Abstract

A pedestrian bridge in urban areas exists not only to overcome crossing between people and vehicle but also gives a sense of security and comfort for its users. With a variety of user characteristics, the bridge has also used for other informal purposes. This phenomenon becomes interesting to study how the users respond to the various uses of the bridge. By using accidental sampling method for one hundred respondents, the field data has analysed in a simple linear regression model with data processing software. The result shows the safety, security, comfort, continuity and attractiveness are the primary considerations of users in utilizing the pedestrian bridge. Even though the physical condition has found less-expected, the user's response has generally categorized as sufficient.

Abstract

The earth is experiencing global warming due to an increase in air temperature (greenhouse effect). This is due to the large number of greenhouse gases produced by human activities. In addition, it is also due to the reduced number of plants that absorb greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide. This condition causes the study of the greenhouse effect to become an object studied by students at school. Understanding the greenhouse effect is somewhat difficult if only understood in theory. Increasing understanding can be done by making practicum learning media. This study aims to create learning media for the Greenbox Effect Simulator to help understand the concept of the greenhouse effect. The research was conducted using control variables and independent variables (use of plants and without plants). The plants used are Caisim, Sri Gading and Anggrek. The presence of carbon dioxide (CO2) greenhouse gases can be detected by three things, namely changes in the color of the CO2 indicator, changes in temperature, and visibility of the box. The color of the CO2 indicator shows green and green yellow for Box B (with plants) which means the concentration of CO2 in normal conditions. Whereas Box C (without plants) gives a yellow color, which means that the concentration of CO2 is at high conditions. The presence of carbon dioxide gas from combustion will increase the temperature by 1.4 - 1.9 oC in Box C (without plants) and 0.7 - 1.5 oC in Box B (use of plants). The visibility of Box B shows a higher brightness level than Box C. The best plants that can absorb CO2 concentrations are orchids. The ability of orchids to absorb CO2 is assisted by their roots which also function to carry out photosynthesis. The existence of plants functions to absorb CO2 quite well when viewed from changes in temperature, color indicators and visibility.

Abstract

Women have often been the ideal target to be culturally and socially constructed within a patriarchal society. This serves as a form of gender inequality that mostly brings harm to them. In this analysis, through men’s domination and power over women, these negative social attributes were intentionally as well as politically constructed to put women as ‘deviant’. Applying Derrida’s deconstruction theory, the negative labels could be deconstructed into positive social attributes through a critical analysis on the main character, Okichi in the novel Butterfly in the Wind written by Rei Kimura. The finding posits that Okichi labeled as a “comfort woman” or “mistress” by the Shimoda’s society can be re-interpreted or given a new positive meaning as heroic action which was taken to save her family and country’s dignity

Abstract

The establishment of South Nias Regency is of course accompanied by the formation of new legislatif and executive institutions to run the government. The formation of these institutions provided an opportunity for the emergence of local Nias Selatan elites to take up positions as legislators and regional heads. Reflecting from the above view, this research is a case study that focuses on developing in-depth descriptions and explanations of the meaning of the position of legislatif members in South Nias in 2014. specifically the perspective of Peter L Berger's social construction. At a practical level, this study can be a "mirror" for local political elites in South Nias to understand the political dynamics in the district more sharply and deeply, and can be considered in formulating more appropriate strategies and tactics. The method in this study uses the phenomenology approach. This approach prioritizes human existence as something that must be interpreted or interpreted. Phenomenology in this study basically seeks to uncover and describe the meaning of the position of DPRD members for competing local South Nias elites. The conclusions in this study reveal that the reality of the meaning of office is in the view of members of the South Nias DPRD, namely as a mandate, arena of contestation, and aspects of interests. The factors underlying the interest of South Nias DPRD members towards positions were formed in two spheres, namely the individual domain and the community domain. In the individual domain, their interest in the position is motivated by four factors, namely internal motivation, external motivation, skills, and goals. While in the community domain there are three factors, namely the previous orientation, current orientation, and future orientation. The motive of South Nias DPRD members in choosing to become officials in the ranks of the government bureaucracy is to become a direct actor in South Nias regional development. Being an official for members of the South Nias DPRD is important than that position held by people who do not care about the development of South Nias. If the position is held by people who do not understand the history, culture and customs of South Nias, it will be fatal.
