Abstract

This work is dedicated to the study of an improved direct torque control of the doubly fed induction motor (DFIM). The control method adopts direct torque control 'DTC' because of its various advantages like the ease of implementation which allows a good performance at transient and steady state without PI regulators and rotating coordinate transformations. To do this, the modeling of the motor is performed. Subsequently, an explanation of the said command is spread out as well as the principle of adjusting the flux and the electromagnetic torque according to the desired speed. Then, the estimation method of these two control variables will be presented as well as the adopted switching table of the hysteresis controller model used based on the model of the multilevel inverters. Finally, the robustness of the developed system will be analyzed with validation in Matlab/Simulink environment to illustrate the performance of this control.

Abstract

Several non-linear controls are developed for controlling a wind energy conversion system equipped with a DFIG double feed asynchronous generator. Exploitation of the aerodynamic power captured by the turbine gives a new instruction to the controller based on passivity by keeping the hypersynchronous regime of the DFIG. An adaptive observer MRAS was developed for the considered as a structure in which the rotor speed is estimated from the measurement of stator and rotor currents. Our goal is to maximize active power, minimize construction costs in order to control wind turbine systems using our passivity and observation method. Best results were obtained using sensorless MPPT and IDA-PBC methods.

Abstract

In this part, the implementation of the Cathodic Protection (CP) station in a new position is done due to the analytical study of the part (I) [1]. Also, a PV fed self-adjusted DC-DC converter is designed and implemented for this purpose, and Aluminum anodes designed and manufactured for the sake of approving the proposed CP station operation. A field test shows enhanced results due to the National Association of Corrosion Engineering NACE standard. An edit has been made on the main empirical formula that is previously intended for the design of the same CP system. The proposed CP station is very flexible, more accurate, of lower cost, and needs little maintenance as compared with the already existing CP station.

Abstract

This paper presents an accurate Lithium-ion battery model representation in Matlab/Simulink. The Tremblay's battery model was used as a BES model platform, where the determination of the model parameters was obtained based on heuristic optimization approach. This approach is simple but more accurate compared to the conventional method. In the classical method, it requires the user to manually select the battery model parameters from relevant points on the manufacturer discharge curves. However, this way of battery parameters extraction normally exposed to the human error and would easily result in an inaccurate selection of battery parameters for the BES simulation studies. Therefore, an easy and accurate approach using heuristic optimization for determining battery model parameters was introduced. The simulation studies utilized three different optimization algorithms for comparison purposes, i.e. 1) Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), 2) Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), and 3) Genetic Algorithm (GA). The performance of BES model discharge accuracy with respect to the test data from three different algorithms was compared and the results showed that the GA approach gives the best results in terms of accuracy and execution time. Finally, the validated results of GA-optimized battery model showed the accuracy of 98% compared to the conventional approach.

Abstract

The output characteristics of the photovoltaic (PV) installation normally depend on solar radiation and ambient temperature, the charge impedance, its maximum power point (MPP) is not constant. In each state of the PV module has a point where it can produce its MPP. Therefore, MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) methods can be used to keep the photovoltaic panel running on its MPP. In this article, the objective was to determine how the different maximum point power monitoring (MPPT) techniques applied to PV systems work. Therefore, two MPPT algorithms are presented and compared under different temperature and radiation conditions: MRAC methods and sliding mode controller combined with the Incremental Conductivity (IC) algorithm. These algorithms are widely used in PV systems because of their easy implementation and low cost. These techniques were analyzed and their performance evaluated using the PSIM software under different types of solar radiation and temperature.

Abstract

Frequency response analysis (FRA) method has been proven to detect the transformer winding damage. However, there is no practical study which investigates the damages on transformer tap changer even though it has a high failure rate. Hence, this paper investigates normal and faulty transformer tap changer using FRA. The FRA measurements conducted using four different test configurations. Also, normal tap changer, pitting and coking tap changer contact were investigated. In addition to FRA measurement, winding resistance measurement has been conducted. The transformer turn ratio measurement also conducted to identify the taps positions. This study results significant to understand the effect of pitting and coking tap changer on the transformer frequency response. The results showed that pitting has a slight influence on the frequency response. However, coking shows a huge variation in low-frequency response. This effect observed during the winding resistance measurement.

Abstract

In this paper, DTC is applied for two-level inverter fed IM drives based on neuronal hysteresis comparators and The Direct Torque Control (DTC) is known to produce quick and robust response in AC drive system. However, during steady state, torque, flux and current ripple. An improvement of electric drive system can be obtained using a DTC method based on ANNs which reduces the torque and flux ripples, the estimated the rotor speed using the KUBOTA observer method based on measurements of electrical quantities of the motor. The validity of the proposed methods is confirmed by the simulation results.The THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of stator current, torque ripple and stator flux ripple are determined and compared with conventional DTC control scheme using Matlab/Simulink environment.

Abstract

A single-stage symmetrical high voltage gain half-bridge (HB) DC-AC converter is proposed in this paper. Using two Y-source impedance networks, the following key features are utilized from the proposed topology: single stage inverter with very high voltage gain compared to conventional HB inverter, symmetrical output voltage waveform, low voltage stress across the passive components because it is distributed across two impedance networks, and only two switching devices are needed for the converter. Furthermore, important merit of the proposed topology is that the current drawn by the Y-coupled inductors is symmetrical around the X-axis which helps to prevent the Y-network cores from reaching the saturation state. And the last compelling feature is a virtual neutral point for the load connection is inherited in the proposed double Y-source impedance networks converter with no need for DC-Link capacitors. For low voltage sources such as photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell, the converter is designed to achieve continuous input current operation. The operation modes and principles of the inverter are analyzed and discussed deeply in this paper. A detailed mathematical equations system is derived and verified for the presented converter. Finally, PSpice simulation tools are used to simulate the converter and verify the derived mathematical formulas.

Abstract

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are one of the most widely used motors for various industrial applications due to their high efficiency, high torque to weight ratio and elimination of mechanical commutator. These motors operate in wide range of speeds and necessitate precise speed control techniques, for their nonlinear model, insenseitive to parameter variations and external disturbances, when used in various sensitive applications. Conventional PI and other existing controllers produce high overshoot and increased rise time and settling time. The performance of BLDC motor is enhanced using a Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller (FSMC) whose gain is intelligently varied with the help of a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS). For this purpose, a suitable FSMC is designed, simulated and implemented using FPGA. The simulation results are validated using Hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation as well as actual hardware implementation. Great improvement in the transient performance is achieved when compared to chatter free SMC, Fuzzy PI and conventional PI controller.

Abstract

This project aims to develop dual axis solar tracker with IOT monitoring system using Arduino. Generally, solar energy is the technology to get useful energy from sunlight. Solar energy has been used in many traditional technologies over the centuries and has been widely used in the absence of other energy supplies. Its usefulness is widespread when awareness of the cost of the environment and the supply is limited by other energy sources such as fuel. The solar tracking system is the most effective technology to improve the efficiency of solar panels by tracking and following the sun's movement. With the help of this system, solar panels can improve the way of sunlight detection so that more electricity can be collected as solar panels can maintain a sunny position. Thus the project discusses the development of two-axis solar-tracking developers using Arduino Uno as main controller the system. For develops this project, four light-dependent resistors (LDRs) have been used for sunlight detection and a maximum light intensity. Two servo motors have been used to rotate the solar panel according to the sun's light source detected by the LDR. Next a WIFI ESP8266 device is used as an intermediary between device and IOT monitoring system. The IOT monitoring system is a website that functions to store data. The efficiency of this system has been tested and compared with a single axial solar tracker. As a result, the two-axis solar tracking system generates more power, voltage and current.
