Abstract

Clustering is one of the main methods in data mining that useful to explore the data. One conventional clustering methods namely the K -Means algorithm efficient for large dataset and numeric data types but not for categorical data type. K-prototype algorithm eliminates the limitations of the numerical data but can also be used on categorical data. But the solutions generated by the algorithm is a local optimal solution in which one of the causes is the determination of the initial cluster’s center. Deal with these problems, the genetic algorithm was proposed for solving this global optimasitation problem. The results of the study indicate that the cluster’s center optimization with genetic algorithm success to improve the accuracy of the results of the cluster with K–Prototype algorithm.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the elasticity of the floor grain price policy on domestic rice production. The analysis uses two stage least square regression. The study used secondary data from 1982 to 2013, which came from: BULOG, Ministry of Agriculture, BPS, and FAO. Research unit is Indonesian territory. The study concluded that the floor grain price has a significant positive effect on rice production with an elasticity of 0.034 in the short term and, 0.524 in the long term. This means that changes in the floor grain price in explaining domestic rice production are not elastic in the short term but are more elastic in the long run.

Abstract

Labor is part of the population that is capable of doing the work to produce goods and services. Therefore, workers need to be empowered optimally in order to drive the economic process. According to Keynes, one of the efforts that can be done is fiscal policy by increasing government spending leading to a reduction in unemployment. However, in West Java this expectation was not realized. West Java has a large government spending, but its labor absorption is not high. It is shown from the percentage of the working population of the labor force in West Java in 2012 remained below national. This study determines the effect of government education, health and infrastructure expenditures on economic growth and employment in West Java. The recursive equation mode is employed, showing that education and infrastructure spending have positive effect on economic growth and employment. Health expenditure prove to be insignificant. In addition,in West Java, economic growth has positive effect on employment.

Abstract

Multicolinierity between variable predictor in multiple regression is assuming violation for ordinary least square estimator (OLS). Ridge Regression (RR) and Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR were used to handle the multicolinierity problem. RR modify OLS by adding subjective bias consatant, while PLSR, generalize and combine Principal Component Analisis and multiple regression. The efficiency of these two methods will be compared based on the value of RMSE. This study simulated generating data in different level of multicolinearity, the number of variabel, and number of observation were controlled. This study results that, overall, both method equally efficient.

Abstract

Determining for distribution of rainfall is a very important part in determining the plans of rainfall in a region. This study used daily rainfall data in 1992-2009 from three rainfall stations, namely Gunung Mas, Citeko and Gadog. Thiessen polygon method is used to determine the average rainfall region. The distribution of rainfall is determined by using statistical analysis with Chi-Square test. Based on the results of distribution suitability testing by using Chi-Square (χr2) with significance (α) we obtained χr2 value of 6.50 while the χr2 table is 7.185. Since the calculated χr2< χr2 table, then the Gumbel distribution is eligible. So that the distribution pattern of the right to Ciliwung upstream is the Gumbel distribution. The amount of planned rainfall-plant the upstream Ciliwung watershed based on the Gumbel distribution for the return period of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 years, respectively are 70.98 mm, 88.98 mm, 99.55 mm, 113.93 mm , 124.59 mm and 135.18 mm.

Abstract

Age data collected through census or survey often experience errors, especially in reporting age data (age missreporting) related to the selection of certain numbers (digit preference) which are usually ages that end with the number 0 (zero) or 5 (five). The existence of this preference digit which results in the age distribution becoming enlarged or accumulated on the numbers ending with 0 and 5, which in demography is known as age-heaping. Evaluation of the quality of age data from the results of the 2010 Population Census in this study focused more on data on the number of deaths by age is very necessary. This data will be evaluated using the Whipple Index (IW) and Myers (IM) Index. The technique of smoothing local polynomials in non-parametric regression with IW and IM resulted in the conclusion that there was age heaping in the data that became the object of this study so that data needs to be smoothed with local polynomial techniques.

Abstract

The economic development of a country depends on the amount of foreign direct investment (FDI), including in the Indonesian six economic corridors. The huge gaps of conditions in economic corridors are expected to differences infactors affecting the FDI-inflow into the corridors. This study uses a panel data regression to analyze factors behind the FDI-inflow in each economic corridor and to determine the FDI characteristic in each economic corridor. It shows that the proportion of government capital expenditure, number of highly-educated labor force, trade openness, and the proportion of oil and mineral export affect the FDI-inflow only in some economic corridors. Furthermore, it indicates that, while market seeking FDI occurred in all Indonesian economic corridors, resource seeking FDI was only found in Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua economic corridors.

Abstract

Income inequality is one of economic development indicators. As a kind of inequality indicators which is commonly used in Indonesia, gini coefficient is published as a point estimation. This estimation are lacking in its function as an estimator because it doesn’t considerate the probability accuration of the estimate value. Thus, the confidence interval estimation is needed as a comprehensive estimator. The objective of this study is estimate the standard errors and confidence intervals Gini coefficients with the bootstrap method. This study used National Social Economics Household Survey for West Papua Province in 2013. The Gini coefficient that used is a bias-corrected gini coefficient as consideration the bias in the calculation. The standard error of bias-corrected gini coefficient in West Papua is carried out of two data, which are the original sample and resample nonparametric bootstrap method. This research found out that bootstrap-t confidence interval confidence interval is the best confidence interval since it has the smallest standard error and shortest interval.

Abstract

Currently, social media is used massively in various societies. Facebook is one of the greatest social media in terms of total and frequency of uses, as well as the number of collected information, especially the information about relationships between entities. This study identifies preference of active STIS’s students based on their Facebook account. Their Facebook accounts are collected from their Facebook group communities. The preference data are collected by crawling the liked pages and joined groups. The results of this study are the characteristics view of students’ preferences in form of statistics of interesting topic types and visualization of students’ clusters for certain topics. Approaches used in this research to extract and analyze data in social media could become a reference for another research fields which use social media data.

Abstract

Differences in managing the resources and capabilities of the regions in various districts/cities in Java has led to differences in development. Some of the problems in these resources are as follows: 1) flypaper effect on local government capital expenditure 2) labor with low education that is not absorbed in the work 3) Foreign Direct Investment concentrated in certain areas. This study aims to analyze comparison effect of govenrment capital expenditure, labor with less than or equal to high school graduates, labor with more than or equal to diploma 1 graduates, and foreign capital on economic growth between type classification of district/city in Java Island. Type classification of district/city was determined by tipologi klassen analysis. This study use a regresion panel data Fixed Effect Model cross section weight with robust coefficient covariance cross section SUR (PCSE). The research concludes that government capital expenditure and foreign capital have a significant and positive impact on economic growth in type 1 district/city (income per capita and economic growth above median) and type 4 (income per capita and economic growth below median). Labor with more than or equal to diploma 1 graduates have a significant and positive impact on economic growth in type 1 district/city (income per capita and economic growth above median). Labor with less than or equal to highschool graduates have not a significant impact on economic growth in every type classification of district/city.
