Abstract

This article discusses about conversational implicature that occurs in Peanuts comic strips. The objectives of this study are to find out the implied meaning in the conversation between Charlie Brown with Lucy van Pelt and Lucy van Pelt with Linus van Pelt to evaluate the existence of maxim flouting and maxim violating in those conversations in relation to the four maxims such as quantity, quality, relation, and manner. Likewise, this study attempts to find out the reason for using conversational implicature in a comic strip. The writers uses a qualitative method with library research concerning to Grice’s maxim theory to analyze the conversational implicature. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that all the comics that comprise 14 comics generate conversational implicature since all the characters breach rules of maxim. The result of this analysis shows that flouting maxim of manner has the highest occurrence of conversational implicature and the least occurrences belong to flouting maxim of relation and violating maxim of quantity. Moreover, the writers concludes that to make a successful communication ideally the speaker and the hearer to cooperate in the conversation by saying explicitly so the hearer can grasp the meaning as the goal of communication is to deliver a message to the hearer.

Abstract

The process of visual communication strategies can be created into a good persuasive invitation. This study depicted the issues in the world of children when dealing with nature activity within the scope of volcano eruptions. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach and triadic, ethnographic in children psychological and behavioral conditions after volcanic eruption disaster. Research found the common thread between supporting and main theory related to visual communication strategies. It, then, described in detail the development of communicators to become a mascot, continued on the delivery of messages through the comics, and invited the target to experience design experience.

The distinction of the stress will be shown on graphic. I used questionnaire to collect the data from the students and lecturers that I had mentioned above.

Abstract

Basic Chinese Conversation is a foundation for beginner learners. Beginner learners will learn how to pronounce voice and tone with aspirated and unaspirated sounds. Then they will learn vocabulary and basic grammar. Nevertheless in this step there are many problems in learning pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar including other issues. With these problems, the writer has intensively read and analyzed materials about Indonesian Chinese language learners’ speech difficulties and problems, then searched for the solution.

Abstract

This study talked the high power distance level between teachers and students in Indonesian society, especially in public schools. Creating two-way communication in intercultural communication that had high power distance will be a big challenge for teachers. This study used the qualitative method and the case study in of SDN Babakan 02, Setu, South Tangerang. It would see how the teacher's efforts in reducing the power distance that was in the learning process when the implementation of Curriculum 2013. Using in-depth interview and observation technique, all data needed was collected. In the end, this research has captured that teachers still need to know more about the Curriculum 2013. To share power distance as part of the curriculum is still difficult since the teachers do not have same understanding and perspective about K13.

Abstract

Currently, the majority of Chinese teaching materials used in Indonesia has general characteristic usage, and poorly addresses the true needs of Indonesia students. The Chinese teaching materials used in Indonesia are not country-specific but only translated into Indonesian language. This paper evaluated six books, consisting three types of elementary Chinese teaching materials thoroughly observed Indonesian language translation, and analyzed translation issues that occur in the Chinese language teaching materials. Through this observation, it can be seen in translation aspect, still not appropriate for Indonesian students.

Abstract

Packaging has been done long ago with a simple function that is just as protective products. Packaging is made to facilitate transactions between merchants and buyers to consider the protective factors of products of long distance travel. However, over the times, packaging has undergone a shift in priorities. Packaging is no longer merely as a protector, especially with the amount of competition between product spread on the market. Packaging should be altered so that the product is easy to remember by the community and achieve the expected sales figures. That requires some graphic factors carefully planned and through in-depth research in order to produce an attractive packaging design, global and wanted by the community. In this paper, the research object is the packaging for souvenirs from Japan, which in recent years, become a topic of conversation in the community, not only in Japan even in the world. The writing is compiled using literature study approach and study data from an electronic network used as the primary source of information from this research. With good packaging design, imaging dignity of a product will go up and get the attention of potential buyers.

Abstract

This article discusses the mindset of modernism designers: Massimo Vignelli, Wim Crouwel as opposed to the perspective of postmodernism designers: Paula Scher and David Carson on Helvetica font. This discussion becomes interesting because the leaders of the two sides are the key figures in the world of graphic design. Their opinions on Helvetica font can be used as a guide to study world’s graphic design, due to they dominate the mindset of contemporary designers.

Abstract

Tourism is an important determinant for a region’s economic growth—the higher income from tourism, the higher its gross regional domestic product. To be successful in exposing potential tourism sites, a region does not only depend on the beauty of the nature but also how to access the sites, on-site accommodation and the mutual relationship between local government and local community.The fact is many regions have difficulties in developing mutual relationship between local government and local community. It means what most important is how the tourism industry is being managed. One most important aspect of managing the tourism industry is the cooperation and communication between the local community and the government. This article aims to discuss how public relations and the local community work to stimulate tourism growth in a synergy. Using descriptive qualitative method, this article recommends a model of communication strategy—in which the local community serves mainly as the tourism’s public relation agents, and also serves as a reference method in evaluating a local government’s communication strategies in regional tourism industry.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to acquire, collect and analyze data needed to realize the design of short animated 3D films with a folklore theme which is presented  with a visually appeal to interest spectators, especially children, so the moral message can be conveyed. The research method is to survey directly to the field, namely the cultural center of Indonesia TMII, playground and library. In addition to the literature media such as books, magazines and journals and supported with references from the internet media relating to the topic. Results to be achieved are for the moral message conveyed in this animated folklore film can be received and understood by the audience, especially children. Conclusion at the present time, visual communications media such as movies and television shows are very popular among children. So by using the medium of animated films, children will be more interested and may like local folklore again, since local productions are not of lesser quality than the outside impressions.
