Abstract

Abstract–Wood consumption as building material and component in Indonesia is still considerably high. This affects forest destruction, in a way that most of the wood production still roots from wood forests. Hence, the demand of these woods better be supplied from other source, one of them is through using used woods. Used wood utilization in building construction is an application of reuse and recycle strategy in sustainable material concept. Due to the assumption among the people that used woods have low performance its utilization is nowadays limited. This paper addresses the result of research and laboratory test on a range of used wood samples collected from Jakarta great area (Jabodetabek), consist of 5 technical parameters: water content, density, compressive strength, flexure strength, and tension strength. The research proves that based on certain parameters, used woods perfom technical capacity as good as – or even better than – newly produced woods.Keyword –  sustainable, material, used wood

Abstract

Observations and measurements have been conducted towards a solar panel electric power output that is utilized by a solar tracking system. The electrical power output depends on the position of the sun and time and the direction of the panel surface against the angle of the incident light. For power optimization, the solar panel surface should always be directed perpendicular to the direction of the sunlight falling to the surface of the panel. The application of the solar tracking system controlled by a micro controller gives the expected results. The electrical power output of a static solar panel mounted on a fixed position becomes the benchmark of the output electric power value in this study. The measurement results of the electric power output of the solar panel with sun tracking system shows a significant increase in sunny weather conditions. The average increase of that is about 57.3%.Keywords: LDR, micro controller, optimal power output, performance improvment, sun tracking,

Abstract

Abstract—Background:The ability of reproductive disorders in men and experimental male rat is characterized among other things by a decrease in androgen such as testosterone levels. Materials of pasak bumi root (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) increased libido behavior of experimental male rat. Libido associated with higher levels of testosterone, it is therefore necessary to evaluate the effect of pasak bumi on androgen levels such as testosterone. Methods: Male rats at 9.00 am treated controls and pasak bumi, then at 14.00 pm tempted with estrus female rats 10 minutes. Then, both control and pasak bumi blood  samples were collected from male rat heart on day 1st  and day 3rd  at 14.15 pm. Measurement of testosterone levels were calculated using radioimmunoassay (RIA). Results: An increase in serum  testosterone levels in the blood on day-3rd  administration pasak bumi boiled water 18 mg/200 g dose  significantly different than the  control within day 1st to 3rd. The average levels of testosterone administration control (boiled water of aquades) day 1st = 0.50 ng/ml, day 3rd = 2.46 ng / ml, increased markedly on pasak bumi treatment day 1st = 4.00 ng / ml and day 3 = 9.73 ng / ml, (Duncan test, α=0.05). Conclusions: Testosterone levels can be increased markedly after the consumption of the pasak bumi boiled water for 3 days. Keywords—Pasak bumi, a dose of  18 mg/200 g, testosterone.

Abstract

Abstract—Waste and other second-hand goods management in Indonesia are still not properly managed, while used products still have their economic value. E-waste is one of many second-hand goods that are not handled properly. E-waste is defined as the rubbish of electronic products. Mobile phone is one of the electronic products that are almost used by most of Indonesian people, ranging from people having low income to those having a huge income. The influence of lifestyle makes mobile phone lifespan is very short. High level of consumption and short life time make mobile phones are not used accordingly and quickly become waste. When this waste is not managed properly then it will accumulate and damage our nature, because almost all mobile phone components are non-organic materials. Used mobile phones still have economic value and some of their components can be recycled or reused. Therefore this study focuses on promoting reverse handling management of used mobile phones from the Indonesian consumers. The main strategy is aligned with Reverse Logistics concept where value recovery and proper disposal become the main consideration. In this design, a strategy will be discussed throughout the stakeholders who will be involved in the return process so the process can run effectively and efficiently. Consideration of recycling or reusing used product can reduce the retrieval of raw materials from the nature. The problem solution will certainly have an impact on our natural resources balance. When this strategy works successfully then it will certainly contribute in preserving of nature. Keywords— economic value, e-waste, recycle and reuse, reverse logistic, used product.

Abstract

Abstract – An examination of shoreline retreat is conducted over the muddy coast in the vicinities of the port of Belawan. The related sea level rise is estimated using the well-known Bruun Rule based on the characteristics of mud profile prevalent along the eastern coast of North Sumatera Province. The spatial analysis involved is done utilizing the concept and procedure of GIS. The averaged shoreline retreat over the hot spot area of erosion, i.e. 18 m per year, implies that the relative rate of sea level rise is in the range of 14 to 18 mm per year, indicating an extremely severe rate. In addition, three other cases of simple GIS applications related to coastal water of the port are spatially demonstrated.  Keywords –  coastal water, coastal erosion, sea level rise, and GIS

Abstract

Inward-turning external compression intake is one of the hybrid intakes that employs both external and internal compression intakes principle. This intake is commonly developed for hypersonic flight due to its efficiency and utilizing fewer shockwaves that generate heat. Since this intake employ less shockwaves, this design can be applied for low supersonic (Mach 1.4 - 2.5) intakes to reduce noise generated from the shockwaves while maintaining the efficiency. Other than developing the design method, a tool is written in MATLAB language to generate the intake shape automatically based on the desired design requirement. To investigate the intake design tool code and the performance of the generated intake shape, some CFD simulation were performed. The intake design tool code can be validated by comparing the shockwave location and the air properties in every intake's stations. The performance parameters that being observed are the intake efficiency, flow distortion level at the engine face, and the noise level generated by the shockwaves. The design tool written in MATLAB is working as intended. Two dimensional axisymmetric CFD simulations validation has been done and the design meets the minimum requirement. As for the 3D inlet geometry, with a little modification on diffuser and equipping vent to release the buildup pressure, the inlet has been successfully met the military standard on inlet performance (MIL-E-5007D). This design method also has feature to fit every possible throat cross sectional shapes and has been proven to work as designed. Keywords— Inward-turning, Supersonic, Engine Intakes, Low- noise, Design Method

Abstract

Abstract—To construct a scheme of implicit Runge-Kutta methods, there are a number of coefficients that must be determined and satisfying consistency properties and Butcher’s simplifying assumptions. In this paper we provide the numerical simulation technique to obtain a scheme of 10th order Implicit Runge-Kutta (IRK10) method. For simulation process, we construct an algorithm to compute all the coefficients involved in the IRK10 scheme. The algorithm is implemented in a language programming (Turbo Pascal) to obtain all the required coefficients in the scheme. To show that our scheme works correctly, we use the scheme to solve Hénon-Heiles system. Keywords—ODEs, 10th order IRK method, numerical technique, Hénon-Heiles system

Abstract

Coal mining is one of Indonesia's important industrial sectors. However, the industry is also often seen as a major cause of landscape destruction and environmental unsustainability, especially by small-scale mining. This study aims to develop an assessment framework for small-scale mining based on the concept of lean thinking and green mining. Those concept can be used to ensure that the assessment process is oriented towards good mining practices and environmental conservation efforts. Focus of the study is coal mining business located in the city of Sawahlunto. The study was conducted using descriptive method with interview as primary data collection technique. In addition to primary data, secondary data are also collected from official documents, books, and reports on mining research in the city of Sawahlunto. Validation of criteria and indicators in the assessment framework is done using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) techniques with expert teams consisting of government, mining practitioners and academics. The proposed assessment framework consists of total 10 assessment criteria with 55 indicators
