instrument used was a Likert model scale. Data analysis was performed with the aid of the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Two Independent Sample test. According to the research, content mastery services with Internet-based problem learning models are effective for improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Resilience is an important aspect for the psychososial development of adolescents who living in orphanages. Self-esteem is suspected to affect resilience of adolescents who living in orphanages. The purpose of this research is: (1) describes self-esteem and resilience adolescents who living in orphanages, and to know (2) the relationship between self-esteem and resilience of adolescents who living in orphanages. This research uses correlational method. Subjects in this research were 87 adolescents who living in 4 orphanages in Pariaman City with 13-18 of age. The data was collected using self-esteem scale and resilience scale. The data were analyzed using simple regression analyses by utilizing program SPSS 20.0 for Windows. Research results showed that: (1) generally self-esteem and resilience adolescents who living in orphanages are in the high category, and (2) there was significant positive relationship between self-esteem and resilience of adolescents who living in orphanages.

Abstract

Decreasing prosocial behavior shown bystudents is one of the problems associated with perceptions of parenting and peer social support. The purpose of this study was to reveal the relationship between perceptions of parenting and peer social support,and prosocial behavior. This study uses a correlational method and data was collected from a sample of 239 students, who were found using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using a scale of perception on parenting (37 valid items,α = 0.944), peer social support scale (31 valid items,α = 0.934) and prosocial behavior scale (45 valid items,α = 0.935). Data were then analyzed by multiple regression. The results show a correlation coefficient r = 0.173 and p = 0.00 (p> 0.05), which shows that there is a positive and significant relationship between perceptions of parenting and peer social support together with prosocial behavior.

Abstract

Purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the approach Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy setting group in overcoming the anxiety of students facing exams at SMP Negeri 1 Lubuk Alung. This type of research is quantitative using an experimental approach.The research subjects were students of class VIII.2, amounting to 10 students, with moderate, high and low levels of anxiety. The instrument used was Anxiety Questionnaire using a model Likert scale. Data analysis using descriptive statistics Wilcoxon Single Rank with 20.00 SPSS test. The results of the study show that in general the group activities using the approach REBT effectively change the anxiety of students facing exams. Specifically: (1) Describe the form of anxiety students face in examinations before treatment (pre-test), (2) Describethe form of students' anxiety in facing the test after treatment (post-test), and (3) Testingthe effectiveness of the approach Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy settings to group to overcome students' anxiety in facing examinations in junior high school.

Abstract

This study motivated by the low level of student motivation in mathematics subjects. The application of high-touch teachers and academic self-concept are factors that influence students' learning toward motivation in mathematics subjects. This study uses a descriptive correlational quantitative method. The population of this study was all students of MAN 1 Pekanbaru totalling 1138 and 322 students were selected by using proportional stratified random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires for the application of high scored teachers’, academic self-concept, and student learning motivation in mathematics subjects using a model Likert scale. The findings of the study were the application of high touch teachers in a good category, academic self-concept was in a fairly positive category, student motivation in mathematics subjects was in the high category, the application of high touch teachers and academic self-concept respectively contributes significantly positively to students' learning motivation on mathematics subjects.

Abstract

Senior students bullying juniors is one of the problems related to senior perceptionsof the familiarization to the school environment and peer social support, and the purpose of this study was to reveal relationship between these variables. This study uses a correlational method and has a sample of 202 students, who were found using techniques Proportional Random Sampling. Data were collected using a scale measuring senior perceptionsof the familiarization to the school environment (31 valid items = 0.914), a scale measuring peer social support (29 valid items = 0.873), and scale measuringbullying to junior (29 items valid = 0.902). Data were analyzed by multiple regression, and the results showed a correlation coefficient R = 0.089 and p = 0.00 (p> 0.05). The results showed that there was a negative and significant relationship between senior perceptions of familiarization to the school environment and peer social support with bullying to juniors.

Abstract

In adolescence, the competence of interpersonal relations develops and increase. However, students still face some problems during puberty. These include being ostracized, mocking each other, an unpleasant class atmosphere, isolations, and selfishness. To overcome these problems, guiding and counseling services are needed. Nevertheless, for it to be effective, it is important to understand students' interpersonal issues accurately. The purpose of this study therefore was to describe the nature of interpersonal relationships among students in junior high school. The sample population consisted of 133 junior high school students selected by proportional random sampling technique. Furthermore the instrument used is the scale of interpersonal relations with reliability 0.881. Data analysis used a quantitative approach with descriptive methods. The results therefore showed interpersonal relationships among students were advanced, having an average score of 206.77 and anachievement rate of 78%. The findings of this study might be used by counselors to improve students' interpersonal relationships.

Abstract

This study is aimed at developing and testing the Application of Forgiveness Management Module on University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) trainee counselors. The main focus of the study is focused on the module development process and the effect of the module on the emotional, cognitive and behavioral aspects of an individual. The study was conducted using a qualitative and quantitative combination method. The sample of the study consisted of 8 UNIMAS counseling students. The Instrument Level of Anger Scale (LAS) and Tendency Forgive Scale (TTFS) are used to identify the appropriate study sample to follow this module. The built-in Forgiveness Management module has a high authenticity value of 82.2%. In addition, the reliability test of this module has a high coefficient of Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.884. This proves that participants have learned new knowledge better understanding the concept of forgiveness than before following the modules that have been conducted.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the cause of stress and coping strategy among cardiovascular patience in Sarawak.  This study is qualitative method whereby the researcher will use semi structured interview.  Five informan was selected to be participating in this study.  The researcher using purposive sampling which mean have characteristics likes heart disease and waiting for the date of operation.  In this study also, the researcher did two times interview session.Result for this cause of stress is informan feel stress because they have to wait for a long period for the operation schedule, family distance, no planning towards retirement and lack of financial.  For coping strategy, majority of the informan used the technique by site seeing around hospital, family support and spending time with peer patients.The finding of this study will be a guideline for the new cardiovascular patience. Furthermore, family members and Pusat Jantung Sarawakwill get new information on how to help cardiovascular patience in the future.

Abstract

The purpose of this study wasto examine consumer consumption behavior in shopping online. It also aimed to establishthe factors promoting students desires to transact online. Importantly, the study used qualitative research methods. The results showed that consumption behaviorswere not based on needs but rather the desires, they are easily influenced by friends and follow the latest trends, discounts, or promos in the online shop. There are other additional factors with significant influence of consumption patterns. These include price, convenience, trust, availability of goods, and the promotions attractingtheirattention. Therefore, counselors should utilize information services, group guidance, and individual counseling services to regulate students behavior.
