Deiksis is a journal that aims to be a peer-reviewed platform and an authoritative source of information. We publish scientific works from national and international lecturers, researchers, students, and practitioners to present their new ideas, concepts, and theories in Indonesian language and literature education focused on Language Learning and Indonesian Literature, Class Action Research (CAR) of the teaching of Language and Indonesian Literature, Indonesian Linguistics and Literature, Linguistic and Literary analysis as well as related topics. All articles are peer-reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers. Deiksis is managed to be issued twice in every volume. The scope of Deiksis is Indonesian Language and Literature Learning Model, Assessment and Evaluation of Teaching Indonesian Language and Literature, discourse analysis, pragmatics, anthropolinguistics, language and culture, dialectology, language documentation, cognitive linguistics, language education, translation, language planning, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and other scientific fields related to language studies.

Abstract

Masyarakat seringkali mengeluhkan tayangan iklan televisi yang dianggap memberikan pengaruh buruk kepada anak-anak. Padahal Dewan Periklanan Indonesia melalui Etika Pariwara Indonesia (EPI) telah membuat petunjuk dalam membuat iklan yang ideal bagi pelaku periklanan. Melalui EPI dan bahan-bahan yang lain, masyarakat dapat mempelajari dunia periklanan dan ikut berpartisipasi dalam pengawasan tayangan iklan. Hal ini tidak hanya menyelamatkan generasi selanjutnya, namun juga meningkatkan kuliatas industri periklanan Indonesia.Kata kunci: Etika Periklanan, Pelanggaran Etika Periklanan Televisi, Pengawasan masyarakat

Abstract

This article discusses the perspective of modern and the latest up date of teaching technique through deliberative methodology which means consultative. In this case, deliberative focuses on how to employ speech communication, discussion on debate, drama on role play, simulation and presentation. Those has something to do with speaking ability, I can say mostly spoken takes big part in developing language master. Here, I emphasize that this approach is more available to be applied for students who has capability in speaking. In the other hand, students who are poor in speaking will be able to speak fluently as long as they have good motivation, confidence and knowledge about problem discussed. Furthermore, the deliberative technique approach looks more systematic so that teachers can do the teaching steps based on the cronology concept or planning teaching map.Key Word: Speech, presentation, debate, role play, simulation.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kesalahan sintaksis pada karangan eksposisi siswa kelas XI SMA Bina Spora Mandiri Cigombong, Bogor. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode analisis isi (content analysis) dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Karangan eksposisi siswa yang diteliti berjumlah 31 karangan. Pada karangan tersebut ditemukan sebanyak 92 kalimat salah. Jenis kesalahan sintaksis yang ditemukan terdiri atas kesalahan pada pilihan kata/diksi sebanyak 64 kalimat atau 24,33%, kalimat yang berstruktur tidak baku sebanyak 62 kalimat atau 23,57%, kesalahan pada ketidaktepatan bentuk kata sebanyak 53 kalimat atau 20,15%, kalimat mubazir atau pleonasme sebanyak 44 kalimat atau 16,73%, %, kalimat yang tidak memiliki logika atau mengalami kesalahan nalar sebanyak 23 kalimat atau 8,75%, kontaminasi atau kerancuan kalimat sebanyak 16 kalimat atau 6,08%, dan kalimat yang ambigu sebanyak 1 kalimat atau 0,38%. Diharapkan hasil penelitian ini dapat dipergunakan untuk menentukan langkah-langkah dalam proses pembelajaran, menyusun materi pembelajaran secara bertahap dari yang mudah ke yang sukar, dari yang sederhana ke yang rumit, dan sebagainya.Kata Kunci: tipe-tipe kesalahan sintaksis, karangan eksposisi

Abstract

Language and culture are two parts of cannot be separated each other, because culture is in language. The other side, to study English language as a foreign language in Indonesia, as same as study the English’s culture.To understand the culture is means to make a communication be fluently between the speakers and make the effective communication because culture as a basic of communication. To communicate is not only talk about the understanding of linguistic, but must understand about the paralanguage include kinesics, tone, the characteristic of sound, gesture and the expression of face that we can see when the interaction by communicate is happen. By the growing of America, the America culture become a means for the English students, especially for the young generation in many countries like the people in Indonesia, the table manner, relationship, and the life style become the size of somebody status. This life style become the growing reflection of somebody that have been followed by the people in many countries in the world, and this life style become a symbol of individual social status. The electronic media such as television, film, etc that have been successed to make the students of Indonesia bring the America-English and their life style be popular. Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas ideologi tokoh perempuan Tina dalam novel Kleting Kuning karya Maria A. Sardjono yang berkisah tentang seorang gadis cantik yang berpenampilan dan berkelakuan seperti laki-laki. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pandangan feminisme terhadap ideologi tokoh Tina dalam novel Kleting Kuning.Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif dan pendekatan feminismedengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis teks.Sedangkan teknik yang digunakan adalah teknik analisis gender.Data dari penelitian ini berupa data verbal. Paparan bahasa dari pernyataan tokoh yang berupa dialog, monolog, dan narasi yang ada dalam novel Klenting Kuning karya Maria A. Sardjono. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah peneliti sendiri, karena data yang diperoleh dari dokumen, berupa data verbal atau tulisan.Dalam penelitian ini, kedudukan peneliti adalah sebagai perencana, pelaksana, pengumpul data, penganalisis, penafsir data, dan pelaporan hasil penelitiannya. Dalam hal ini peneliti bertindak sebagai pembaca yang aktif, terus menerus membaca, mengamati, dan mengidentifikasi satuan tutur yang sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian, kemudian menafsirkan dan melaporkan hasilnya untuk membantu peneliti dalam mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data penelitian digunakan instrumen pembantu berupa paduan kodifikasi data. Deskripsi pembahasan difokuskan pada karakter tokoh Tina dalam paham feminisme.Hasil pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa ideologi tokoh Tina menggambungkan karakter maskulin dan feminim.Kekuatan yang menjadi ciri maskulin dalam pandangan tradisional berpadu dengan kelembutan ciri feminim.Kombinasi ini membantu Tina menjalani kehidupan dengan baik dalam lingkungannya.Kata kunci: Feminisme, novel, dan ideologi perempuan

Abstract

There are many aspects connected with vocabulary learning so that English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners have to know and understand vocabulary learning strategies to improve their vocabulary. A vocabulary strategy is a special instructional tool and way of going about directly or explicitly as well as independent word learning skills required to learn words independently. Dealing with the reasons, the main purpose of the present research is to investigate the use of vocabulary learning strategies employed by EFL undergraduate students in the third semester, academic year 2014/2015, majoring English Education at Indraprasta PGRI University. According to Schmitt’s classification, vocabulary learning strategies for this research are classified as determination, social, memory, cognitive, and metacognitive strategies. The research data were collected by using Schmitt’s Vocabulary Learning Strategies (VLSQ). There were 137 undergraduate students from semester III of English Education Program were involved in this research. The results of descriptive statistics showed that they were as medium strategy users with the mean score of 3.26 and standard deviation of 0.93 for overallstrategy use. Furthermore, the most frequently strategies used were metacognitive strategies while the least frequently strategies used were cognitive strategies.Keywords: Vocabulary Learning Strategies, EFL Undergraduate Students

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memotivasi peserta didik tingkat SMP di lingkungan RT 003 RW 08 Jati Jajar II Kelurahan Jati Jajar, Kecamatan Tapos, Kota Depok, akan pentingnya keterampilan berbicara Inggris. Keterbatasan biaya dan kurangnya kesadaran akan pentingnya penguasaan bahasa asing (Inggris) merupakan faktor yang menyebabkan sebagian besar peserta didik memiliki pengetahuan dan penguasaan bahasa Inggris yang rendah. Oleh sebab itu, kami memberikan materi dalam bentuk penggalan film Frozen ditambah dengan ice breaking dan games. Pemelajaran disampaikan melalui tiga tahapan, yaitu pre viewing, film viewing, dan post viewing. Peserta didik SMP berpartisipasi aktif dalam proses pemelajaran dan diharapkan mampu mempraktikkan percakapan secara berpasangan sesuai dengan tema penggalan film yang telah dipersiapkan. Tiga penggalan film Frozen antara lain: Act of True Love, Happy Ending, dan Anything You Can Do. Di akhir pengajaran, kami melakukan penilaian, evaluasi, serta memberikan apresiasi kepada peserta didik yang aktif dalam proses pemelajaran.Kata Kunci: Film Frozen, Keterampilan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the relationship between vocabulary knowledge and learning motivation toward the students’ reading comprehension. The instruments include one questionnaire and two tests distributed to analyze the data quantitatively. In conclusion, this research found to both vocabulary knowledge (X1 ) and learning motivation (X2) contributed the reading comprehension (Y). In other words, the more vocabulary the students have and the more their motivation in learning, the greater they comprehend the text would be. As a consequence, it suggests that the teachers teach the appropriate vocabulary to the students where these vocabulary will help them in comprehending the reading text.Key words: Vocabulary knowledge, learning motivation, students’ reading comprehension

Abstract

The goal of this research is to analyse and prove the correlation between grammar mastery and students’English narrative writing skill at the 11th grade of SMK Negeri 2 Depok. Research data was collected by giving multiple cohoice tests of grammar and narrative writing skill. Furthermore, the data was analyzed quantitatively in order to know correlation coefficient, determination coefficient and signifinancy coefficient as part of hypothesis test. Data analysis was conducted with ? = 0,05. Based on the result of hypothesis test, the researcher has found the significant correlation of grammar mastery and  students’ English narrative writing skill.  Kata Kunci: Penguasaan Tata Bahasa, Ketrampilan Menulis Narasi
