<![CDATA[Language variations are often encountered in daily communication, one of which is in the communication of the online game PUBG Mobile player community. The game programming language is English, so they have indirectly learned to understand the meaning of the language used by the online game. Based on these reasons, the researcher wants to explain the language variations used PUBG Mobile players by Tamy e-sport community in Lubuk Basung and also the factors that cause it. This research uses the theory of Chaer and Agustina about language variations that are caused not only by their narrative, but also by their social interactions. The researcher used qualitative methods. The purpose of this research is to explain the form of language variations used in player PUBG Mobile and their factors. The results of the research show that in the communication of PUBG Mobile players by the Tamy e-sport community there are language variations in the form of code-mixing, abbreviation, and Jakarta dialect. Code-mixing is the most commonly found in their communication. The factors that influence language variation in the communication of PUBG Mobile players in the Tamy e-sport community are environmental factors, habitual factors, and practicality factors in speaking]]>

<![CDATA[This study deals with the types and functions of code switching used in the speeches of the judges of MasterChef Indonesia Season 7 at the grand final episode,in line with that this research also analyzed the social aspects that affected code switching based on these utterances. The judges of MasterChef Indonesia Season 7 who had educational backgrounds abroad made them accustomed to using code switching in their speech. The aim of this research are (1) To analyze the types of code-switching used in judges’ utterances of MasterChef Indonesia Season 7 grand final episodes, (2) To analyze the functions of code-switching used in judges’ utterances of asterChef Indonesia Season 7 grand final episodes. The data source of this research was obtained by watching and listening to 12 video CDs from an online video sharing platform called YouTube. The researchers find three types of code-switching: 7 tag switching, 53 inter-sentential switching, and 17 intra-sentential switching. The functions of code-switching found in this research are only four functions, they are 25 referential functions, 8 directive functions, 28 expressive functions, and 6 phatic functions. The social aspect affecting code-switching in this research is social class and status.]]>

<![CDATA[Wardhaugh in Chaer and Agustina distinguishes two types of language change: internal and external change. Internal changes occur from within the language itself, such as phonological, morphological, or syntactic changes. External changes occur due to outside influences, such as borrowing or absorption of vocabulary, the addition of phonemes from other languages and so on. The purpose of this research is (1) to analyse the language change that can be found in mass media and social media. (2) to analyse the social context that can be found in mass media and social media. The method used in this research is the qualitative method. The data was taken from Padang Express newspaper and Facebook. From the analysis there are so many languages change that can be found in mass and social media. Many people change the language when they used it in mass and social media.]]>

<![CDATA[This research uses literary work as the object of research. The literary works analyzed in this research are five poems by Sylvia Plath entitled Daddy, Ariel, Poppies in October, Lady Lazarus, and Edge. The aims of this research to showing the languange features in Plath’s poem and revealing the meaning through languange features using in Plath’s poem. To find out the languange feature in the Plath’s poems it used level languange in Stylistics consist of phonologycal level and semantic level. The phonological level consist of alliteration, assonance, and consonance. And semantic level consist of simile, personification, methapor, imagery, hyperbole, and symbol.This research using pragmatic approach to revealing the meaning in Plath’s poems and features languange as a reference to help in finding meaning in each stanza of the poem. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and the technique use content analysis technique. This is because this research will analyses the all content in Plath’s poems.]]>

<![CDATA[This thesis is entitled The Struggle of Matchmaker to Find Love as Seen in Jane Austen’s Emma. The formulation of the problem in this research is how the extrinsic elements that builds the story outside the novel. How the psychology of personality of a matchmaker in finding love. The background of this research problem is in the writing of a novel created by an author, there is an author personality in creating characters in the story. Knowing the extrinsic elements that build a story will make it easier to conduct research on the psychology of the character in the story. The purposes of this research are describe the extrinsic elements that builds a novel from outside and to analyze the psychology of Emma’ personality as a matchmaker in finding love. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data are in the form of sentences and statements in the Emma and Biography of Jane Austen. The technique used in analyzing data is content analysis. The steps taken in analyzing are reading and understanding the psychology and story in the novel. This step will make it easier to research using theory extrinsic element theory of Renne Wellek and Austin Warren (1948) and personality psychology from Freud’s (1962). The results of this research there are extrinsic elements of the author which consists of literary relation with the biography, psychology, society, and idea of an author. The extrinsic elements influenced the author in creating a work on personality psychology Emma as a matchmaker in finding love consists of Id, Ego ad Superego. This research it was found that the personality of Id from Emma is more dominant and the Ego tends to follow the wishes of the Id. Superego about the principle of values and morals are also widely found. Emma really holds the values and morals of how she acts in society.]]>

<![CDATA[This research describe and explain the indicators of politeness among students of English Department in Dharma Andalas University. This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis. The data of this research are the speech between English Department students. Retrieval of data using the refer method. This method is followed by a free and interactive technique. Data was collected by taking recorded conversations between students of English Department at Dharma Andalas University. The results of the research data show 5 indicators that students apply in their utterances, they are: the use of word help, sorry, greeting, could, and thank you. The use of greeting is the most indicator that the students used in their utterances, followed by the use of word help, could, sorry and the last one is 4 data of indicator that uses of word thank you.]]>

<![CDATA[Penelitian ini membahas pandangan retorika terhadap bahasa. Aspek kebahasan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah kosakata baku dan tidak baku. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penggunaan kosakata baku dan tidak baku dalam pidato ketua umum partai nasdem Surta Paloh. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deksriptif. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa tuturan dalam pidato Surya Paloh yang secara rinci meliputi kosakata bakun dan tidak baku. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan lisan pidato Surya Paloh. Penelitian ini mengandalkan peneliti sebagai instrumen utamanya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Surya Paloh lebih banyak menggunakan kosaka baku dibandingkan kosakata tidak baku. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa Surya paloh sangat memperhatikan pemakaian bahasa dalam pidato yang disampaikan, walaupun pidato yang disampaikan terkesan cepat dan menggebu-gebu tetapi Surya Paloh sangat memperhatikan sekali bagaimana penyampain formalitas pidato resmi.]]>

<![CDATA[This paper deals with the fact that special code mixing is used by every people for their caption. Include the Influencer. They promoting the products on Instagram using unique, chic, and fancy captions that will make their fans interested. The code mixing, which is employed in this case involve words or phrases identified as woman language. The data were taken from documented captions, which accompany the Influencers with the most people love their photos from Indonesia. The data focuse on Indonesian clauses or sentence mixed by English language. The result of study demonstrates that code mixing in the captions is the woman language features; empty adjective, special color terms, hashtags, polite form and sweet clossing, used by women but commonly avoided by men. In this case, those features as a certain group with distinctive language features. Internal and external factors determine the process of certain language features to be a marker of the group as well.]]>

<![CDATA[This research analysis of figurative language and meaning contained in the lyrics of the song Secondhand Serenade a naked Twist in My Story Album. This research applies semantic theory, especially to figurative language and meaning. The theory used in analyzing figurative language by Kennedy (1995) and the use of meaning in the lyrics used Leech's (1981) theory. The purposes of this research are: (1) To analyze figurative language contained in each lyrics in the album A Naked Twist in My Story. (2) To analyze meaning countained in each lyrics in album A Naked Twist In My Story. This research used this research is the qualitative method. The technique of analyze the data in this research used to substitutional technique. The data collection technique used in the research is observation technique and noted taking technique. The data source is taken from Secondhand Serenade a Naked Twist in My Story Album. The data analysis of this research is to follow the following steps: selecting songs that contain figurative language and meanig, identifying types of figurative language by reading carefully, classifying type offigurative language from the data, and making conclusions. The results of this research show that the total number of figurative languages used in the lyrics in secondhand serenade are 36 figurative language data and 15 meanings. The data of figurative language includes 3 data of metaphor, 2 data of simile, 11 data of personification, 17 data of hyperbole, 2 data of metonymy, 2 data of synecdoche and 4 data of paradox. While the meaning of the data contained in the research there are 15 data, namely 4 data of conceptual meaning and 11 data of connotative meaning.]]>

<![CDATA[Senja, Hujan, dan Cerita yang telah Usai karya Boy Chandra merupakan cerita non fiksi kreatif atau yang lebih dikenal dengan novel. Novel ini menarik untuk dikaji karena merupakan novel yang memuat kisah-kisah pribadi penulis yang dikembangkan dengan unsur imajinatif serta mengunakn gaya bahasa yang menarik. Tema dalam novel ini sangat menark karena berhubungan dengan percintaan dan patah hati. Kepribadian tokoh utama dikemas dalam setiap tindakan dan prilaku tokoh. Adapun tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mendeskripsikan struktur kepribadian tokoh utama berdasarkan analisis teori sigmund Freud. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan kualitatif deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa kalimat dan parangraf yang memiliki unsur struktur kepribadian. Sumber data adalah novel Senja, Hujan, dan Cerita yang Telah Usai karya Boy Chandra tahun 2015. Instrumen yang digunakan tabel pencatatan data. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utmam memilki struktur kepribadian id, ego,dan super ego. Id tokoh utma tergambar dari rasa menyukai terhadap pasangan. Ego tokoh utama tergambar dari kekecewaan tokoh utama,dan super ego tokoh utma tergambar dengan tindakan tokoh utama membawa segala bentuk permasalahan dengan hati nurani yang mempertimbangkan aturan sosial di masyarakat.]]>
