Abstract

This study aimed to understand the story of the journey of Sufi adherents while on a spiritual journey exploring several countries in the novel Richlatu-Ibnu Fathumati by Najib Machfouzh. This research used Carl Thompson's (2011) travel writing theory approach, which has three basic principles: reporting the world, revealing the self, and representing the other. The results of the study show that the Qandil journey is presented in three forms: (1) reporting the world in the form of stories about the conditions of the surrounding environment in the form of buildings, communities, and the natural surroundings; (2) revealing the self in the form of Qandil's feelings, emotions, and reactions during the trip. (3) representing the other: the reality of life at the place where Qandil stopped during the trip, which turned out to be a different culture from the cultural reality he had encountered in his home country. This research becomes important when the background of the traveller turns out to influence three narrative forms: reporting the world, revealing the self, and representing the other.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how the development of nabr al-ashwat al-arabiyyah material improved the Arabic speaking skills of Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta Junior High School students. This research utilised a research and development method with the ADDIE model, namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The data collection process employed observation, questionnaires, interviews and tests. The results explain that judging from the average pre-test value, it can be said that nabr material has proven effective in improving the speaking proficiency of the material Arabic lessons in grade IX of Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta Junior High School students. The researcher concluded that the development of nabr material from the pre-test results obtained an average value (mean) of 60.27, the minimal value being 48, the maximum value being 70 and the standard deviation being 6.036. while in the post-test table the average student score (mean) is 82.77, the minimum value being 70.00, the maximum value being 98.00 and the standard deviation being 8.149, which was proven by the effectiveness test using the JASP application. The paired samples t-test showed an increase in self-regulation (t (36) = -21.761, p <.001). This data shows that the p-value is <0.05; hence, it can be concluded that the data is significant. Furthermore, the Cohen's d table shows an effect of -3.627.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve Arabic speaking skills textbooks which were developed in such a way that interactive exercises and topics were adapted to the student’s language by adding appropriate vocabulary and pictures to the learning material. This research was used as a template for ADDIE's research and development (R&D). The study sample was first-grade students at the Mawaridussalam Islamic Boarding School, with class 1C (30 students) used to assess student interest and the textbooks’ effectiveness. The data were collected by observations, interviews, and tests before qualitative and quantitative analyses. The significance of the average student’s test score after using the designed textbook (80.50) was higher than the average score before using the textbook (59.17) to learn Arabic speaking skills. These results confirmed that the proposed educational approach is practical, simple, and attractive.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to classify the results of the dissertation, describe the research method, and present the final findings. The research method used descriptive analysis with the main dissertation data for 2012–2022, using the Milles and Huberman model analysis technique. The research result was that the focus of the dissertation study spread to ulum al-lughah and maharah al-lughah; however, it swelled to the development of teaching materials. The dissertation was written using qualitative and quantitative research models, with the type of R&D development model adapted by Borg and Gall as the majority. The final dissertation formulation looked at the characteristics of the teaching materials in each approach, theory, and frame used. For the feasibility of teaching material products at a feasible level and effectively improving language skills and knowledge. From the results of the assessment, there was no expert validation, which showed low results, and the effectiveness test failed.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the Arabic–English Pocket Dictionary (Cory) Based on Symbolic Art to increase Arabic vocabulary mastery in elementary school. To find out how Cory is implemented and increased, this research uses classroom action research methods. Classroom action research (CAR) is a research method whose implementation is carried out to find out problems in the learning process as well as steps that teachers can take to improve the quality of learning, which refers to the research implementation process, consisting of four stages, namely (1) Planning, (2) Actualing, (3) Observation, and (4) Reflecting (reflecting in general on the research process). This must be done in at least two cycles if it shows the target that has been determined. The research process was carried out in two cycles. The results of the first and second cycle post-tests obtained an average score of 76 and 95, respectively, with learning completeness results in each cycle of 70% and 100%. Thus, the percentage increase in student learning outcomes is 30%.

Abstract

The purpose of this scientific study was to analyse the HOTS-based test for assessment of reading skills and innovation in the Arabic textbook for grade XI published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2020. This research used library research. The primary data source comes from an Arabic textbook, and the secondary data source comes from relevant research. The results of this study indicate that some of the assessments used in the grade XI Arabic textbook published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs have implemented tests at the HOTS cognitive level. In the textbook, there are 8 test items that fall into the realm of HOTS, containing 3 main test instruments, the rest of which only get repeated in the next chapter. This shows that there are still limited test instruments that contain the HOTS cognitive domains used in the textbook. In this study, there are 10 test instruments that contain the HOTS cognitive domain. Of the 10 test instruments given, there are 7 new ones, namely: finding the main idea, finding the message, finding the title, analysing relevant information, evaluating ideas, assessing the author's impression, and providing new ideas from the reading text. The innovation of this test instrument is explained with an overview of the implementation of each test instrument that contains the HOTS cognitive domain so that it can be understood and used for the development of Arabic reading skills test instruments.

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the use of word-chain games as a strategy in teaching Arabic spaking skill (maharah al-kalam) . This study used a qualitative approach where data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The qualitative analysis methodologies of Miles and Huberman were used for this study. Qualitative analysis consists of three steps after data collection: data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification. Based on the results, maharah al-kalam learning using word chain games has an impact on the quality of the process, as evidenced by increased results. Students become more active, and their motivation increases. Improving the quality of the learning process is evidenced by the active participation of students in responding to teacher statements as well as their enthusiasm in perfecting sentences spoken by other groups. Learning outcomes are getting better, but fluency and memorization of vocabulary cannot be improved using the word chain game. According to observers and practitioners of Arabic language education, word chains have an impact on teaching speaking skills; therefore, it is important to explain their use in Ilamic Junior High School (Madrasah Tsanawiyah).
