Abstract

Community service activities is carried out with the purpose of waste utilization water spinach, Ipomoea aquatica Forks, as a raw material alternative to artificial feed and improve the knowledge and skills of the fish farmers (the community) Village Koto Tangah in the business of making the feed / pellets fish in West Sumatra. The method used in this activity are (1) Lectures, and (2) Demonstration of making flour from waste water spinach and manufacture pellets / alternative fish feed with water spinach flour mixture. From the results of this service activities found that the knowledge and skills of Sawah Laweh farmer groups and Batang Kandis Jaya farmer groups fishing in Sungai Bangek Village Kelurahan Balai Gadang, Koto Tangah District, Padang, before being implemented service activities is still very low. However, the motivation or desire of the community farmer groups partners to undertake fish farming is huge. This can be seen from the wishes of the farmer groups partners to master the technology of waste utilization water spinach, Ipomoea aquatica Forks, as a raw material alternative to artificial feed are relatively high. Further results of this public service activities to increase knowledge and skills of the community in the development of cultured technology and alternative fish feed so that farming activities can run well in both areas partners.

Abstract

Persimmon, kesemek, buah kaki atau manggih hutan dalam bahasa minang adalah berbagai sebutan untuk buah yang dihasilkan oleh tanaman pohon Diospyros kaki Thunb. Buah kesemek mengandung berbagai nutrisi penting, anti toksik dan bahkan anti kanker. Kesemek merupakan tanaman sub tropika sehingga di Indonesia kesemek hanya beradaptasi pada ketinggian ± 1400 mdpl, seperti Alahan Panjang. Petani biasanya menggunakan anakan untuk perbanyakan, namun akibatnya tanaman membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk berbuah, lebih dari 8 tahun. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mentransfer teknologi sambung pucuk menggunakan anakan (root-sucker) sebagai batang bawah (root-stock) sebagai upaya untuk mendapatkan perbanyakan kesemek secara cepat dan tanaman cepat berbuah. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah kelompok tani Harapan Baru yang berada di Batu Bagiriek Alahan Panjang Kabupaten Solok, Sumatera Barat dari bulan Oktober hingga Desember 2016. Metode kegiatan meliputi penyuluhan, demonstrasi dan pelatihan grafting. Hasil kegiatan adalah petani meningkat pengetahuannya tentang manfaat buah kesemek, teknik budidaya dan pasca panen serta mampu melakukan grafting atau penyambungan pada kesemek menggunakan root-sucker (anakan) sebagai batang bawah. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistika menggunakan analisis Likert, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan memiliki nilai indeks 92, menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan yang dilakukan bermanfaat atau berhasil mentransfer pengetahuan dan juga keterampilan kepada petani.

Abstract

The West Pasaman area is an area that has a large enough potential for plantation and agricultural land. Kinali is one of the nagari in Pasaman Barat with an area of 489.64 km₂ is one of the nagari in this Regency which has a large carrying capacity of land and has the potential to develop cattle breeding business. Community service activities are carried out with the aim of providing information to farmers and the public about optimizing the use of "DEEA GestDect" as early pregnancy detection in popular cattle and increasing the knowledge and skills of farmers in livestock reproductive / pregnancy handling in the Kinali Pasaman Barat area. The methods used in this activity are (1) Counseling, and (2) Demonstration of the implementation of Artificial Insemination (IB) and the dissemination of technology using "DEEA GestDect" as a means of early pregnancy detection in popular cattle. From the results of the dedication activities that have been carried out, some conclusions can be drawn as follows: Knowledge and skills of farmers and communities in the Kinali Pasaman Barat area prior to the implementation of this community service are not familiar with early pregnancy detection in cattle. However, the motivation or desire of farmers and the community to undertake cattle breeding business is very large. This can be seen from the desire of farmers and the community to master the technology of early pregnancy detection technology "DEEA Gestdect" on people's cattle is very high. Furthermore, from community service activities can increase the knowledge and skills of the community in early reproductive / pregnancy handling of livestock in the Kinali Pasaman Barat area.

Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to: 1) increase knowledge and skills of breeders on reproduction performance, and 2) to increase knowledge and skills of farmers in making Urea Molases Block (UMB) feed, and 3) to grow entrepreneurship spirit in the field of animal husbandry cow. The goal of community service activities is the members of the Makmur cattle breeder group and other breeders who are not members of the group and Agricultural Extension workers who have a working area in the location of devotional activities. The method applied in this devotional activity is the method of counselling with several approaches, namely lecture / socialisation method, home visit and farming and demonstration methods. The lecture / socialisation approach is used at the time of delivery of materials related to entrepreneurial spirit, and the home visit approach is done to deliver materials related to reproductive performance, while the demonstration extension approach is applied to the introduction of Urea Molases Block (UMB) feed innovation. The result of the community service activity shows that the participation of the target of the activity of high service to the activity done by the team of dedication because besides the group members who attended also present other breeders, extension workers and even farm students who are doing Farm Experience, as well as on the discussion session many questions appear related to the material presented by the resource person and even on some aspects of the discussion are quite deep. The description of the participation of the activity is in line with the behaviour change that occurs on the target of the activity, especially the change in the cognitive aspect and the change in the psycomotoric aspect, where in the aspect cognitive the breeder knows the economic potential of the cattle breeding business and knows and skilfully arranges the reproduction of livestock especially after the mother gives birth to the child, skilled way of making UMB and how to give UMB to cattle raised.

Abstract

This article describes the results of the community service activities for training, coaching and mentoring on producer dadih groups in the District Tilatang Kamang . This activity aims to: 1) increase the motivation of entrepreneurial partners; 2) increase the insight and knowledge of maintenance management buffaloes; 3) improve the ability of the partners to diversify into multiple product dadih and 4) developing the marketing area. The results of this activity are: 1) increase the entrepreneurial spirit partner as efforts to support the development of the group; 2) Activity buffaloes maintenance management counselling can improve insight and knowledge in raising livestock breeder buffalo; 3) Training and the pilot was able to increase revenue diversification dadih and 4) The promotion and development of network marketing has been used as a marketing strategy to increase the production volume of business groups.

Abstract

The activities of devotion for farmers group Rawang Saiyo and farmer groups Tuah Sepakat in Solok Regency and South Solok Regency of West Sumatra with objective to cultivate a farm beef cattle and utilisation the land for pastura; trying to overcome the problem of inadequate enclosure conditions, lack of water stock due to leaking water reservoirs and distant water sources, the length of the sewage treatment process due to inadequate processing of sewage, lack of forage that occurs during dry season. This program is carried out with counseling methods, focused discussions, piloting and training. Science and technology implementation method is carried out by applying a number of technologies according to existing problems, namely cage repair, repair of sewage treatment plants and water reservoirs and increased production of natural pastures with the introduction of cover crop legumes, water procurement efforts to farmer groups so as to ensure the sustainable of cattle farming. Utilisation of rice straw which is a by product of rice fields that are near farmer groups through straw ammonia technology so that it can be used as an alternative to forage.

Abstract

Community service is counseling. By taking the title: Counseling Addition of Tithonia (Thitonia diversifolia) and MOL Rebung On Making Simmental Cow Manure Compost Livestock Farming Group In-Kanagarian Koto Baru Kecamatan Sungai Tarab Kabupaten Tanah Datar. This counseling is motivated by farmers in Kanagarian Koto Baru farmers to obtain fertilizer. Besides the expensive price of fertilizer is also difficult to obtain. So from that background people want to change from buying inorganic fertilizer to organic fertilizer like compost. Compost is an easy organic fertilizer. In the making takes 4-6 months. This can be shortened by the use of compost starters such as EM4 and stardex. However, this compost starter is expensive and difficult to obtain. For that then MOL (Micro Organism Local) Rebung can replace the starter is expensive. In addition to low prices, MOL Rebung is easily bred. Simmental cattle dung is the raw material of compost fertilizer. However, it still has a low nutrient. For that plus tithonia as an addition element haranya. Counseling in Kanagarian Koto Baru get great enthusiasm from the community, because the community is in dire need of compost. In counseling the community is taught to multiply the MOL starter from Rebung. This starter propagation uses bamboo shoots, brown sugar and rice washing water as the medium.

Abstract

Science and technology for the community have been applied at the Milk House Cafe located on Kiayi Kamarulloh Street, Bukik Surungan, Padang Panjang city. Along with the development of the business, this dairy café has experienced problems in formulating strategies in business development and increasing sales.One solution is the Management Information System (SIM) approach. The SIM application is conducted so that the partner's business data is complete and accurate and is available at all times. The solution to improving marketing is to make the design of the service drive simple but attractive. Orders are ordered and services are provided through a special window, while consumers remain in their vehicles. The method of implementing this program is the demonstration method. The results of program implementation are SIM applications with complete and accurate partner business data and are available at all times. SIM can provide information to support the decision-making process that the manager will take, allowing decisions to be taken faster and precisely. Processing transactions in SIM allows managers to easily supervise company assets, monitor business developments and provide reports to stakeholders. The solution to improving marketing is to make the design of the service drive simple but attractive. Orders are ordered and services are provided through a special window, while consumers remain in their vehicles. The purpose of the drive thru is to facilitate consumers who want to get products quickly but are reluctant to get off their vehicles (cars / motorbikes). This drive thru service can save consumers time to enjoy fast food. Through this service consumers stop by, can then leave within 3 minutes.

Abstract

Community Outreach (CO) activity is an object taught in the Bioconservation Lab (BIO 4012), which since three years ago added as part of lab materials. This lab is mandatory for students at fifth semester in Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Andalas University. This paper descriptively analyzes the conducts of CO as it may be considerable as part of the community services independently performed on the department or study program level. The analysis focused on the 2017’s CO activities, by comparing the proposals and reports given by the students who conducted the CO and then complemented with data gained through Focus Group Discussion on each student group. The 2017 CO activities brought up conservation and applied biology as their main topics, and targeted groups in society as well as students in elementary and middle schools. Feedbacks given by the targeted audiences complimented the CO activities as it complements the school curriculum by adding conservation and applicative biology aspects. Moreover, these activities retain potential to generally improve people awareness on the protection of environment. This study recommends the continuity of CO activity, by paying attention on some weaknesses and technical difficulties recorded on 2017 CO activities and improving it in the future.

Abstract

West Sumatra Province has relatively extensive agriculture with feed ingredients such as rice straw, Rumput Gajah and legume groups that can be used for beef cattle needs. The total area of Padang City is 694.96 km², and more than 60% of this area, about ± 434.63 km² is a hilly area covered by protected forests, while the rest is an effective urban area. While the topography of the city varies, 49.48% of the land area of Padang City is in a slope of more than 40% and 23.57% is in the slope of the slope. The eastern region consists of several sub-districts, starting from north to south, respectively from Koto tangah, Pauh, Kuranji, and Lubuk sub-districts. The Pauh region, such as the village of Lambung Bukik, belongs to the Pertides forum program (universities for villages) which collaborates with the 2019 Chancellor's MOU with the Ministry of Education PDTT) to prepare and implement programs to help build villages. Some of their income is obtained from raising livestock and farming. In general, both agricultural and livestock businesses are still carried out traditionally, so it is not surprising that the results obtained are relatively low. Cows are only ground or tethered at night, while in the afternoon they are released to look for food on the grass or in the sleeping area around the village. Only a small amount of effort has been made to raise livestock intensively by supplying and providing sufficient and regular food. The low level of livestock production is caused by the lack of knowledge of farmers in the proper way of raising livestock, also because of the lack of food both forage and the high price of concentrate. With the increase in the livestock population, it certainly requires more and sufficient forage throughout the year. However, the provision of forage has experienced serious obstacles. One of them is the existence of a dry season that causes a decrease in forage production. Therefore, the business of developing beef cattle will be more profitable if you can find alternative substitutes for conventional forage with the use of silos as feed fermentation sites. The use of agricultural products (such as rice straw) and other food crops as animal feed is expected to address the above problems. This is possible because cattle breeding is generally integrated with other farming businesses, especially food crops (rice fields) so that the results of agricultural follow-up will be available throughout the year. Therefore, there is a need for a kind of touch of feed technology with the use of agro-industry by products such as straw which are proven to be available at all times. The implementation of the application of rice straw ammoniation technology in the field with the direct administration of ammonia which has been removed and chicken manure is given. Participation and motivation of farmer groups in participating in a series of service activities is very high. Because all this time there has never been any guidance related to the technical and management aspects in the maintenance of beef cattle. Farmers already know how to manage fattening beef cattle such as giving concentrates such as coconut cake, soybean meal, fish meal, tofu pulp and bran and giving premix minerals.
