Abstract

This work proposes an adaptive filter based on a new least mean sixth control approach with incremental conductance method of MPP for 3-phase grid-incorporated photovoltaic (PV) system. The proposed system comprises a PV array, 3-phase DC to AC converter, maximum power point tracker (MPPT), three-phase electronic load, and a 3-phase grid. The combination of solar PV array and the voltage source converter (VSC) supplies power to the grid. The 3-phase inverter as a distribution static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) improves the quality of the system performance in case of zero solar irradiation. D-STATCOM also reduces total harmonic distortion (THD) in grid currents, improves power factor, and maintainsa constant voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). The system modelling and simulation is achieved on MATLAB/Simulink. The proposed system performance has been found satisfactory and conform to IEEE-519 standards.

Abstract

This paper confers on investigation of a direct torque control (DTC) of induction motor drive by 3 level neutral point clamp (NPC) multilevel inverter. The imbalance problem may deteriorate the electric drive performances which might cause a short circuit condition. Various balancing control strategies were proposed, however, most of them employed complex space vector modulation (SVM) and hysteresis-based controller that generates variable switching frequencies. The proposed method will offer a reliable balancing control strategy with a constant switching frequency, and moreover, it will provide excellent electric drive performances. This research proposed a new multi carrier switching modulation strategy that establish a high-band-width control for neutral point potential in the NPC inverter. Potency of the proposed high-bandwidth potential balancing strategy is validated through the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.

Abstract

In this paper, a new steady-state model of a three-phase asynchronous motor is proposed to be used in the studies of electrical power systems. The model allows for obtaining the response of the demand for active and reactive power as a function of voltage and frequency. The contribution of the model is the integration of the characteristics of the mechanical load that can drive motors, either constant or variable load. The model was evaluated on a 2500 kW and 6000 V motor, for the two types of mechanical load, in a wide range of voltage and frequency, as well as four load factors. As a result of the evaluation, it was possible to verify that, for the nominal frequency and voltage variation, the type of load does not influence the behavior of the powers and that the reactive power is very sensitive to the voltage variation. In the nominal voltage and frequency deviation scenario, it was found that the type of load influences the behavior of the active and reactive power, especially in the variable load. The results demonstrate the importance of considering the model proposed in the simulation software of electrical power systems.

Abstract

Non-linear loads or load imbalances, etc., are the typical causes of asymmetric operation of three-phase systems. The appearance of inverse (positive) and homopolar (zero) symmetric components cause damage to the systems and electrical equipment and increase the power losses on the transmission lines. Reactive power compensation is one of the solutions that can overcome this asymmetry. The difficulty that exists in many different methods is the optimal calculation of the value of the compensator. In this paper, a new method to overcome these problems is proposed and investigagted. The proposed method is based on the fundamental electrical quantities (voltages and currents) on the controllable values of the static compensation devices and overcoming of the asymmetric operation regime in the three-phase systems.

Abstract

Increasing penetration of electric vehicle (EV) load into the electricity sector will result in generation imbalance, an increase in real power loss, a low voltage profile and consequently a decrease in the margin of stability of voltage. It is necessary for the coordination of charging stations (CSs) for EV at the relevant locations to minimize the effect of increased EV load penetration in radial systems. In this paper, a new optimization method named Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA) is proposed; it determined the optimal location and size for EV-CS for reducing power losses and improved voltage profile. In this work we used the photovoltaic (PV) renewable source as a main feeder for the CSs. Many of Artificial Intelligence technique are applied to determine the optimal sizing and sitting of EV-CSs considering the objective of minimization of real power loss. IEEE 33-bus testing network conducts simulation tests. The results highlighted the need to refine the EV-CS allocation to improve the performance. The ability to solve complex, non-linear objective optimization issues using AOA and to compare the results with other algorithms, namely particle swarm optimization (PSO), cuckoo search algorithm (CSA), shows its effectiveness in minimizing the power loss as required.

Abstract

Wind power is one of the most promising renewable energy sources. Due to a constantly increasing penetration rate in power grids in order to comply with interconnection requirements. This article targets the impact of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) which is the subject of most attention due to low cost and maintenance requirements, driven by a wind turbine with the necessary power electronic converters that allow wind turbines to operate at variable speed, and connected to the grid for power generation more efficiently by the phase-locked loop (PLL) method in order to synchronize it. Thus, the proposed control technicals are based on vector control (VC) to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT), keep the DC link voltage constant, and control the speed and current at the generator side and grid side in PMSG which provides controllability of the reactive power supplied to the network. Therefore, the response of the PLL is analyzed and the simulation results of the dynamic model of the system is developed in Matlab / Simulink. The study results exhibit the excellent performance with high robustness, by improving the system efficiency to 98.72%.

Abstract

Electricity is the most important consideration for individual needs. Natural crossover power architecture using photovoltaic and wind is presented in this study, together with a Cuk direct current-direct current (DC-DC) converter, third phase inverter, and an inductors capacitors (LC) filter. Due to its natural disposal and availability in India, wind power and photovoltaics are ideal for the hybrid system. Hybrid power structures, on the other hand, reduce the risk of damage to equipment in sustainable stock storage since they have a higher electrical output. MATLAB Simulink was used to demonstrate this hybrid application. Before connecting the entire DC voltage frame with the main lattice of the power frame, blocks such as the wind model, PV model, Cuk converter, inverter, and LC channel are built individually. Information limitations for participating in varying levels of irradiance and variations in wind speed. The results show that the hybrid system has a considerably more reliable standard in terms of energy efficiency than an independent framework. Furthermore, the hybrid system's Cuk DC-DC converter, three-phase standard-based inverter, and LC channel can minimise power switching power.

Abstract

The induction motor is complex because its dynamic is nonlinear, multivariable and highly coupled. In addition, the induction motor (IM) controller design can be degraded due to wide ranges operating speed specially in low and near-zero speeds and also to variation of interval parameters such as the stator resistance change because of stator heating during operation. Our contribution is the use of a nonlinear sliding mode control using a fuzzy mutual reference adaptive system observer based on two fuzzy adaptation mechanisms to estimate both rotor speed and stator resistance. The proposed work was verified and compared by simulation and tested in various ranges of speed with motor and regenerating regions of operation. The results show that the proposed approach has proved good effectiveness in tracking and observation.

Abstract

Renewable hybrids play an essential part in assisting India with quickening the decarbonisation of power production and lowering power production expense in the medium term. PV and wind energy are complementary to each other, making the system to generate electricity almost throughout the year. In this paper, a grid-associated PV-wind energy system tied with a battery is analysed. PV, wind, grid and battery are the sources to be effectively scheduled for uninterrupted power and cost minimisation. Energy management controllers use optimisation strategies for effective utilisation of sources and cost minimisation. The methodologies are detailed as optimisation problems. Limiting the household energy cost is considered as objective, and the delivery ratio of power offered to the grid and utilised locally is treated as the optimisation variable. In this paper, an improved genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the formulated nonlinear optimisation problems. The time-of-use tariff is becoming popular in India; therefore, this article analyses the improved genetic algorithm based intelligent power and cost management system under time-of-use tariff. Using MATLAB, the proposed approach's performance is presented with the comparative analysis of conventional self-made for self-consumed and rest for sale mode and genetic algorithm-based energy management controller.
