Abstract

Electric Springs has been testified recently to enhance voltage regulation in distribution systems using demand side management. In this paper, a 7-level Multilevel Inverter (MLI) with a resonant switched capacitor Converter based on sinusoidal PWM, is implemented to analyze the performance of an electric spring under voltage variations at PCC. By the proposed MLI based ES, voltage regulation of critical load voltage is studied for voltage sag and swell conditions. Remarkable features of the proposed topology are maintaining voltage balance in input capacitors and reduction of power components. Simulations have been done in MATLAB/Simulink on distribution system with DGs equipped with MLI based ES under line voltage anomalies. Tested results are analyzed with THD% in critical load voltage.

Abstract

In the last decades, researchers and scientists have been trending towards photovoltaic (PV) solar energy research as one of the noteworthy renewable energies. As a matter of fact, the need for a laboratory system devoted to performing measurements and experimentation on PV systems is being increased. The PV array emulator is designed to accomplish this task by reproducing accurately the electrical behavior of real PV sources. The present paper proposes thus a new control and design of PV array emulators. It is based essentially on a hybrid Damping Injection controller. The proposed control strategy circumvents obviously the existing PV emulator's limitations in terms of accuracy, speed and partial shading emulation. Several results are given and discussed to show the efficiency of the proposed system to emulate PV modules and different PV array configurations under uniform solar irradiance and partial shading conditions.

Abstract

Conventional methodology for electrical power generation is vulnerable due to environmental limitations and the availability of fuel. Distributed generation, offering virtuous benefits to the market partakers, is trending in electrical power system in modern era. This paper presents the distributed generation integration to grid with active power injection control. Distributed generation source delivers DC power which is processed through square wave inverter. Inverter circuit is controlled using a simple control technique to match grid code. Fixing the current reference and varying the same, analysis is carried out for grid integration scheme of distributed generation injecting active power to grid. Simulation work is carried out and results are shown using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

Abstract

Power output from a small solar panel can be affected by its power consumption when it consumes power from the solar panel. There has been a lack of proper research and experiment in the use of small solar panel with tracking systems. Its significance was detailed in this paper where the voltage output are compared with those which were externally powered. The solar trackers and a microcontroller have been designed and fabricated for this research. Due to the use of the tracking system (single axis and dual axis), the power consumption varies from one to another and its effect on the voltage output. Several experiments have been conducted and it was concluded that small solar panels are not efficient enough to utilize with tracking capabilities due to an increase in power consumption. The externally powered system was found to generate 18% more output compared to a selfsustaining system and that the increase in average power consumptions compared to a fixed panel were 31.7% and 82.5% for single-axis and dualaxis tracker respectively. A concrete evidence was made that utilizing solar tracking capabilities for low power rated solar panel is unfeasible.

Abstract

Photovoltaic (PV) is a source of electrical energy derived from solar energy and has a poor level of efficiency. This efficiency is influenced by PV condition, weather, and equipments like Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT). MPPT control is widely used to improve PV efficiency because MPPT can produce optimal power in various weather conditions. In this paper, MPPT control is performed using the Fuzzy Logic-Particle Swarm Optimization (FL-PSO) method. This FL-PSO is used to get the Maximum Power Point (MPP) and minimize the output power oscillation from PV. From the simulation results using FL-PSO, the values of voltage, and output power from the boost converter are 183.6 V, and 637.7 W, respectively. The ripple of output power from PV with FL-PSO is 69.5 W. Then, the time required by FL-PSO reaches MPP is 0.354 s. Compared with MPPT control based on the PSO method, the MPPT technique using FL-PSO indicates better performance and faster than the PSO.

Abstract

Nowadays, the white-light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have a vast application on the real-life based on its superior advantages such as energy efficiency, long lifetime, compactness, and environment-friendly and designable features in comparison with incandescent and fluorescent lamps. In this paper, we co-doping the Ca[Mg3SiN4]Ce3+ Phosphor on the phosphor compound of the 7000K In-cup Packaging White LEDs (IPW-LEDs) for improving the lighting properties. By varying the concentration of Ca[Mg3SiN4]Ce3+ Phosphor from 0% to 1.8%, the effect of the Ca[Mg3SiN4]Ce3+ Phosphor on the D-CCT, CRI, CQS, and LO of the 7000K IPW-LEDs are investigated. Using the Light Tool and software, the research results show that the concentration of the IPW-LEDs has a massive influence on the lighting properties of the 7000K IPW-LEDs. All the results are convinced by Light Tool simulation.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to design a three-phase distance relay using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system algorithm (ANFIS). The proposed relay is used to protect the power transmission lines where they are subjected to faults continuously. These faults may produce a high electric current which leads to high damage in power system equipment. The relay is used to detect the transmission line faults by measuring the voltage and current values for each phase. The line impedance is then calculated to detect the faults and issue instantaneous trip signal to circuit breaker, to separate the fault zone of the transmission line without affecting the work of other relays. To isolate the faulty line without affecting the other lines within the network the relays were trained using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The obtained results through this work show that the designated distance relay with (ANFIS) algorithm has the ability to detect the faults occurrence, recognize it from the cases of the disturbance and to isolate only the fault zone without affecting the work of other relays in system.

Abstract

This paper presents Performance Enhancement of Solar Powered Floating Photovoltaic System using Arduino Approach. In the project, an Arduino nano as a main controller of the system. The objective of this project to monitor performance of the voltage, current and power output respectively. Furthermore, the prototype of the research is testing in two conditions: on water surface and on a land area. Based on the results, the power of the photovoltaic on the water surface is increased compared on the land area. The conclusion for this project is it can generate electricity using floating photovoltaic and the same time to monitor output of the system.

Abstract

Solar drying is an emerging technology to preserve wide range of products from agriculture to animal-based products. The application of solar dryers, however must be evaluated to determine its benefit and effectiveness. In the evaluation of solar dryer performance, three criteria which are most important to look at are thermal performance, economic cost and environmental implications. Therefore, this paper attempts to review the thermoeconomic analysis and environmental evaluation on various solar drying system. Performance equations in energy–economic–environment analyses for solar drying syistems evaluation are presented. The CO2 emission, carbon mitigation, and earned carbon credit of various solar drying syistem are also presented.

Abstract

In this study, different precise and appropriate control mechanisms for speed and steering control of a robot with mobile movement that use a Direct Current motor, have been simulated for improved controllers? response. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID), Lead-Lag compensator, and Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) are designed as well as simulated to provide command over the angular speed of a Direct Current motor mounted in the robot. The response of the Direct Current motor for every controller is observed and compared among each other for a sinusoidal and a step input which indicate speed as well as position respectively of mobile robot. The performance analysis indicates that the Lead-Lag compensator and PID controller can be considered effective for the task assigned for steering the wheel and Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is efficient for wheel speed controlling. Considering the overall improved performance of the mobile robot in terms of precision of speed control as well as steering capability, it seems reasonable to conclude that the proposed design criteria were effective and satisfactory.
