Abstract

This study was conducted to improve the competence of students of SMP N 1 Sukasada inconstructing Simple Present Tense sentences by applying the concept of Subject – Verb Agreementand appropriate Auxiliaries through the Mistake Buster Technique. Grammar is one of the languagecomponents that should be mastered by the students in order to develop accuracy and creativity inusing the language in communication. The findings of the study show the students’ competence inconstructing sentence is improving; it is shown by the students’ mean score which improves from cycleto cycle. From the observation, it was found that MBT allows students to find and correct mistakesthemselves which help them to understand the rules deeper.

Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the effect of MALL strategy through Quizizz applicationtowards the students’ grammar mastery in higher education level. The design of this research was aquasi-experimental research with post-test only control group design. This research population wasthe 4th semester which consists of 246 students in English Language Education UNDIKSHA. Thesampling technique of this research was cluster random sampling. The sample was 33 students of FClass as the experimental group who was taught by using MALL strategy through Quizizz and 32students of C class as the control group who was taught by using conventional strategy. This resultwas also supported by the calculation result of effect size which was 0.92 that belongs to the largesteffect. The large result of the effect size proven that the use of MALL strategy through QuizizzAplication was appropriate for teaching grammar especially in higher education level.

Abstract

argon is one of language varieties that is used based on some purposes. The languagevariety which is called jargon that is used in occupational or used for spesific purposes like in HRD(Human Resource Department) in five stars hotel, especially one of the hotel is The Lovina Bali whichlocated at Lovina, Singaraja north Bali. This study aimed at desacribing (1) the Jargons that are usedin the HRD at The Lovina Bali, (2) the forms of Jargons used among the HRD at The Lovina Bali, (3)the meaning of jargons used among the HRD at The Lovina Bali. The obtain data were indentify using3 instruments : (1) Checklist, (2) Interview Guide and (3) Tape Recording. This study conclude that :(1) There were 121 jargons used in Human Resource Department (HRD).

Abstract

Many researchers suggested that the language taught in the classroom must reflect how it is usedby native speakers because there has been a gap between the language used in the classroom andthe language in real life. This study aimed to determine the level of authenticity of the material used bythe English teachers and also to find out the criteria that teachers use in choosing authentic material.This study used explanatory mix-method research where quantitative data results will be supported byqualitative data results. The subjects of this study were three English teachers in senior high school inSingaraja. Data from this study were collected through document study and interviews. The result ofthis study indicates that the materials used by English teachers in senior high schools in Singaraja arein the level authentic.

Abstract

Having good knowledge, skills, and good character is the next generation of superior nation.Many ways can be taken to foster the character of the younger generation, such as through theapplication of the values of “Tri Hita Karana” in the story of the “Yuyu yang Baik” by Cok Sawitri. Thisresearch is a qualitative descriptive study. This study contains the values of “Tri Hita Karana” in“Yuyu's yang Baik” story. Data was collected through data cards and analysed by the Mils andHuberman model. This model goes through three stages, namely: data reduction, data presentation,and drawing conclusions. The conclusion of this study is that character education can be taught toearly childhood based on the values of “Tri Hita Karana” in “Yuyu's yang Baik”.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing the implementation of K-W-L (Know-Want-Learn) strategy used by one of the English teachers in SMA Negeri 3, Singaraja. In this study, the subjects of the study were the students of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja especially the eleventh grade and an English teacher. The present study employed qualitative design. The methods of data collection were classroom observation and questionnaire. The findings showed that there were 3 stages of the implementation of K-W-L (Know-Want-Learn) strategy namely pre-teaching, whilst-teaching and post-teaching. The result of the questionnaire, it means about the brilliant alternative strategy used by teacher, because KWL (Know-Want-Learn) developed some ideas about the text before reading the whole text and focus to find the important points of the text. Before the student starts to read the text, they need to use their prior knowledge and continue to set their want or interest of the text.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate students’ perception toward plagiarism, students’ reasons to commit plagiarism and students’ ways to avoid plagiarism in University in North Bali. This study employed explanatory sequential mixed method with 175 students from different departments and faculties. This data were collected questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire consisted of 30 items statements about plagiarism, students’ experiences about plagiarism, students’ reasons to commit plagiarism and students’ ways to avoid plagiarism. This data were analyzed quantitatively. The result of this study showed score of students’ perception toward plagiarism was 3.9981 in interval 3.696654.64995. Based on qualification level, the score of students’ perception toward plagiarism categorized high and the qualification was positive. It means the students’ understand about plagiarism. It can be concluded students understand about plagiarism and the result students are expected to avoid plagiarism no matter. For further research it suggested to conduct similar study with larger participants.

Abstract

The research’s aim was to investigate the effect of Quizizz towards the eleventh grade students’ English study. A quasi-experimental utilizing a post-test only control group was employed for data gathering. Research’s population included eleventh-grade students in SMA Negeri 4 Singaraja. The sample was 37 students of XI IPS 1 as the experimental group who were treated through Quizizz and 36 students of XI IPS 2 as the control group who were treated through conventional teaching strategy. The method of data collection employed multiple choice test. The result showed scores of experimental group (M=83.08, p value=0.018) and control group (M=80.77, p value= 0.018). Mean score of experimental group was higher than the control group (83.08>80.77) and the p value was 0.018 or less than 0.05. The small effect was supported by result specification of reading comprehension text dominated by literal recognition aspects. In conclusion, Quizizz affected students reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing the types of errors in seventh grade students’ descriptive texts and identifying causes of errors. There are two research questions in this study, namely: (1) What are types of grammatical errors made by seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sukawati in writing descriptive texts? and (2) What are the causes of grammatical errors made by seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sukawati in writing descriptive text?. The data for study were collected by document study, interview method, and recording. The instruments were researcher, writing task, guideline, interview guide, and mobile recorder. The results of this study showed that there were five types of errors found in students’ descriptive writing, namely: omission, addition, misformation, misordering, and spelling. The total number of errors was 541 errors. There were three causes error found in this study, namely: carelessness (40.67%), first language interference (53.42%), and translation (5.91%).

Abstract

This descriptive study aimed at describing the number of prefixes and suffixes in Taro Dialect and its types of inflectional and derivational. This study is a descriptive qualitative research. Two informant samples of Taro Dialect were chosen based on a set of criteria. The data were collected based on three techniques, namely; observation, recording technique, and interview (listening and noting) technique. The results of the study show that there were five prefixes and five suffixes existing in Taro Dialect. The prefixes were {N-}, {ma-}, {sa-}, {pa-}, and {ka-}. The suffixes were {-in}, {-ne}, {-an}, {-ang}, and {-e}. The prefixes and suffixes that belong to derivation are: prefix {N-}, {ma-}, {sa-}, {pa}, and {ka-} and suffix {-ang}, {an}, {-ne}, and {-in}. The prefixes and suffixes that belong to inflection are: prefixes {N-}, {ma-}, and {ka-} and suffix {-ang}, {an}, {-ne}, {-in}, and {-e}.
