Abstract

Quran in Islam has role as the highest source which is used in formulating laws, and other regulations concerning the relation between the creature and his creator and creature with other creature. One of surah in Quran is surah Luqman, which consists of many advices of a man whose name is Luqman. It is so special because there are educational aspects which can be learned from this surah. Luqman in delivering his advices is not by the way of saying in a harsh manner, but by the way of full of affection, which is shown in his hearty calling to his son by the word bunayya (my son). In educating be desirable that must be based on or surrounded by the affection feeling to the students. This research tends to be descriptive qualitative research since it does not deal with number at all, which describes about semantics aspects and the message involvement used in the English translation of surah Luqman done by Taqqi-ud-Din and Muhsin Khan. The result shows that there are three categories of meaning can be found in this discussion, they are lexical meaning, sentential meaning, and discourse meaning, they almost can be found in every part of surah Luqman. Moreover, there are several messages involved in surah Luqman such as, they are Quran guarantee the success of people who believe in God, the advisees of Luqman to his son, and the authority of God upon this universe is absolute and the impact of denial of it.

Abstract

Acquiring English, for several students, can be very tough especially for student that have already used Indonesia language in daily learning. In this extent, The student are seemed in the boundary of learning not acquiring English. In learning English, the student in Ikip Budi Utomo tend to use Bahasa Indonesia, especially who study English Special Purpose in Ikip Budi Utomo. Making use of Bahasa Indonesia might help them a lot in learning English. The researcher, then, was eager to figure out in what way the students who study English Special Purpose in Mathematic department were assisted by Bahasa Indonesia in learning English Special Purpose. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research design.

Abstract

Current methods for teaching reading comprehension tend to emphasize the products of comprehension and neglect the processes of comprehension. Teachers often provide insufficient opportunities for learners to practice English in teaching reading. During teaching reading in a class teachers may confuse to give exercises relate to fluency or accuracy. The correlation between fluency and reading comprehension showed a significant positive relationship between oral reading fluency and reading comprehension performance. Therefore, automaticity of decoding fluency is essential for high levels of reading achievement. Assessing reading fluency, teachers need to listen to students read aloud to make judgments about their progress in reading fluency. In other side, teaching reading in accuracy exercises encourage a thoughtful use of language and the information is intended to help students understand how English works.

Abstract

The point of this article is portraying how the ways Skimming Technique can enhance the primary review understudies' Reading Comprehension Skill on News Item Text at MAN Malang 1. In light of the preparatory study, the specialist found the classroom issues of this class particularly in perusing understanding ability on News Item Text of the primary evaluation understudies of MAN Malang 1. The students got trouble to grasp perusing writings which were given by the English educator. This trouble made 80% of the understudies of this class neglected to achieve the standard least of the school, which is 78.00 in their perusing understanding, and the normal score of this class was just 66.2. In this way, the understudies' perusing cognizance aptitude on News Item message must be moved forward. This study utilized Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the exploration outline. The subjects of this study were one class of the main evaluation understudies which comprised of 37 understudies. The systems of the study secured four stages: arranging, executing, perception, and reflection. The information accumulated was as quantitative and subjective information. The quantitative information was acquired from the perusing appreciation test, and the subjective information was gotten from the understudies perception and agenda and the field note of the educating and learning process.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to reveal how multicultural based learning can increase the multicultural students' level of tolerance. The research is qualitative descriptive which the source of data is obtained from observation of the implementation of multicultural based learning in Speaking II class as well as interviews of students and lecturer. The result shows that the students' level of tolerance increases significantly after the implementation. there are four indicators which supports this claim; first based on the result of racial bias test taken by the students before and after the implementation, which the result shows significant improvement of score,; second, based on observations on every meeting focusing on four skills that become the emphasize of the study. Those skills are: multiculturalism skill, diversity skill, pluralism skill, and relativism skill. The students’ four skills are increased after the implementation of the model.

Abstract

This research was conducted to describe the moral values based on the Novel Rainbow Troops. In conducting this research, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. The objective of the study are to find the moral values in Rainbow Troops novel. The method used in this study was document study. In this study, the researcher collected the data of the research dealing with the primary data source, using documentation. The findings of the moral values that were found in the novel are Individual Moral such as Discipline, Social Moral such as, Tolerance and Mutual Help, Religious Moral such as, Religious Education, Faith and Ethics, Cultural Moral and Educational Moral. The result of this research was expected to give additional information to reader and contribute to the development of literary study particularly among students who are interested in the literary study. Therefore, this study of reading novel or other books to make meaning, enjoy with learning process. It becomes one of alternative way to improve moral crisis in our life.

Abstract

Speaking is the most fundamental skill in learning language. Unfortunately the researcher found the students’ speaking problem when she conducted preliminary study in SMP Hasanuddin. Therefore, the researcher decided to solve the problem by conducting Classroom Action Research (CAR) using “Identity Parade” game technique. It consists of four steps in 2 cycles, there are: planning of the action, implementing, observing, and reflecting of the action. The subject of this research were 17 students at eighth grade (VIIIB) . The instruments of this research were speaking test, observation check-list and questionnaire. The result of the the speaking test in this study described as; the students who passed the standard score in the preliminary study improved from 43.75% to 71.43% at the cycle 1 and 86.67% at the end of cycle 2. This case shows that there are significant improvement in students’ speaking skill and the learning process was stopped, because the score had met the minimum passing grade which is 75 %. Therefore, “Identity Parade” game had been proved that it could be one of teaching technique to improve the eighth graders’ speaking skill in describing people at SMPI Hasanuddin Dau Malang.

Abstract

Being designed in expost facto, this research intends to seek the answer of the following research quetions 1) is there a statistically significant effect of age, sex and grade difference on FL anxiety? 2) do females, older and lower grader participants score higher in foreign language anxiety? A research instrument, foreign language classroom anxiety scale, from Horwitz, Horwitz, Cope (1986) was distributed to collect the data about the level of FL anxiety which the participants have, the data then was analysed using independent t-test and Anova in SPSS 24. Performing independent t-test it was found that the t-value from age and sex group was 1,356 and 1,123 respectively, while sig. (two tailed) of the two group was .178 and . 264 which was more than 0.05. this mean that there was no siginificant defference of age and sex group in term of foreign language anxiety. In other word, females and older participants are no more anxious than males and younger participants, and vice versa. Different pattern appeared in the result of data analysis of the effect of grade on foreign language anxiety using Anova. The mean difference of grade group was found to be statistically significant with F-value 3.847 and sig. 0.025 where .025 was less than 0.05. This computation implied that grade is a significant predictor for foreign language anxiety. In broader explanation, it was proved that lower grade students in junior high school tend to be more anxious than the upper ones in senior high school and university.

Abstract

Language is one of the ways we express what in our mind is and through language we can communicate with others in our society. Based on the researcher observation at MTs NU TMI Pujon, the researcher can presume that the students of MTs NU TMI Pujon some of them has Javanese language as their mother tongue and others has Madura language as their mother tongue and they have different ability in speaking English as foreign language. Based on the test given by the researcher to some students at eight D class and analyze the data by using descriptive qualitative method, the researcher found some data. First, the researcher found that there are some differences between Javanese and Madura L1 students such as Madura L1 students got higher score in pronunciation and body language criteria, and also got higher average for all of criteria. Second, based on the data the researcher can conclude that 1ST language or mother tongue influence the students’ English speaking skill. Because, Madura language known as language that has stressing tone and intonation and most of Madura speak loudly and confidently. It makes Madura L1 students got higher score than Javanese.

Abstract

This study was done to know the parents’ involvement on children’s education at elementary school in Omesuri, Lembata Regency. The aim of the study is to ascertain how does parental involvement on students elementary education. In this case study, a qualitative research was used. Data was gathered by interviewing parents of five differents elementary school in Omesuri, who all have children that have good achivement in academic. The study found that all participants are all highly involved with their children’s education. However, not all aspects the parents involved. There were three of six aspects that the parents involved, namely parenting, communication, and learning at home. While the other three aspects were not involved, namely volunteering, decision making, and collaborating with community. The study showed that parental involvement has positive effects on students’ academic achievement on Elementary Schools in Omesuri.
