Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the management of the School Operational Assistance (BOS) year 2019 at the Department of Education Culture Youth and Sport Semarang Regency. This is an evaluation research. Data were collected using documents study techniques, observation, and in-depth interviews. Data are validated by source and triangulation techniques. This study uses mixed method to get the whole pictures of the informant sources. What new about this research is that the data analysis technique uses the Edward III Model that looks at the factors of communication, resources, disposition and bureaucratic structure. The result of this study shows that implementation of School Operational Assistance (BOS) year 2019 is carried out in accordance with guidelines made by the government. The four aspects are all in very good categories. For communication aspect is in very good category because it gets 10 out of 12 points or 83 %. For Resources aspect is in very good category as well for its score is 16 out of 20 points or 80%. While for Disposition aspect is in very good category because it gets 17 out of 20 points or 85%. For the last aspect which is bureaucratic structure gets the highest points as it gets 8 out of 8 points or 100 %. Although the results are all very good, it still needs a little improvement on communication aspect especially on consistency factor since the guidelines has been revised for three times. Resources aspect on human resources quantity in BOS management team for there is only two persons managing 601 schools in Semarang Regency and also on disposition aspect because there is no incentive and award for the BOS management team. These results bring implication that the Department of Education in Semarang Regency can make improvement on the aspects which do not get maximal score and the for others Education Department in other Regencies or cities can learn from this research to manage BOS in better ways.

Abstract

As the importance of personal skills stimulation for children to prepare and equip children in facing various learning levels of further education is necessary, research about it is needed. This study examined the effect of creative movement model on the personal skills of early childhood. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with post-test only control group design. The population of this study was students of Group B Cluster III Kindergarten in Payangan District, Gianyar which the sample was Melati Kindergarten as an experimental group with treatment and Hindu Widya Kumara Santhi Kindergarten as a control group without treatment. Data analysis of the study was descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, by using t-test that was processed by IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 24 for Windows. The result of data interpretation in hypothesis test showed that Sig. (2-tailed) score was 0.001 which meant the significance score was smaller than α (0.001 <0.05). According to these statements, it could be concluded that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. The study demonstrates that creative movement model has positive effect on children’s personal skills. With this finding, parents and especially educators expected to be willing to develop various creative movement activities that can stimulate children's personal skills more optimally and sustainably. The benchmarks of children's achievement should go beyond cognitive aspects; thus, teachers need to provide stimulation for children's personal skills to develop social emotional aspect.

The results showed that the diary media had a significant effect on the ability to write student narratives with a coefficient of t count > table = 6.41> 1.70 at a significant level α = 0.05. These results indicate that the diary media can be used as an alternative media in learning to write student narratives. Therefore, teachers need to know the importance of using appropriate learning media to develop students' narrative writing skills.

Abstract

Several studies have been conducted to investigate the writing strategies used by skilled and less-skilled English writers, particularly in the EFL context but only a few have attempted to observe the strategies employed by skillful/proficient English students, predominantly in the Indonesian context. Therefore, the interest of this research was to discover the types of writing strategies applied by three skillful English students while writing in English (L2) and evaluate their substantial effects. The participants were three graduate students majoring in English Education. Moreover, the data obtained from Think-Aloud Protocols, semi-structured interviews, and written drafts were analyzed and evaluated and the results showed the writing process of the students varied. On the whole, the disparities presented a more understanding of students' writing process. It was also discovered that the three students applied similar strategies but the major inconsistency was in the manner with each was implemented.

Abstract

This study is a descriptive-qualitative study which aimed to describe the roles of EFL teachers in promoting learner autonomy. Four EFL teachers in seventh grade junior high schools were selected as the subject of this study. The data were collected through questionnaire and observation techniques. In collecting the data, two kinds of instruments were used, namely, questionnaire and observation sheet. The result of this study revealed that in promoting learner autonomy, the teachers perform the roles as facilitator, counsellor, resource and manager/organizer. Considering the result of the study, the teacher should involve their students in the decision making process of learning activity, not only in selecting the technique or approach, but also in all aspects of learning process such as selecting objectives of the course, managing classroom and selecting the materials. Schools also need to support their teachers in developing innovative strategy especially in promoting learner autonomy. The schools should offer teachers with professional development programs on learner autonomy such as following workshops. For further researchers, considering the challenges met by the EFL faced by the EFL teachers in promoting learner autonomy is needed.
