Abstract

Critical thinking abilities are very important to improve the quality of thinking and make students better understand the content that has been studied. But in reality, students' critical thinking skills are still very low. So it is necessary to have a study that describes the critical thinking skills of these students . The purpose of this study is to describe students' critical thinking skills at the abstraction level in solving space construction problems. This research is a qualitative descriptive type because it describes in detail the critical thinking ability of Van Hiele's abstraction level in solving space construction problems. The instruments of this research are the van Hiele geometry test, the space construction problem solving test, and the interview guide. The research subjects consisted of one student of class VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Pamekasan at the Van Hiele level of Abstraction. The selection of female subjects in this study was due to the fact that female subjects were more communicative in expressing what was in their minds making it easier for researchers to uncover critical thinking of students at the level of Van Hiele abstraction. The results showed that the subject solved the space construction problem according to the critical thinking indicator stage but was not perfect because the subject made an error when solving the problem (indicator evaluation), so that the final answer obtained was not correct. This affects the conclusions obtained (inference indicators) namely the subject draws conclusions but the answers are not correct.

Abstract

This research was conducted due to the fact that the level of mathematical connection ability of junior high school students was still relative low. This study aims to describe students' mathematical connection abilities based on students' self-confidence, especially in the topic of building flat sides. Self-confidence is one of the psychological aspects to see the success of learning in the school. The subjects of this study were the second grade students which is in the class VIII B as many as 25 people from SMP Negeri 3 Bangkinang. This research used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The instruments used in this study include a mathematical connection ability test and a self-confidence questionnaire. The stages of the research consista of 4 stages, namely: 1) filling out the self-confidence questionnaire, 2) giving mathematical connection ability test questions, 3) analyzing the data, and 4) drawing the conclusions. The results of the research has shown that: 1) Overall students' mathematical connection abilities get an average of 57%, which means that students' mathematical connection abilities are in a fairly good category, 2) Students with high self-confidence have an average mathematical connection ability of 60 %, 3) Students with moderate self-confidence have an average mathematical connection ability of 58.6%, 4) Students with low self-confidence have an average mathematical connection ability of 52.6% which is included in the poor category. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that students who have high self-confidence have better mathematical connection abilities rather than students who have moderate and low self-confidence.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the learning process must be carried out online. During the implementation of learning, it is undeniable that there are many complaints from various parties, especially students who judge online learning to be less effective. This study is a qualitative research with a descriptive method that aims to provide an overview of the effectiveness of online-based mathematics learning carried out at SMKN 2 Tanah Putih during the Covid-19 pandemic. The data collection technique was carried out using a google form questionnaire "Analysis of the implementation of online-based mathematics learning" with research subjects as many as 10 male students and 10 female students in class XI at SMKN 2 Tanah Putih. The data analysis used is descriptive statistics using the Miles & Huberman analysis model which consists of three stages, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that the implementation of online learning in mathematics subjects at SMKN 2 Tanah Putih was categorized as less effective with an effectiveness level of 59.4%. Less effective learning is caused by factors that affect the online learning at SMKN 2 Tanah Putih which can be seen in technical indicators and implementation of learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of developing problem-based learning, analyze the results of the device development, describe student's problem solving with problem-based learning on the scale materials on the map. This research uses research and development (R&D) type, namely 4D-Model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The developed learning tools are including; lesson plans (RPP), LKPD, and a problem-solving ability test (KPM). The results of the development of the scale learning device on the map is valid, practical and effective. The validity of the learning tools is as follows: the average RPP validation is 3.68 or 91.91% in the valid category; LKPD of 3.39 or 84.75% in the valid category; and the KPM test of 3.12 or 78% in the valid category. Therefore, based on the results of the assessment of the validator, problem-based learning tools can be used for learning activities. Practicality of learning tools: the ability of teachers to manage learning is 3.48 or the percentage of implementation is 87% with the category of good implementation; student activity in learning activities is 97.5%. Therefore, it could be claimed as effective. The effectiveness of learning tools: the percentage of changes in KPM of positive students is 75%; the increase in KPM gets an N-Gain score of 0.59 in the medium category, the completeness of percentage in classical learning is 90% thus, it could be claimed as complete, while the student response in positive learning is in an average score of 97 %. Based on the results of the research on the learning device scale on the problem-based map based on good criteria which is valid, practical and effective so that it can be used for learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the location of students' errors in problem solving and the causal factors based on Watson's criteria. This type of qualitative descriptive research, with the subject of three students of class X AKL 1 taken based on certain considerations according to the criteria or can be called purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques include direct observation in schools, interviews with subjects and documentation. Triangulation techniques used for data analysis include data reduction, presentation and conclusion drawing. From the results of the analysis, it was found that four types of errors were located inimproper procedures, indirect manipulation, missing data and missing conclusions. The cause of the error is students lack understanding of material concepts, being careless in reading questions, forgetting formulas, being in a hurry, and new factors are found, namely students use other paper to write down the completion steps. The results of the study can explain in detail the errors made by students in solving problems, so that it can minimize the occurrence of similar errors and improve the learning process of mathematics.

Abstract

Mathematics is found in many activities of traditional culture. However, many perceive that mathematics is culture-free. Based on the occurring phenomenon, ethnomathematics study is made as the connector between mathematics and culture. The presence of ethnomathematics provides many opportunities to discover unique mathematical ideas exist in the traditional culture. This research aims to explore mathematical ideas in the layout of tui gubuk and the architecture of Segenter traditional house that can be made as mathematics learning sources. This study was a qualitative research with ethnographic method. This study was conducted in the traditional village of Segenter, Sukadana Village, Bayan District. Data were collected through an observation and interviews with Adat figures, cultural anthropologists, and traditional leaders who have the knowledge of the customs and culture of Bayan people, which consisted of three informants. Research results indicate that there are mathematical ideas in the layout of tui gubuk and the architecture of Segenter traditional house that can be made as the learning sources of mathematics and can be developed in mathematics learning, especially in materials of set and geometry, both geometry of space and flat geometry.

Abstract

The aims of this study is to produce android-based learning media on building materials to explore spatial abilities and to determine the quality of the effectiveness of students' spatial abilities after using these learning media. The research subjects were material experts, media experts, mathematics teachers and 25 students of MTs Al-Ishlah Cihaurbeuti class VIII. The research method used is R&D with Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) model. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, unstructured interviews, tests and questionnaires. Meanwhile, the instruments used are spatial ability test questions, material expert validation sheets and media experts, student and teacher response questionnaires. This study resulted in an android-based learning media that was packaged in the form of an application (.apk) on solid figure material to explore spatial abilities and was in the valid category very suitable for use for junior high school students. The resulting product is effective for exploring spatial abilities as seen from the calculation of Effect Size with a value of 1.32 in the "strong effect" category. This means that the learning media can be used as a learning resource to support mathematics learning in solid figure materials.

Abstract

The implementation of online learning in computational mathematics courses has encountered various obstacles in addition to the decline in student learning outcomes. Therefore, research is aimed to explore student perceptions of online learning that has been carried out. The research used a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were students of the Information Technology Faculty of Unisba Blitar who had taken computational mathematics courses during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results showed that students had a positive perception of the aspects of the learning process although some students felt difficulty understanding theory and skills improvement. Positive perceptions are also shown in the competence aspect of lecturers, who become facilitators in the learning process. Furthermore, in the aspect of facilities and infrastructure, positive perceptions are shown in the ease of access to learning materials, the availability of online learning tools and the use of video conferencing in learning. Meanwhile, the negative aspect is shown in the fulfilment of the internet quota for online learning.
