Abstract

Reading is very important and essential for students, as their learning success is highly dependent on their reading comprehension. The phenomenon that is seen today is that many students are very poor at understanding a text or do not know the meaning of words in English, this due to the lack of vocabulary they have. This study aims to see the effect of pre-teaching vocabulary in teaching reading skill to improve students reading comprehension. This study used quasi-experimental research. The tests are used to collect the data (pre-test and post-test). The research consists of two class, experimental and control class. The data shows that the experimental class has increased in value after using the pre-teaching technique. It means that the use of pre-teaching vocabulary in improving students’ reading comprehension is effective. In contrast to the control class, they had difficulty understanding a text when reading due to a lack of vocabulary and not being distracted during the learning process.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the most important components in the teaching and learning process. Without learning media, the teaching and learning process tends to be stiff and boring. The need for creative, interactive and innovative learning media is very important because the characteristics of today's students are very much different compared to previous generations. Generation Z, which is currently studying in tertiary institutions, is a generation that was born and grew up with digital technology. Conventional methods and media are no longer suitable for this generation. Therefore, teachers need to implement digital technology-based learning. This research aims to develop learning media based on Virtual Reality in the Introduction to Psycholinguistics course. The research method used is the Research and Development (RnD) research method with the ADDIE approach (Analysis, Designing, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The results show that Virtual Reality-based learning media is valid and practical to be used in Introduction to Psycholinguistics Class. Despite of the validity and practicality, some minor revisions still ne needed.

These perspectives reflect how language can be integrated thoroughly into certain subjects with more time compared to the length of time in traditional classrooms. This essay aims to outline the potential of the CLIL method in helping Non Native English Speaking (NNES) students studying in Anglosphere countries to optimize their English competence.
