Abstract

Wet cupping known as blood letting in western countries has long been done since the Hippocrates. Hijamah or cupping (other languages, coke, cupping, cupping) is a therapy that aims to cleanse the body of blood which contains toxic with thin slices or small punctures on the surface of the skin, Wet Cupping is developed as an alternative and complementary treatment, the purpose of the study is to determine the effect of wet cupping against healthy blood vein hemoglobin levels. This research method with experimental clinical test with pre and post intervention design without control group. The implementation of wet cupping is carried out at Puskesmas Palembang Campus and blood collection and blood tests at the Health Laboratory Center (BBLK) of South Sumatra Province. The sample of this study was 30 respondents with an age range of 18-22 years, the parameters seen were the value of hemoglobin levels, the treatment was carried out after 8 hours of intervention. To control confounding factors in this study, respondents before getting treatment were not allowed to exercise and heavy activities and still consume daily food without additional food. The results of the study showed a significant increase in hemoglobin levels, 8 hours after wet cupping was performed on healthy venous blood, the mean hemoglobin level was 15.08 ± 0.63, increasing to 15.45 ± 0.76. The conclusion that wet cupping affects healthy people's venous blood hemoglobin levels, it is hoped that wet cupping can be used in alternative and complementary therapies.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer suffered by women and one of the biggest causes of death for women worldwide. Later, nutrition became one of the risk factors in breast cancer outcome, one of them is vitamin D. Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D as an anti-proliferation, and inhibits tumor growth. Uncontrolled proliferation is one of the characteristics of cancer cells. Tumor growth rates become prognostic markers that can be evaluated by correlating at cellular levels such as mitosis. The aimed of this study was to analyze the relationship between vitamin D levels and mitosis index in breast cancer patients. Research with cross sectional design gathered 50 breast cancer patients who were newly diagnosed and had never received chemotherapy. The study was conducted from January 2017 - August 2018 at the Department of Surgical Oncology, RSUPH. Adam Malik Medan. Examination of plasma vitamin D levels is done by ELISA technique at the Lab. Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sumatera Utara. The mitosis index data was obtained from the medical record of the research subjects reviewed by anatomical pathology specialists at the Lab. Anatomical Pathology of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sumatera Utara. Statistical test uses Fisher Exact. The results of the study 48% of subjects had vitamin D sufficiency, 38% insufficiency and 14% had deficiency. The mean vitamin D levels in all of the study subjects were insufficiency (27.93ng / ml). In this study there was no significant relationship between plasma vitamin D levels and mitosis index in breast cancer patients p = 0.062. The insignificant relationship between vitamin D levels and mitotic index in this study shows that vitamin D not a single factors to influence the mitosis index in breast cancer patients.

Abstract

Objective of the study is to determine the correlation of placenta and birth weight in late onset preeclampsia. A case-control study, analysis prevalence was conducted in Moh Hoesin Hospital Palembang from August 2015 to August 2016. Samples were women who giving birth in Moh Hoesin Hospital Palembang. They were devided into two groups, severe preeclampsia as case group and normotension as control. Data were analyzed by X2, Exact Fisher’s and logistic regression test using SPSS 16.0. There were 180 subjects (90 cases and 90 controls). There was a positive correlation between placental macroscopic and late onset preeclampsia (p=0.009; OR=6.9), in contrast there was only one different placental microvascularisation of 16, between late onset preeclampsia and normotension, the mural or occlusive fibrin thrombi chorion (p=0.005; OR=9.9). Birth weight in late onset preeclampsia tended to be small but still in normal range and it was not statistictly significant (p=0.112; OR=10.4). There was a positive correlation between placental macroscopic and SGA baby on late onset preeclampsia (p=0.026; OR=16.6), but it wasnot proven microscopically. Placenta remains contributed to the pathogenesis of the late onset preeclampsia, but not as dominant as the early one.

Abstract

Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) archival tissue presents a readily available resource in molecular study nowadays. The quality of nucleid acid, especially mitoconhdrial DNA (mtDNA) extracted from FFPE tissue could be affected by the storage time. Thus, this study investigated if the FFPE tissue’s storage time had an effect on the quality of the extracted mtDNA at Department of Pathology RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. DNA was extracted from 16 randomly selected archival FFPE tissues in Laboratory of Pathology Anatomy, RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. The samples were grouped based on their storage time (less than 1 year and 1 to 5 yrs.’ old). The isolated DNA from each group was amplified using PCR with two primer pairs specifically designto amplify mtDNA of 320 bp and 142bp length, respectively. The PCR products were visualized by electrophoresismethod. None of the samples from both groups could be amplified witht the 320bp primers. However, the PCR result of the 149 bp primers showed positive for all of the samples from each study group. The study indicated that the storage time does not affect the quality of mtDNA isolated from the FFPE samples archived in Department of Pathology RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Furthermore, the study showed that the mtDNA extracted from FFPE tissue has been degraded, therefore, the samples are not suitable for genetic studies require a long mtDNA amplicon.

Abstract

Approximately 10 percent of newborns will require some level assistance with breathing, and a few (<1 percent) will require resuscitation in the birthing room. After resuscitation, many of these newborns require acute transport to a different facility. Stabilisation prior to transport is essential and the principles of neonatal transportation are independent of distance. Hypothermia and hypoglycaemia should be prevented in neonates during transport as they adversely affect the outcome. This article provides an overview of principles from the STABLE Program, which guides clinicians in providing postresuscitation care and pretransport and during transport stabilization for compromised newborns.
