Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa pengaruh perendaman selama 9 hari terhadap kekuatan tarik material komposit resin epoksi tanpa penguat serat dengan perbandingan 65:35, 70:30, 75:25; dan mensimulasikan laju penyerapan air selama 9 hari pada material komposit resin epoksi tanpa penguat serat dengan perbandingan 65:35, 70:30, 75:25.Polimer yang digunakan jenis resin epoksi, selanjutnya dicetak dengan ukuran 200 x 200x 4 mm dengan perbandingan antara resin dan hardener yaitu 65:35, 70:30, dan 75:25. Lalu pelat komposit direndam dalam wadah akuarium yang berisi air dari sungai Mahakam selama 9 hari, prosedur pengujian penyerapan Air sungai ini mengacu pada ASTM D 570 – 98. Setelah 9 hari pelat dipotong membentuk balok komposit polimer sesuai standar ASTM D638-02 (type 1). Setiap variabelakan diuji sebanyak 3 kali. Berdasarkan pengujian perendaman yang dilakukan pada spesimen 65:35 massanya bertambah 0.4135 %, specimen 70:30 bertambah 0.2677 %, dan spesimen 75:25 bertambah 0.4 %, sedangkan hasil uji tegangan tarik spesimen 65:35 sebelum direndam sebesar 32.333 MPa setelah direndam turun menjadi 24.46 MPa, tegangan tarik spesimen 70:30 sebelum direndam sebesar 36.3 MPa setelah direndam turun menjadi 34.793 MPa, tegangan tarik spesimen 75:25 sebelum direndam sebesar 32.993 MPa setelah direndam turun menjadi 25.803 MPa.

Abstract

Abstract—Austenitic stainless steel AISI 316L has been widely used for orthopedic implants due to its mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Machining of austenitic stainless steel are often regarded as 'difficult to machine' and classed a single group of steels, based on experience with the most common austenitic types. This paper presents a methodology for practical calculation of power demand based on cutting force that will be compared with experimental results especially turning process. Based on a previously proposed definition, the power demand in metal cutting is the energy required cutting. This paper provides a complete list of mathematical expressions needed for the calculation of power demand and demonstrates their utility for turning operation of austenitic stainless steel using coated and uncoated carbide.

Abstract

Abstract—The growth of rapid development in the big cities but without well planning in terms of fire prevention and the things that can cause a fire, for example electrical installations and gas that can either lead to frequent fires in the residential homes. The aim of the study is to prevent fires by detecting the presence of smoke and excessive heat around the house and protect the occurrence of fires that have wide impacts. The outcome of the fire protection design using smoke and heat detector based on microcontroller is to detect both smoke and heat hazards. If there is a danger of smoke or heat, then the system will provide a warning alarm, provide the path to the door emergency evacuation, and provide protection to extinguish the fire before the fire was enlarged.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of soaking the coconut fiber in alkaline fluid on absorption capability of the coconut fiber on polyester matrix. The coconut fiber is soaked in natrium hidroksida (NaOH) fluid with concentration of 20% for duration range of 1, 3,5, 7, 9 and 11 hours, then dried in room temperature then matrix polyester is given on several parts of the coconut fiber. After dried, wet ability angle is measured using digital microscope to investigate the absorption capability of the coconut fiber on polyester matrix. Every single variable will be examined for three times. Obtained data will be analyzed statistically using discriminative method and will be demonstrated in table form. Based on experiment, soaking of coconut fiber in 20% natrium hidroksida (NaOH) fluid affects on absorption capability of the coconut fiber on polyester matrix. After soaked, wet ability angle is decreased compared to without soaked. The smallest wet ability angle of 15,327o is obtained for 5 hours soak duration.

Abstract

Losses in distribution network of electrical power system with radial system topology can be calculated using Graf Theory. Graf Theory uses nodes and branches that are exist in radial network and convert them in matrices equations. This method is used to determine injection current in losses calculation in every single network branch.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the influence of shunt capacitor on losses of interconnection system of Sulselrabar transmission lines. In this study, DIgSILENT Power Factory 15.1 software is used to simulate the power flow in the system under study. There are three conditions applied in this study; real condition, in condition of all capacitors activated and in condition of all capacitors inactivated. Obtained results show that there are differences in the value of the losses among these three conditions, where the lowest losses is occurred at the second condition with 1,69% and the highest losses occurred at the third condition with 1,76%.

Abstract

The aim of this paper was to examine the effect of spatial variability of hydraulic conductivity, commonly existing in nature, on rainfall-induced failures of residual soil slopes. Parametric study was carried out at typically residual soil slopes with two distinctively different types of hydraulic conductivity, high (ks=10-4 m/s) and low (ks=10-6 m/s) conductivity, in Singapore. Finite element method was applied in this slope stability analysis using commercial SVFlux and SVSlope software in a couple manner. Rainfall intensity was varied as a fraction of the hydraulic conductivity. As a result, greater spatial variability of saturated hydraulic conductivity affects more noticeably the instability of both high and low-conductivity soil slopes exposed to high-rainfall intensity (I > 0.05 ks for high-conductivity slopes and I >1 ks for low- conductivity slopes). However, there was a negligible effect of spatial variability of hydraulic conductivity on the instability of slopes subjected to low-rainfall intensity, even this spatial variability tended to slightly increase the stability of high-conductivity slopes.

Abstract

Indonesia geographically located at tropical region where the wind is very fluctuate and relatively slow. Therefore it is important for designer to investigate the proper design of the slow wind speed turbine that applicable in Indonesia. In this paper, Savonius wind turbine is selected and modified with double level to explore its capability in generating voltage. The main aim of this study is to investigate the performance of the double Savonius turbine in term of its capability in generating voltage. In experimental test, it can be obtained that the double Savonius Turbine could effectively generate 12V at 3 m/s and 17V at 5.4 m/s.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using plastic waste Low Density polyethylene ( LDPE ) on the characteristics of a mixture of AC- WC . This study used five plastic content variation is 1 % , 2 % , 3 % , 4 % , and 5 % to determine the characteristics of the AC- WC . The method used in this study is a test that aims marshall know the characteristics , the performance of the mixture , and the optimum level of use of asphalt in the mix AC- WC . The results showed that the characteristic value AC- WC that include the percentage of plastic content obtained from the testing of 1 % -5 % of the optimum bitumen content , if the levels of plastic in bitumen is added, the value of stability , flow , and marshall quotient increase and decrease unstable , while the value of VFB and the density increases, and the value of VIM and VMA decreases.

Abstract

Maintenance for machining and production facility is an important aspect to ensure a smooth production process. During this time, it was performed regular maintenance based on technical advice from supplier’s engines which just shows things in general without considering the actual operating conditions. This paper aims to plan the maintenance strategies for the Finish Mill unit based on reliability analysis by considering the target system reliability and cost of improving reliability. The data distribution obtained the most appropriate distribution. Based on the data obtained distribution parameters, then the function of the reliability of each part an be determined so that the value of the reliability of each part and the overall system for a specific time period can be calculated. The results showed that the failure or breakdown Mill Finish Unit was majority caused by the part of 561.BM1, 531.WF1, 531.BC6, 531.BC2, 531.BC1, 561.SR1 and 531.BC3. it means that need to focus o the reliability analysis to allocate their parts.
