Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku, with registered number ISSN 2581 0421 (online, is published by Department of Psychology Universitas Andalas. Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku publishes original articles on new knowledge and research or research application with current issues in Indonesian Psychology. All submitted manuscripts will be subjected to the peer review process following a thorough inspection by the editors. Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku publishes 5 -7 articles in each edition with 10 - 18 pages long for each article. One volume of Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku divided into two editions, which are published in the 1st and 2nd semester each year. Articles are written in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language) OR English. Abstracts must be in English. Publication in this journal is free of charge and all published papers are available online through open access.

Abstract

The purpose of research was to assess psychometric properties of scale attitude toward social sciences subject: Economics, Sociology, History and Geography. Psychometric properties consisted of validity, reliability and item discrimination. The subjects were 198 high school students with purposive sampling method. Scale used semantic differensial format with overall 68 items. One item unpassed, 67 items passes selection with rit ≥ 0,400. Factorial validity confirmed 3 assumed factors: activity, evaluation and potential. Convergent validity showed positive correlation among subscale. The parallel test reliability showed of equivalent coefficient rxx’ 0,939. The final scale consisted of 12 items, easily in used and scoring. The scale could be used for research, external validation of other scale, high school majoring, educational counseling, learning evaluation, education intervension and university majoring. The next research was to validate with external criterion especially academic achievement.

Abstract

Gambling has long been comprehended as activities involving money wagering or other belongings for random or uncertain outcomes and causes the risk to chains of problems to the individuals, ranged from financial problems, psychological problems, and interpersonal problems. Maladaptive gambling behavior has also been classified in DSM-IV, named as pathological gambling (312.31), and is considered as illegal practice in many countries, including Indonesia. Gambling activities as a tradition also exist in various cultures, such as ‘tajen’ in Bali, Indonesia. ‘Tajen’ is a cockfighting tradition and a part of religious rituals in Bali. This has resulted in a unique problem regarding to its cultural and legal context, while the risk to psychological problems (such as pathological gambling) cannot be disregarded. Using the case of Tajen in Bali, this paper also discusses the influences of culture to gambling behavior and its legal complexity.

Abstract

Keberagaman budaya merupakan salah satu topik yang paling penting di dunia saat ini. Keanekaragaman budaya selain telah menciptakan lingkungan yang indah, juga memiliki potensi kesalahpahaman yang dapat menyebabkan kebingungan, kemarahan dan meningkatkan eskalasi permusuhan. Adalah warga Dusun Bangun Rasa, Kabupaten Bantul, para warganya menerapkan raos persatuan dari ajaran Ki Ageng Suryomentaram. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami rasa persatuan di Dusun Bangun Rasa sehingga dapat dijadikan sebagai model sebuah masyarakat yang berkesatuan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan menggunakan metode penelitian studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara kepada para subyek dan informan sebagai sumber data dan observasi partisipan maupun non partisipan secara live in. Sumber data lain adalah written documents dan unwritten documents. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: Pertama, rasa persatuan bagi warga Bangun Rasa dipahami sebagai “Rasa Sama”, guyub rukun dan kegotongroyongan. Kedua, penerapan dari rasa persatuan di dalam kehidupan sehari-hari oleh warga dusun Bangun Rasa tercermin dalam dua penerapan, yaitu (1) penerapan di keluarga berupa musyawarah dan tidak memaksakan kehendak, dan (2) penerapan di masyarakat, berupa perilaku gotong royong. Ketiga, manfaat dari rasa persatuan yaitu urip dadi sugih (hidup menjadi “kaya”), urip dadi entheng (hidup menjadi “ringan”), hubungan antarindividu menjadi tidak kaku, menanamkan rasa “kita tidak bisa hidup tanpa orang lain”, menanamkan rasa empati, dan beban pemerintah menjadikan ringan. Dan keempat, kondisi psikologis para warga dari diterapkannya roas persatuan adalah melahirkan rasa nyaman, sumeleh, dan tenteram.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the risk perception of Merapi disaster in hazardous community, based on social network centrality. Quantitative approach with psychology scale is used to reveal perceptions of volcanic risk of Merapi, collaborated with name generator to reveal index of social network centrality from 83 people. Result of this research proves that degree, betweeness, closeness, and eigenvector centrality all together are able to predict Merapi’s disaster risk perception, with 17% coefficient determination value (R2). Which means that the research hypothesis is convicted. Separately, betweenness, closeness and eigenvector centrality contribute negatively with perceptions of Merapi volcanic risk. Strong, influential and independent actors consider the potential danger of Merapi as predictable and avoidable. The availability of support, information and access further enhances confidence in the ability of the self to control the impact of Merapi exposure. Conversely, peripheral actors have concerns and more assumptions about the dangers of Merapi, which results from a lack of information, access, support that ultimately reduces his beliefs.

Abstract

Using electricity and fuel oil might have some negative impact towards the national economy and the environment. Psychological scale for measuring awareness of energy usage has never been tested before. The main purpose of this study is to construct psychological scale for measuring energy usage. The concept of Amburgey (2012) has been used to describe of psychological concern that are perceived threat and desired change. Perceived threat is an evaluation of a person to a problem and desired change is one’s willingness to resolve that problem. Four hundred-thirty eight students were enrolled in this study with a mean of age 21 years old. The results of content item validation show that one item from perceived threat’s subscale has value of Aiken (V) less than .50 and all of items from desired change’s subscale have V value greater than .50. Result from item’s discrimination process show that 40% items from perceived threat’s subscale has low of discrimination power and desired change’s sub scale has 31%. Alpha value for perceived threat’s subscales is .76 and desired change’s sub scale is .78. The concern for energy usage scale has poor model fit.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the corelation between forgiveness to psychological well-being in teenagers whose living in orphanages. Subject were obtained 172 adolescents who live in three orphanages in Pekanbaru by using purposive sampling technique that is 172. The Data were collected by using Psychological Well-being scale (Ryff) with reliability coefficient (0,885) and Thompson Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS) with reliability coefficient (0,839). The data analysis showed that there is a significant corelation between forgiveness and psychological well-being in teenagers whose living in the orphanages, with R= 0,790, and p = 0,000 (p≤0,05). When teenagers willing to forgive themselves, the situation and others people, it will make the teenagers able to establish a good relationships and able to give meaning for their experienced during life in orphanage which is corelate in perceiving psychological well-being. The low level of forgiveness is corelate with high psychological well-being. To improve the level of psychological well-being, teenegers must have to continue improving his or her own forgiveness, whether for forgiveness of self, others, or the situation.

Abstract

Abstract. This research is aimed to improve early adolescent student’s assertiveness. Hypotheses in this research is . Experimental research design is used by implementing randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects are students of VIII SMPK at Malang, 30 students for experimental group and 30 students for control group. Assertiveness scale is used to measure the level of assertiveness which has 27 items with the realibility index is 0,729. Assertiveness training module has been written as the procedure to guide its process. Paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test are used to analyze the data. The results show significance score 0,000 < 0,005 that means there are differences between pretest-posttest and groups. Moreover, the effect size result shows 0,93 that means the treatment gives a big effect for student’s assertiveness. Therefore, it can be concluded that assertiveness training is effective to improve student’s assertiveness.

Abstract

Developmental, Individual Differences, Relationship-Based approach (DIR/Floortime) is one of the available interventions focused on increasing the quality of caregiver-child interaction. This study is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of DIR/Floortime to increase the ability to sustain attention on a 4 year-old child with Early Onset Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This is a qualitative research involving two participants, a boy diagnosed with ADHD, and the mother of the boy. This research utilized observation and interview in gathering the data, accompanying the use of observation log for duration of attention and frequency of distractedness specifically designed for this research, Functional Emotional Assessment Scale (FEAS), questionnaire and interview guideline: Observing Child’s Biological Challenge (OCBC), and Sensory Processing – Motor Planning Questionnaire (SPMPQ). The result of this study indicated that the application of DIR/Floortime principles is effective in increasing the ability to sustain attention on a 4 year-old child with Early Onset ADHD, along with the increase of the functional emotional development of both mother and child as shown with the increase of attention span, the decrease of frequency of distractibility, and score increase in the Functional Emotional Assessment Scale (FEAS).

Abstract

Parental divorce can be a very stressful experience for adolescents. Adolescents will lose their parent figure and feel different atmosphere in the family. This study aimed to identify the psychological dynamics of adolescents that have experienced parental divorce developing into juvenile delinquency. This was a case study research. The subject of this study was a 13-year-old boy with divorced parent and lived in an orphanage. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and psychological tests. The result revealed that juvenile delinquency happens because of the need of gaining attention from others. The wrong mindset "I will get attention if I commit juvenile delinquency and disturb others" became the basis of the subject’s socially inappropriate behaviors. It was the way to compensate his inferior feelings to the environment.

Abstract

This research aims to explore significant description and factors that influence parenting self efficacy toward blind parents with middle childhood children. This research basically applies phenomenology qualitative method. The subject of this research focuses on two couples of blind parents who live with their middle childhood children. The data collection is conducted by applying the interview and observation. All responses were analysed with Van Kaam phenomenology method which has been modified by Moustakas (1994). Parenting self efficacy of the four informant shows great value on domain nurturance, however it shows less value on domains of discipline and recreation. There are various factors that affect parenting self efficacy on these subjects, such as limitation of eyesight, childhood experience, culture and community, experience with children, cognitive level, sociomarital support, and busy hours. Besides, number of children, economy, and children’ severe disease can also be influential factors of parenting self efficacy.
