Abstract

Title: Mathematics in Architecture: The Concept of Numbers in Roof Structure Construction of Fort None Lopo Fort None is a traditional fortress in which there are traditional buildings of the Dawan people, namely Lopo and Ume Kbubu. One of the Lopo in this area was once burned and has not been rebuilt. This is one of the reasons this study was conducted, to find out the mathematical elements in Lopo construction which can be useful as a design guidelines for other Lopo building construction. This study aims to analyze in depth the concept of configuration of real numbers on the Lopo roof construction in Benteng None, so the method used is qualitative research with ethnographic design. This discussion is carried out by analyzing three construction elements on the Lopo roof, namely: 5 inner circles, 26 outer circles and rectangles on the Lopo roof. So, it can be concluded that some construction elements on the Lopo roof which are mathematically analyzed show the existence of the concept of real number configuration. From this discussion, the results show that there are types of real number configuration, including: Monotonic real numbers descending, finite real numbers, fixed real numbers with fixed differences and real numbers with non-fixed differences.

Abstract

Title: Inclusive Design and Service Accessibility Improvement for Various Users in Petra Christian University Library In the context of Indonesia, Act No. 8 of 2016 actually recognizes the rights of the disabled. Unfortunately, the UNCRPD implementation seems not quite effective. Many educational facilities are not accessible for the disabled or the People with Disabilities. The learning environment has an indirect impact on student achievement, creating a positive attitude, higher motivation for learning and no doubt better performance. The accessibility aspect of learning places is crucial for educational facilities such as university Library. Petra Christian University (UKP) is located in the heart of Wonocolo District, Surabaya, East Java-Indonesia. With the motto "Learning zone that cares ". Library@Petra wants to be a learning center that caters to academics, and practitioners. Library@Petra is the largest and most complete academic library in East Java. On the other hand, many users find accessibility barriers to Library@Petra-owned facilities built in the 1980 's. Accessibility issues for all users are generated from Focus Group discussion (FGD) discussions, involving people with disabilities, elderly, pregnant women following children in accordance with User – Centered Principle. The Library@Petra redesign was submitted based on the principles of inclusive design submitted by Tanuwidjaja (2015). An Equitable Use but Reasonable Principle will be met through providing a help corner for users with special needs, accessible pathways and space to spin, as well as accessible meeting and toilet areas. Simple and Intuitive Use Principle will be filled with braille/visual and directional guides for the blind and other. The principle of requiring Low Physical Effort applied to accessible toilets and assistance to retrieve books in specific areas that are hard to reach, computers for users with special needs (blind users) are provided for reading, to access e-books and catalogs. Prohibition of Usage Error is recommended with the installation of a fence as high as 150 cm around the elevator aisle and anti-slippery floor. These recommendations were found difficult to be addressed because of the limited university's budget and the use of active Library@Petra throughout the year. Therefore, it is proposed a Special Assistance Corner for special users including disability as a first step. This corner is equipped with a dedicated User Service desk, a waiting couch and three computer stations for visual disabilities to read ebook and catalogue sites. Recommendation of this case is the higher nvolvement of People with Disabilites in inclusive design.

Abstract

Title: Architecture and Water (Palembang Case) The total area of Indonesia consists of a total land area of 1,904,569 km2 and a sea area of 7.900.000 km2. Indonesia's geographical location has two rainy and dry seasons, tropical climate and high humidity and sunshine throughout the year. This condition is also reinforced by the location of Indonesia located on two continents, Asia and Australia. Thus Indonesia is not only about land but also waters. This general description becomes the basic of understanding the case study of Palembang city. The case of Palembang was appointed to see the consequences of 'water' in the course of city development and the traces of its architectural artifacts. Then how the latest development of Palembang city, is still oriented to the water or have forgotten the water as the face of the city? The purpose of this discussion is to show the development of the city, especially Palembang, related to its natural geographical conditions. Explore this descriptive paper using a historical study approach with chronic descriptive methods. Chronic descriptive method is a method of translation as it is with a note on events that are considered important in a particular location. Descriptive descriptive results show that the city of Palembang has left the water, the icon of the Musi River is placed as a 'separator / distinguishing / distance maker' rather than 'union' between Ilir and Ulu. Geographical natural conditions are not placed as a basis in the implementation and development of Palembang City.

Abstract

Title: The Religious Architecture of Tiwah Feast among Dayak Ngaju as Cultural Tourism Attractions in Central Kalimantan The belief to a transcendent space among Dayak Ngaju people, especially for Kaharingan believers in Central Kalimantan, leads to the Tiwah Feast, a secondary funeral ceremony to transmit the soul of the dead to a celestial realm called The Lewu Tatau. The Tiwah Feast manifests in many meaningfulness of sacred symbols. There are certain rules in the implementation, particularly on the physical symbols and its religious architectures. This article emphasize the uniqueness of the symbols on the religious architecture of Tiwah Feast, which has the potential to become tourist attraction in the development of cultural tourism products. Using qualitative methods, data obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, in two different locations, in Tumbang Koling and Ramang Village. Sacred symbols on its religious architecture include Sapundu and Sandong. A sapundu manifests in the form of a human or animal figure, regarding to the personification of the ancestral spirit. It shows the way for the soul towards Lewu Tatau. Meanwhile, Sandong is a secondary burial coffin to put the ancestral bones. The construction and architecture should concern on foundation, size, height, carvings, and ornaments. This local wisdom is potential to be developed as a cultural tourism attraction. However, the sacredness of the Tiwah Feast must be maintained and preserved from cultural commercialization and commodification issues.

Abstract

Title: Developing Mindful Eyes of the Architecture Students Change is bound to happen in nature, be it revolutionary or evolutionary. The fundamental changes that occur throughtout all aspects would consequently have an impact on life in its entirety, and architecture education is no exception. Hence, architecture education should also continue to refine itself to anticipate the substantial issues it encounters. This first year studio is one of the concepts of change in architecture education, namely by attempting to find a different foundation wherein the emphasis of education is not in the accumulation of information but in fostering individuals to acquire sensitivity and skills for contemplating through a perspective of mutual togetherness. Mindful eyes is actually the consciousness to see, to learn through one?s eyes with awareness, which is implemented in this first year studio with the objective of learning to recognize the tools that will be used in the subsequent studios in the following years to come. This paper is the response of architecture education in confronting changes and it is currently implemented on first year architecture students. Several samples of first year student tasks are presented in a very simple manner, it is, however, aimed at preparing future architects with several essential skills.

Abstract

Title: The Meaning of CaniagoStyle of Minangkabau Architecture in West Sumatra Province Minangkabau Traditional Architecture has its own characteristics, both in architectural and philosophical. The shape of the building has a close relationship with the socio-cultural setting of the community. The characteristics of a building can be reviewed through rationalistic qualitative methods based on topology, morphology and typology theories. Traditional architectural elements can be characteristic of an area. So, each of the works created really have a strong and unique foundation, both in terms of structure, facade shape, spatial layout and also the use of its ornaments. The specific form is able to display forms that are in harmony with their environment so that they are able to remind people or the community of that environment. This form makes the Minangkabau architecture easy to remember and known everywhere because whatever is created has a strong foundation and is truly specific.

Abstract

Title: Design of Rinsing Clothes Tools with Inclusive Design Approach to Reduce Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Risk Based on case studies at Panti Wreda Perandan Padudan, Gondokusuman, Yogyakarta, the fact that the clothes that are washed by the elderly is not completely clean. One clean indicator of the laundry is seen from the absence of detergent foam that makes the water become cloudy when rinsing clothes. Manual rinsing process requires the work of both hands that seek friction and pressure (i.e. to rubben) so that the soap water contained in the fabric can come out. The movement of the evaporating on rinsing has a tendency to inflict numbness even pain (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome) if done at high intensity. The condition can deteriorate in long-lasting routines in the elderly. In the process of cassing, the elderly have limited hand grips in conducting activities that are made repeatedly. With this problem, it is necessary to design the tools to rinse the clothes so as to minimize the foam attached to the clothes until the result of a cleaner laundry and can reduce the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. The design of this product utilizes a two-stage inclusion approach, which is research and design designing. The research phase uses ergonomics- based methods with observation and interview techniques. The design process that was used after obtaining the designs statement was SCAMPER. Through this method, the tool is produced to rinse the laundry cleaner without experiencing the pain in the hands.

Abstract

Title: The Effect of Capital and Land Availability on The Spatial Transformation Process at Kampung Karangasem, Sleman Kampung Karangasem as one of Kampung located in pheriphery of Yogyakarta has very rapid spatial development since the establishment of UGM and UNY. People’s initiatives to seize this opportunity, make spatial change from housing into home based enterprises. This study aims to determine the effect of capital and land availability on the spatial transformation process of HBE at Kampung Karangasem. Method used in this study is deductive-qualitative. Data collective by “participant as observer” and mapping. The result of this study indicate that the availability of capital and land has an influence of strategy in the process of transformation from house into a home-based enterprises. Limited capital ownership influences the transformation process of horizontal sharing of space, horizontal shifting of space, horizontal extending of space and vertical extending of space. If homeowner have enough capital, it will make transformation vertical extending of space. The influence of the availability of land is the house that still have enough land with sufficient area will choose to use the horizontal extending of space strategy, while the vertical extending of space strategy is chosen if there is no available vacant land.

Abstract

Title: The Study of Kampung’s Strenght as the Basis for Cultural Center Design at Kampung Pandeyan Yogyakarta is a province with various privileges. Yogyakarta has a lot of history both physical history and non-physical history. Many people know Yogyakarta as a cultural city and student city. Cultural diversity in Yogyakarta is one of the tourist attractions. Travelers not only visit tourist attractions and historical heritage buildings but also are interested in following a cultural atmosphere that is not found elsewhere and is different from the daily lives of tourists. The increasing interest of tourists in knowing the culture in the village is not matched by accommodating facilities. There is still a lack of space for people and artists to appreciating art and culture while educating citizens of the community, so there needs to be a cultural center that serves to appreciate works of art and culture. Pandeyan village has now developed into a village that has begun to be known for its diversity of artistic and cultural potential. An overview of the diverse potential of the village is the basis of design. This scientific paper will discuss the various potentials of the village which are used as the basis for planning a cultural center in Pandeyan Village. The village's cultural center itself is a discourse that wants to be reviewed as a specific function that differs from the center of culture in general. The problem that will be described is how is the design of the Pandeyan village cultural center based on the potential of the village? The design results of this design are designing the cultural center of Pandeyan Village as a facility for the surrounding community in preserving existing art and cultural attractions. The concept is expected to be applied to the form and order of mass composition, the relationship of spaces (both inner and outer space), and the application of ornaments to the elements of inner and outer space.
