Abstract

Supplier selection is a major strategy for manufacture to run the production process smoothly in supply chain network. Supplier categorization, selection and performance evaluation are decisions of strategic importance to companies. Global competition, mass customization, high customer expectations and harsh economic conditions are forcing companies to rely on external suppliers to contribute a larger portion of parts, materials, and assemblies to finished products and to manage a growing number of processes and functions that were once controlled internally. Thus supplier performance evaluation is very important to choose the right supplier for the right product for supply chain management. In this paper a fuzzy supplier selection algorithm (FSSA) is implemented to rank the technically efficient vendors according to both predetermined performance criteria and additional product-related performance criteria. Investigation of the properties of the best supplier alternative by ranking the fuzzy indices allow to develop an algorithm which is based on calculating fuzzy suitability indices for the efficient supplier alternatives and validity is illustrated through an example problem.

Abstract

In this new era of Supply chain coordination contracts are offered and accepted according to the varying need and specification of the industry and business in discussion. The contract variations arise according to the circumstances and adaptability by both manufacturer and retailer. An important challenge faced by the contracts being offered is the adaptability and robustness when demand observed is different from the forecast. Because of stochastic and uncertain demand, retailer faces lost sales and eventually loses revenue within the same horizon. This paper discusses a back up quantity contract for a single season in which retailer orders for one-shot inventory ordering. Manufacturer retains some part of the ordered inventory as backup and provides the units at first stage. If stock at retailer lags behind the demand, he gets the backup quantity otherwise he pays some agreed upon nominal price to manufacturer in case that inventory is not at all required. We assumed the case of single manufacturer and single retailer. If units are not required, the risk of holding inventory lies with manufacturer and salvaged at zero. The strategy is suitable for businesses having short seasonal products and high demand variability. We used Monte Carlo simulation for analyzing lost sales and supply chain profit scenario and used worst case distribution and normal distribution to validate the Pareto improving contractual relationship.

Abstract

The present paper aimed at proposing new strategies for evaluating the green supply chain management for enhancing the priority to environmental factors in cement manufacturing life cycle analysis, there by reducing the carbon foot prints. These strategies help in producing eco-friendly products there striking the balance between economy and environment. Initially green supply chain priorities are defined by using grey relational analysis (GRA). The priority weights obtained by GRA method is used to determine the weight for each indicator selected in the present study and then GRA is combined with TOPSIS methodology to obtain the priority for level-II measurement indicators used in the present study. These strategies will influence the decision making priorities during cement manufacturing. Abstract

The world is facing an increasing frequency and intensity of disasters both natural and man-made that have devastating impact on life, livelihood and economy of the affected communities. In the context it is very important to plan for disaster response activities and preparedness to minimize the economic and human loss. In a post disaster situation various aid organizations and government agencies start supplying food, water, clothing, medicines and other emergency relief materials efficiently and quickly to maximize survival rate and continue normalcy. However, managing disaster response supply chain is not that straight forward. In most disasters, information is scarce (between the supplier and end users) and coordination rarely exists (Long & Wood, 1995) which creates disruption in flow of supply chain. Hence disaster response supply chain operates in a level of high uncertainty and is very different from what most supply chain managers perceive. This article describes the main characteristics of disaster response supply chain, particular issues faced by the managers and the opportunities on which the future strategy could be capitalized. It also suggests a model that captures the interaction between different components of supply chain and controls the flow of the commodities from the source through the chain to reach the end users.

Abstract

Supply chain Management is a combination of three words supply, chain and management. Supply is all about meeting the needs, wants and demands of customers where as the chain actually represents connectivity. Further management is all about planning the supplies transit to meet demand , organizing the processes sequence for it , controlling and ensuring the process quality through check points and gate control systems, leading by defining process ownership and staffing by right sizing at each and every step. Thus aforementioned three words combined together to form supply chain management. Supply chain management is also to provide the best possible services to the customer with maximum cost effectiveness. Another recent development in the field of supply chain management is the evolution of supply chain operation reference model also known as SCOR model. This model was first introduced by the supply chain council (SCC), a globally known corporation due to excellence in supply chain practices and systems formulation. This SCOR model is actually a reference model standardized terminology and processes [42] which actually emphasizes on benchmarking. This benchmarking is actually related to an operational measurement in order to craft a portfolio for improvement which is directly linked and tied with balance sheet of the company for improved performance along with bottom line increment. Information technology (IT) applications in the field of supply chain management (SCM) has achieved a significance by virtue of its capability and ability to lessen the costs and enhanced responsiveness in the supply chain functions [41], [15] , [19], [36], [45], [43].

Abstract

As the impact of “Green Marketing on the Practices of Supply Chain Management in Asia (GMOPOSCMA)” as concerned, it have been drawing the attention of both the academics and practitioners in the recent decades. However , no holistic frame work has been developed on how to build green industrial brands & industrial corporate brands. Whether or not sustainable, here, the green marketing and the green supply chain can be integrated with green industrial marketing in building greener organizations & industrial brands is still unclear. That’s why the supply chain management takes the leadership role in order to lead industrial marketing in to a great par in the world economic. In addition to that, little is known on the factors on green new industrial products are adopted by organization. Furthermore, we know little of whether and how- green marketing and its practices enables green new industrial product’s economic development. The special issue aims at the reflecting the most recent advances, on green industrial marketing, given sustainable supply chains & their interplay in given industrial branding & to explore future research directions. Abstract

This paper investigates the current developments in research and practice in the field of supply chain flexibility through content analysis of the published literature. We had scrutinized a wide range of research publications from national and international journals and conferences of high repute. As diversity and uncertainty in the environment increases the companies are responding by adding flexibility as a dimension to their operational strategies. The review examined various perceptions, notions and definitions of flexibility, drivers and sources found in manufacturing and supply chain literature and compared the stated objectives, articulated needs and fundamental beliefs underlying the concepts, from a flexibility decision-performance-synchronization perspective. Abstract

This study looks into detailed aspects of reverse logistics on the issues that pharmaceutical organizations face. Reverse logistics is now following a trend where it is seen as a competitive advantage and a source of potential revenue. The perception is changing from the tradition of returns being a barrier to profits and a cost burden. Also the sustainability issue being addressed by reverse logistics is beneficiary to pharmaceutical organizations with end-of life products. The discussion contributed to the market perspective and to back up the misconception of returns being a cost issue, when it maintains market share by retaining quality. The perception of those industry practices on the environment and sustainability practiced by organizations has shown less enthusiasm than once thought.

Abstract

In Indian market, customers see the quality ofthe product and simultaneously the price of that product. So, to be a winner inIndian market, quality of the product plays a major role with a peep into thedifferent segmented customers. So, total quality management (TQM) has beenwidely accepted as the ways and means for maintaining supply chain quality.From design to manufacturing, from factory to retailers or dealers or to endcustomers business are accepting TQM approach for achieving quality excellencethroughout the supply chain management. Hence, it is an attempt to describe howTQM is implemented for achieving supply chain quality management to influenceIndian market. Maruti Suzuki has taken as the best example for this context.
