Abstract

In June 2011 the PIP (Pusat Informasi Perkoperasian) magazine has been launched in releasing a list of 100 Successful Cooperative Indonesia. It has been following the tradition of the ICA Global 300 which contains a list of the most successful cooperatives from all over the world. We notice that a lot of cooperatives could be successful, however, we also are haunted by the question: “Are the successful cooperatives still have been known as ‘identity’ Coop?!” Did the cooperative have to abandon his identity in order to scoop up a successful?! This paper attemps to outline the dilemma.

Abstract

Pearls is a system of 44 financial ratios which the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) employs to provide a detailed picture of credit union operations. Standing for Protection, Effective Financial Structure, Asset Quality, Rates of Return, Liquidity, and Signs of Growth, the Pearls system was originally designed and implemented with Guatemalan credit unions in the late 1980s. WOCCU now uses it worldwide to monitor the performance of credit unions, to create a universal language that each credit union can speak and understand, to generate comparative credit union rankings, and to provide the framework for a supervisory unit at the second tier. Also, Pearls presents financial variables upon which credit unions can base their business planning. In essence, Pearls was designed first as a management tool, and later became an effective supervisory mechanism.

Abstract

Logically, the cooperative have the rationality to evolve in the future. Yet the development of cooperatives is due to inconsistency in enforcing the identity itself. Because cooperatives are a collection of people, then the core issue of the development of cooperatives lies in the quality of its members. The solution to the problem of human resources in cooperative is education. This article describes two alternative solutions related to human resources education in cooperatives, namely the evolution method and revolution method.

Poverty is one of the main issues of Indonesian's social problems. This problem of poverty has been getting worse since the time of local autonomy, which brought serious imbalance in-between regions. However this problem can actually be solved if local government designed and implemented comprehensive and serious policies to battle poverty. Especially with democratic-governance based policies, which based on local-resources and local-wisdoms. This research is focused onto local governments' effort in battling poverty. This research was done on two regions which acted as samples, the region of Kendal, and the region of Deli Serdang. Based on this research, it can be qualitatively shown that policies that conform to the approach of democraticgovernance, which based on region's local-resources and local-wisdoms, are considerably effective in helping the local governments in their effort of battling poverty in their regions.

Poverty eradication programmes so far did not work effectively because it cannot distinguish between the Fungsi Sebab (F1, Cause Function) with the Fungsi Akibat (F2, Result Function) from poverty. Poverty more responded according to the framework Fungsi Akibat (F2), so the causes of poverty not much cared for, and any attempt at tackling poverty in the end will always be charity. This article tries to assert the importance of proposing and the distinction between Fungsi Sebab (F1) and Fungsi Akibat (F2) to understand and explain the phenomenon of poverty, especially those occur among farmers.
