The data was analyzed by using four techniques : 1) Students’ individual score, 2) Minimum mastery criteria, 3) Normality testing and 4) Pairedt-test calculation. The result of the research showed that students’ mean score in the pre-test was 64.00 while students’ mean score in the post-test was 76.00. Finally, the result of paired t-test was 11.43 which was higher than 1.703. It showed clearly that the null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. English – Palembang-Lubuklinggau Switching, 4. Palembang – Lubuklinggau – English Switching. The use of code switching was caused by some reasons. They were: 1) Lack of vocabulary of English, 2) Habitually, and 3) Participants and setting. The dominant reason was situational code switching; a change in the situation that causes the bilingual switches from one code to others. It could be the setting, participants (subject) and norm of interaction. The researcher suggests to EFL speakers that they should increase and intensify their English vocabulary mastery, create a positive habitual in practicing English to others in their environment, especially in formal setting. Korea 'Morally Reprehensible' on Rights" by applying Van Dijk model in Critical Discourse Analysis. This research aims to describe the critical discourse analysis van Dijk model constructed by Lesley Wroughton and David Brunnstrom as the news writers on April 22, 2018 at the official The Jakarta Globe. The theory used is van Dijk critical discourse analysis model. The result and discussion of this research indicate that (1) the macro structure contained in the discourse, namely human rights abuses (2) the superstructure, the introduction is opened by US labeling China, Russia, Iran and Korea as "morally reprehensible" on rights countries and highlighted by the arguments of US Deputy Secretary of State, John J. Sullivan and US relations with those countries (3) the microstructure, in semantic analysis, the negative statements used by the US to criticize China, Russia, Iran and Korea. In terms of syntax, the conjunction ‘and’ and ‘that’ dominate the content of this news to connect each clauses. In Stylistics, choice of negative words is used. From the rhetorical point of view, the size and type of letters indicate that human rights abuses are focussed.

It was a correlational research design. Then, it also involved 13 students as a sample. Three hypotheses were posed in this study to find out the influence Suggestopedia Method toward students’ speaking ability, audio visual media toward students’ speaking ability, and collaborative suggestopedia method and audio visual media toward students’ speaking ability. The research findings showed that there was an influence of collaborative suggestopedia method and audio visual media toward students’ speaking ability of English Department of STAI Hubbulwathan Duri in academic year 2017/2018. This study used SPSS to analyze the data. The data were correlated by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (SPSS). Then, the level significance 5% = 0.05 because this study used oral test and Significant F change = 0.04. The degree of correlation between suggestopedia method and audio visual media toward students’ speaking ability is 0.689. Category between 0.5 ≤ r <0.75 is strong. So, based on coefficient correlation (r) value from the formula, 0.689 is strong. It showed that hypothesis alternative (Ha3) was accepted. In conclusion, collaborative suggestopedia method and audio visual media had a strong contribution to students’ speaking ability

Abstract

Reading comprehension strategies define as plans and sets of steps used by efficient readers to understand the text intentionally. Instruction of comprehension strategy helps students  becoming efficient readers who select and apply multiple skills suited to a text, their level of background knowledge, and intended purpose as they construct meaning. But before that outcome can be achieved, the students must be taught useful reading skills, allowed enough time for supported practice with each and be provided with models of strategies integration across multiple texts for authentic purposes.  With an effective and efficient information and suggestions available for teaching students skills, how to use them strategically for comprehension and word learning becomes essential. FIVES (Fact, Inferences, Vocabulary, Experience, Summary) strategy accomodates these high levels of competence instruction in  literacy processes and content-specific knowledge and skills.  This paper discusses theoretical background of  FIVES strategy and how this strategy might be employed in the classroom.
