Abstract

This study examines the effect of annual growth in gross domestic product on consumption spending in the West African Countries from the period 2005 to 2020. Consumption has been a fundamental driver of economic growth, and the insufficient consumption spending will lure firms to lay off workers which can lead to short run fluctuation in the economy. The study employed a dynamic panel model with a set of estimation strategies such as fixed and random effect, Anderson and Hsiao (1982) estimation, difference and System-Generalized Methods of Moment and Least Square Dummy Variable estimation methods to correctly assess how annual GDP growth affect consumption spending in these countries including additional variables such as, Lag consumption spending, foreign direct investment, consumer prices as a measure of inflation and a vector of control such as capital formation and annual population growth. The study found that annual GDP growth and Foreign direct investment has a significant impact on increasing consumption spending thus annual GDP growth is the most crucial factor for increasing consumption spending in these countries. Moreover, lagged consumption spending is also found to have a negative significantly effect in reducing current consumption spending while gross capital formation and annual population growth are found to have an insignificant effect in reducing consumption spending in all the estimates except in the Anderson and Hsiao (1982) estimation method which shows a positive relationship with consumption spending.

Abstract

COVID-19 is not the first outbreak to spread around the world. This flu disease, named by WHO as Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), is caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Ironically, several studies on COVID-19 show that this virus is genetically engineered and is not the leading cause of death for the majority of COVID-19 patients. The COVID-19 pandemic has also triggered fear and panic in the community. This study aims to determine the perception of television journalists during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This research was conducted in two Indonesian television media, namely iNews TV and Metro TV. This research used a qualitative case study methodology with a subjective paradigm. The research results showed that television journalists perceive the COVID-19 Pandemic as a real ongoing situation. Their perceptions are formed based on scientific knowledge, empirical experience, attention, and current information. The panic and fear of television journalists at the beginning of the pandemic occurred due to changes in interaction patterns and the adaptation process.

Abstract

The study is to understand the livelihood-related impact on the marginalized people due to the outburst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper also investigates the effects on child health of the vulnerable households who lost their work or job during these crisis moments. Following the fisher sampling method, 348 respondents are interviewed for quantitative and qualitative data. In this study, 20 districts from 7 divisions of Bangladesh are covered. Among the respondents, 90% said that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacts their livelihood due to income loss. This study also found that 50% of people (respondents) lost their jobs, and almost 90% of people revealed that their income level declined due to COVID-19. As a result, their dietary patterns changed significantly. Due to inadequate food consumption and marginal income, people face an acute health crisis, especially child health. They declined their food intake, ultimately maintaining their partial expenditure by borrowing from financial institutions and relatives. The empirical evidence shows that job loss and income reductions positively impact raising children's health vulnerability. Since the government did not support them properly, their survival will be threatened in the long run. So, the study shows that COVID-19 affects the daily income and consumption patterns of vulnerable households who live by daily earnings.

Abstract

The primary purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between family social support and the resilience of former drug addicts. Family social support is a person's perception of the care, appreciation, acceptance, and affection obtained from different people in the surrounding environment. Meanwhile, resilience is a person's ability to endure and not give in to difficult circumstances in his life, as well as trying to learn and be in harmony with those circumstances and then rise to the situation until it becomes better. Citing data from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in 2012 shows a surprising fact. Namely, the number of drug abusers in the age group of 10-19 years is 4.4% or around 1 million people. Based on data from the Riau Provins Narcotics Agency (BNP) stated that in drug cases in 2004, Pekanbaru occupied the first level of drug use, reaching 47 cases with narcotics criteria of 30 cases and psychotropics with 17 cases. In this study, the population taken was ex-drug addicts who had completed rehabilitation at the SIKLUS Foundation, Pekanbaru, with a total of 92 people. The sample of this research is former drug addicts at the Pekanbaru Cycle Foundation, with a total of 35 people. The data collected in this study used the social support scale and resilience scale. The sampling technique in this study used the quota sampling method. The results of this study used Pearson product-moment correlation analysis. The analysis showed a positive relationship between family social support and the resilience of the former This means that the higher the social support of the family, the more positive the resilience of former drug addicts. Furthermore, vice versa, the lower the family social support received, the more negative the resilience of former drug addicts. The implication of this study is to give suggestions to parent who has a child who is a drug addict to have some method in psychology to recover from this problem with good social support from family and resilience.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact caused by the global economic crisis, precisely the effect caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method uses a systematic literature review, using 70 scientific articles sourced from Scopus data using the Vosviewer application. The study results reveal that the transformation of the world economy after the spread of the Covid-19 virus has experienced a very significant decline, such as the Economic Growth Index in 2019. The main focus for economic actors is to stabilize the world economy. The results of this study contribute to the development of policy analysis to address the threat of a world economic recession. There are limitations in this research in the use of sources that only use the Scopus database, which is undoubtedly less diverse and non-specific. So this study cannot describe the overall economic transformation that has occurred worldwide using VOS viewer and Mendeley applications to process data. As well as in subsequent research, it is necessary to use scientific articles sourced from other reputable international databases such as the Web of Science and Dimensioned Scholars.
